Avatar f tn You can increase your walking to one hour. Also walk like you mean it, do not stroll. Most important is to control and manage your diabetes. Then limit your carbohydrate food intake for weight loss. Use Google to search and understand the difference between 'simple carbs and complex carbs'. Go to the Atkins web site for low carb information and recipes. Click on programs to get started. http://atkins.com/Homepage.
Avatar n tn Dietary Ketosis has nothing to do with BG until your liver runs out of stored glucagon it can continue to raise BG (ie 8 - 10 hour high when fasting) how low are you going on the carbs? you can be in Ketosis with high BG. Ketosis means your body is using ketones for fuel instead of glucose. Diabetesforum(dot)com has many people doing diatery Ketosis.
Avatar f tn Your baby will be fine. Just realize that your baby is going to rob you of nutrients regardless. If you don't eat sufficient carbs then you will start suffering the consequences like more cavities, lack of calcium etc. This is what my doctor told me. I have ketosis by the way.
Avatar n tn Say you were about 16, anemic, and borderline diabetic. Would the Ketosis diet do any good in this situation? Please help and give detailed answers please, and if you know anything that would make following the diet easier, I would be much obliged in hearing it.
Avatar f tn You will also get weak from carb depletion (this passes in about 6 days) Once you reach Ketosis your body will start using fat for fuel rather than carbs (remember were not eating carbs anymore) so the liver must make Ketones to release fat for fuel. The body wants it's fuel so deny it carbs and it will feed off of fat when it has to. You need to understand that our bodies hate us. They actually want us to stay fat.
Avatar n tn Yout vet IS right, high protein diets will harm you cat's kidneys...but the thing I don't get, you cat is diabetic or you're just scared that diets with carbs will cause diabetes?? Because it's not carbs that cause diabetes, it's a really high sugar diet that causes it in animals, commercial food have just the carbs and proteins and fats that your cat need (the good ones, of course there are some brands that can damage pets).
Avatar m tn ve read it is critically important to stay in ketosis. And eating too many carbs even for a single day can kick you out of ketosis and thus you will not lose weight like you would think. It takes several days or more to get back into ketosis after even one day of too many carbs. So eating too many carbs once a week could keep you almost totally out of ketosis. Gimel is right. It is worth getting tested for low thyroid.
Avatar f tn s my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight. There are instances where medical issues make this more difficult or seemingly impossible - in which case you need to deal with those issues prior to starting a weight loss regimen. I recently learned this from my own experiences.
1436324 tn?1283698760 Dietary ketosis caused by fasting or eating very low carb is not the same thing as DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis). DKA is a state of exreme and uncontrolled ketosis and will result after a period of time of very high blood sugars. People on low carb diets produce some ketones but it is not dangerous unless you have very high blood sugars consistently. Two very different things.
764257 tn?1234724152 I agree with the above. Talk to your doctor about whether you should try Atkins or not. I was on Atkins for approximately 5 months (something happened and I completely stopped eating, but it isn't related to the diet). The results were fantastic. By the end of the second week I (a carb lover) didn't want to eat carbs although I was still eating fruits and veggies. I lost weight and I felt good.
649848 tn?1534633700 I believe there is a lot of misinformation out there about the keto diet as well, but I think the misinformation is coming from both sides. Being in ketosis isn't easy for all people, and for the vast majority looking to lose weight fast it might be difficult because it's not an easy concept to understand and the science behind it can be complicated even for people with a scientific background.
Avatar f tn t help you burn fat (unless you are starving yourself), just water loss and muscle (protien stores) and low carb diets are very unhealthy for you, puts you into a state of ketosis, which creates ketones that are very toxic to your kidney and liver. To lose fat you need to eat healthy, gain muscle (muscle is your metabolism) and do aerobic cardio and sometimes implement intense cardio, such as HIIT. You need to do more than just go on a diet.
