Carbs to ketosis

Common Questions and Answers about Carbs to ketosis

Avatar n tn You need to learn to read nutritional information that is provided on the labels of the foods you eat. What matters most is how many grams of carbohydrates are in a portion. And you need to learn what a portion is so that it correlates! Most people in this country consume way too much food and think a bowl full of cereal is normal. It is not! Read the label and most cereals will tell you that a serving consists of 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup.
Avatar f tn You can increase your walking to one hour. Also walk like you mean it, do not stroll. Most important is to control and manage your diabetes. Then limit your carbohydrate food intake for weight loss. Use Google to search and understand the difference between 'simple carbs and complex carbs'. Go to the Atkins web site for low carb information and recipes. Click on programs to get started. http://atkins.com/Homepage.
Avatar n tn Dietary Ketosis has nothing to do with BG until your liver runs out of stored glucagon it can continue to raise BG (ie 8 - 10 hour high when fasting) how low are you going on the carbs? you can be in Ketosis with high BG. Ketosis means your body is using ketones for fuel instead of glucose. Diabetesforum(dot)com has many people doing diatery Ketosis.
Avatar f tn So I tend to sleep till mid afternoon. And wake up and get my kids and sometimes back at it again. I eat something when I wake up (its little) and then I eat late after work. I find I am not eating as much as I thought I should be seeing as I am 19 weeks pregnate .. is there something wrong with me ? Am I not giving my baby enough nutrition ? Worried I am harming baby by not eating as much or more then I usually do...
Avatar f tn Hi all, I started Atkins in early January '09. I have done Atkins before back in 2004/05 and lost 60lbs and got down to 160lbs which was pretty good for my height about 5'6". It took me about 7 months to get to my target weight. I was extremely happy and felt great. Got married in 2006 and well...kinda gained it all back and then some...so it goes huh. I hate I did that but I truly love food and before I knew it...all the weight was back on again.
Avatar n tn If you are overweight I would recommend that you cut out all junk food, soft drinks and fruit juices. Limit carbs such as bread, potato, rice, pasta, cookies to small portions only. Do not eat too much fruit. Probably a reasonable amount of fruit would be 2 - 3 pieeces a day. Eat regular fat foods: cheese, yoghurt, etc. But make sure they are not sweetened. Read labels on foods and avoid any food that contains high fructose corn syrup.
Avatar f tn You will also get weak from carb depletion (this passes in about 6 days) Once you reach Ketosis your body will start using fat for fuel rather than carbs (remember were not eating carbs anymore) so the liver must make Ketones to release fat for fuel. The body wants it's fuel so deny it carbs and it will feed off of fat when it has to. You need to understand that our bodies hate us. They actually want us to stay fat.
Avatar m tn ve read it is critically important to stay in ketosis. And eating too many carbs even for a single day can kick you out of ketosis and thus you will not lose weight like you would think. It takes several days or more to get back into ketosis after even one day of too many carbs. So eating too many carbs once a week could keep you almost totally out of ketosis. Gimel is right. It is worth getting tested for low thyroid.
1436324 tn?1283698760 personally, I do agree but I also suggest my clients to cycle the carbs once weekly so that there are no chances of diet-induces keto-acidosis that could possibly occur to those following atkin's diet too stringently over a longer period of time.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
764257 tn?1234724152 I agree with the above. Talk to your doctor about whether you should try Atkins or not. I was on Atkins for approximately 5 months (something happened and I completely stopped eating, but it isn't related to the diet). The results were fantastic. By the end of the second week I (a carb lover) didn't want to eat carbs although I was still eating fruits and veggies. I lost weight and I felt good.
649848 tn?1534633700 When my parents went on the Atkins diet back in the 90s, they had to read books on how to even get in to ketosis, how to measure whether they were in it, and even then it was not an easy thing to do. They are smart, educated people and even with the best tools in front of them, it was not easy, nor was it sustainable.
Avatar n tn I have recently started to feed my (16 year-old) cat a high protein diet (Orijen), devoid of all carbs, hoping to stay away from diabetes that way. Now the vet tells me that's a bad idea because a high protein level in food (anything over 40%) leads to the production of urea and actually harms the cat's kidneys. I am very confused. My cat is healthy, but which is the right food composition to keep it that way?
