biaxin xl for strep throat

I went to the clinic and the doctor thinks it is a type of strep throat. They gave me Biaxin XL and i started it today. I did not tell her about my situation from 3 weeks ago. With those symptoms, does this have any possible relation to HIV?

He gave me a prescription for biaxin, 2x a day for ten days. After doing some digging, I learned about oral gonorrhea. Could this possibly be what I have? And if so can it be cured by biaxin (antibiotic)?

i was prescribed more antibiotics by a french doctor when i still had the sore throat (he was not familiar with the biaxin xl) and an antifungal triflucan for the tongue, which he attributed to the antiobiotics. The coating is not really going away though, and while I did not take the full course of the new antibiotics, I have been taking the antifungal. My doc perscribed Biaxin xl 2x 500 and prednisone 50mg 4 days if needed. Last night I was so bad I took the pred at 8pm. This morning I took the biaxin at 6am. It's been about 8 hours and my heart has sped up from about 70 to 85-90 for about an hour and won't come down. I'm afraid to take my next dose of prednisone but I've been on short bursts before with no issue. Is a resting heart rate around 90 something to be worried about?

Thank you for the response. I have had a swab for strep throat and it was negative. I've also been through an Rx of Biaxin 500mg b.i.d. and its had no effect. I had a tonsillectomy when I was just a child. Today the pain is directly below the larynx. I have an appointment with the ear/nose/throat doctor but not until April. Is this symptomatic of the fact that he feels there's little to worry about?

The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!! Is it possible that he did an HIV test without my knowledge and is now trying to treat me for it????

My neck and head started throbbing about a week ago and I went into the doctor to see if I had strep for the third time in three monthes. Both came back negative so the doctor diagnosed me as having Bacterial Pharyngitus and gave me Biaxin for it. But I keep reading on the internet that bacterial pharyngitus is a symptom of acute hiv infection, if strep and mono are ruled out!!!! I'm freaking out here.

allmy dr told me was that certin quinolones do give false positives. my med was biaxin xl 500mg. but that was all he would tell me. he seemed to be really busy. now i need to find out if that is one of the 13 quinolones. if you can assist me further please do so. or advize me where to search. thanks .

Hey Flycaster, thanks for the input! I am taking the medicine as prescribed. I take the Prevacid and hour before I eat and the biotics right before I eat. I have drastically reduced spicy food and have one coffee in the morning. However pre-meds I never had acid reflux this bad, I mean last night I woke up in incredible pain and felt like there had been something in my throat all day and worse at night. I can't even lie down for 5mins without having it pour out of me.

I also took biaxin for a throat problem a week ago. Doc gave me 500mg pills twice a day for 5 days. and I took them for 3 days then stopped for 2 day then finished the last 2 days after cause I found out that I have to do all of them. Would this have cured anyt sti? Sorry for long question doc just want everything answered at once.

I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill. My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections???? Thank you.

t respond to the drugs that they usually give you for strep throat. So it is possible that you could have it. That is my professional opinion as a clinical microbiologist The only other thing is are your lymph nodes swollen? Could these be what you feel when you swallow? You may have had the original strep throat and then your lymph nodes swelled and that is hat you feel? That with some residual pain from the sore throat? I don't know how bad your throat feels.

t comprehend any doctor treating you for strep throat if they have not tested you for it. If the diagnoses has been confirmed and you are not responding to the antibiotics you mights need something stronger. You should call your doctor's office and let them know how you are feeling. They would be able to call something else in for you or might want to do other tests to confirm what may be the problem. There are very resistant strains of Strep out there.

i went to the dr on june 25 and she treated me for strep throat and a sinus infection. she put me on augmentin.. i took the whole ten days and a couple days after i finished my meds my throat started to hurt again so a week later i went back in and still tested positive for strep throat. she gave me zpack to take. a couple days after i finished the zpack, my sore throat came back.. it feels itchy once in awhile and it also feels wierd when i swallow.