Avatar m tn Well, that is an interesting question as the most common time for blood sugar to drop is after NOT eating for a period of time. You are saying that you feed your child and AFTER that the blood sugar drops. That certainly is unusual, I'd say. What does your doctor say about this? If the immune system attacks the pancreas, issues are seen. Has anyone talked to you about Type 1 diabetes? Are they watching your child for this? What about Fatty- acid metabolism disorder?
Avatar f tn Is solosa 2mg combined with glucophage plain 500mg enough dosage for an adult having a 400+count of sugar?
Avatar n tn I currently eat a diet comprised of 30-35% protein, 45-50% carbs, and less than 20% fats. All toll, I consumer 2,800 calories a day to maintain my current weight of 108 lbs. at 5'4" (I've always been on the thin side, I'm a competitive Irish Dancer and Distance Runner). I want to start eating more fats and less protein... because it's very difficult to eat THAT much protein on a daily basis!
Avatar f tn Towards the end of February 2017 I had ketones in my urine and was in ketosis. I was excercisin religiously and watching my carb intake.i was eating between 100 to 150gms of carbs. I was not on a ketogenic diet. After that visit i have been extremely ill. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. blood sugar dropping rapidly when after exercise. My doctor said it could be the phentermine but that the metformin xr could also be reacting to the phentermine.
Avatar f tn Yes they had some problem with kidney stones but they were for years long on ketosis (extreme hardcore ketosis) . Also there are more types of keto dieting some are healthy some not, more info you can get with lyle mcdonald ketogenic diet, there you have everything about ketosis, every research and all pros an cons about ketosis ever (its free you can download it) . I dont belive that ketosis can lead to organ failures.
515251 tn?1254443201 you could do the atkins diet, provided you aren't allergic to dairy, eggs, and don't have high cholesterol. this diet you eat mostly protein , and fats. firts week is eggs, meat, keeping carbs under 25 aday. this pts your body into "ketosis", -burning fat after that increase 5 carbs aweek, unti you are aprox 10lbs from your desired weight. keep increasing carbs this way until you start to plateu your weight. this is how to mainatin your weight.
Avatar m tn For me, it goes away within an hour or so after eating carbs. Playing for 3 hours non-stop is a little excessive and can cause excessive sweating caused by ketosis if you have a fast metabolism like me (not eating enough carbs) and that isn't a good thing. If you are healthy, there really shouldn't be a terrible smell to your sweat.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
Avatar n tn re a wrestler trying to make weight, in case you just lose water, weigh in, and then drink it all back in before your match. As for counting carbs, carbs are the most important foods, so the very fact you're counting them is off base -- you should be counting other things, mainly how quickly what you eat metabolizes into sugar.
873325 tn?1295461896 My three yr old daughter has suffered from strange morning symptoms for about 6 months now. She will be nauseous and have a tummy ache first thing in the morning for 4 or 5 days in a row.....then she will be fine for 2 or 3 weeks. Some times she will vomit. Within a few hour she is fine. No fever or really any other symptoms. She has seen a GI specialist, and her upper GI looked fine. She was perscribed an antacid, but I haven't seen an improvement.
Avatar m tn When I noticed the rash about 6 months ago I was just trying the program for the first time and neither myself or my doctor connected the two together. After about 2 weeks of induction (less than 20 carbs per day) I began to slowly reintroduce foods back into my diet and the rash began to fade away. This last month I decided that I would try the whole thing again and stick with it more carefully this time. I developed the same rash again in the exact same places.
Avatar f tn re substituting protein for simple carbs when you eat yoghurt instead of, say, white bread, and that helps with the weight loss, but if you eat yoghurt high in sugar you're just adding back in the simple carbs, which turn to fat quickly if not immediately burned off.
193609 tn?1292180293 When counting carbs for effective weight loss, 50 is about the max. This would involve eliminating all sugar and flour by-products, which is why it's such a difficult way to lose weight. But, it's worked for me.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