Avatar m tn Hi My little boy has had repeated vomiting episodes (although not loads and loads of them), plus abdominal pain and reflux so that he got referred to a paediatrician. They found nothing wrong with him. I've noticed though that the vomiting seems to happen a day after him not eating dinner the night before, and always dramatically improves after eating some carbs. Does this sound like ketotic hypoglycaemia?
Avatar f tn At other times it is always in the best interest of the patient to consult with their primary care physician regarding adjustments/additions to existing medications. Keep in mind levels this high are dangerous to your well being. Try to eat a proper diabetic diet low in carbs and excluding sugary foods/drinks, maintain normal body weight & lipid panels, and perform 30-60 minutes of daily exercise [walking is good]. These all help in lowering blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn I was excercisin religiously and watching my carb intake.i was eating between 100 to 150gms of carbs. I was not on a ketogenic diet. After that visit i have been extremely ill. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. blood sugar dropping rapidly when after exercise. My doctor said it could be the phentermine but that the metformin xr could also be reacting to the phentermine. I stoped the metformin, felt better then my sugar started going up.
Avatar n tn The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis. Ketosis can occur with type 1 diabetes, alcoholism, starvation, and with a low carbohydrate, high fat/protein diet.
Avatar n tn you wanted to consume more fats and less protein, that action will lead to ketosis (due to excessive intake of fats) and weakened immune system (due to low intake of protein since protein is a major component of our body's defenses). on the other hand, high protein diet also has its negative side, it can result to kidney troubles and accumulation of ammonia and other substances that are harmful in our body. the real secret here is BALANCE DIET.
Avatar f tn In most cases, the nutrition protocol i use works well, but i had some fat-loss ressistant cases and i needed to use some harder start-ups in dieting (ketosis) to start burning adipose tissue off. Somewhere i found the information that even eating 1 gram of a food you are intolerant you could block fat loss totaly . Its great that you take fish oil, its a optional "supplement" (it is actionaly not a supplement) for my clients. Its one of the best investiment you can make.
515251 tn?1254443201 keep increasing carbs this way until you start to plateu your weight. this is how to mainatin your weight. keep inmind that this is not a long term diet. once you reach your goal you should eat 150 min. carbs to avoid low blood sugar. you will haave bad breath after the first week, and be tired the first week. drink lots off water, no sugar, splenda, avoid caffein this will slow your weight down.
Avatar m tn Playing for 3 hours non-stop is a little excessive and can cause excessive sweating caused by ketosis if you have a fast metabolism like me (not eating enough carbs) and that isn't a good thing. If you are healthy, there really shouldn't be a terrible smell to your sweat. The smells are toxins being released, which is good, but if you sweat regularily, keep well hydrated and eat properly, you shouldn't smell bad when you sweat at all.
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.
Avatar m tn After about 2 weeks of induction (less than 20 carbs per day) I began to slowly reintroduce foods back into my diet and the rash began to fade away. This last month I decided that I would try the whole thing again and stick with it more carefully this time. I developed the same rash again in the exact same places. Its a very itchy rash that at first looked like hives and bright red bumps, then like brown spots under my skin. It leaves ugly brown spots everywhere.
Avatar f tn There is nothing magical about Greek yoghurt -- it's just yoghurt with much of the liquid removed, making it higher in protein and thicker. But Greeks don't sit around eating this yoghurt, which is prevalent in the Mediterranean region, they mostly use it as a dipping condiment or for cooking. Dairy can also be problematic, as it is rich in calcium but very low in magnesium, so if you overdo it you will leach the magnesium out of your system.
193609 tn?1292180293 Yeah counting carbs is a hard thing to follow because there are so many items from the food groups you have to stay away from. Honestly the best choice is to watch you fat content and calorie counting. Also just keep an eye on how much sugar and sodium is in the products you consume. Just because it's healthy or low fat doesnt me it should have a ton of sugar or salt in it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar n tn I am struggling to get my sugars down. I am restricting my diet to only 6 units a days and take 250 mgs of metformin with every meal. I am not getting the results I'm looking for.
Avatar f tn How do you eat less carbs for breakfast? I can't seem to get away from bad carbs at breakfast.
