1464587 tn?1307491605 It seems to me from what I've read that most LLMD's are suggesting gluten free diets. I myself have been gluten free for nearly a year (I've cheated a couple of times for a piece of cheesecake), but for the most part, I'm pretty good. An added bonus is that you tend to eat much healthier when going gluten free which of course, is a good thing. I also try to stay diary free but am not as strict with that.
Avatar f tn Rice and corn flour have no gluten. I eat Rice Chex for breakfast. I buy gluten free flour made from rice. Beware of Chinese food, which contains a lot of soy. Don't mix rice with soy sauce. Read the post, "To soy or not to soy" in this forum. I have listed gluten free sites and links to recipes.
1472128 tn?1291793828 I dont buy processed foor to much, it has losts of hidden sugar and carbs. I have switched my white flour with almond flour and sugar with granulated xylitol & stevia drops. I find that one on one they are not as sweet as suger and need to be combined to taste like it but together they work well to curb my sweets need. They do not have the bitter after taste of the sugar substitute's and work very well in baking.
Avatar f tn White carbs (white bread, flour pasta, crackers, white rice, pastries, donuts, etc) Sugar (no white or brown sugar, no sugar substitutes, no honey) No soda (no regular or diet soda) No fruit juice (unless organic, all natural and unsweetened) No energy drinks, gatorade etc.
Avatar m tn As for rice, while it has a modest impact on blood sugar, it causes a paradoxically low insulin release. This means that Asian folks are getting most of their complex carbs from a low impact carbohydrate.
Avatar n tn Soy Milk or Fat Free Milk (soy milk should be unsweetened non fat natural) Soy cheese, veggie cheese or Fat Free cheese Soy Mayonaisse Dijon Mustard Apple Cider Vinegar Fat Free Sour Cream Fat Free Cottage Cheese Fresh Fruits (limit it to the suggested daily serving, fruit has lot of natural sugar) Fresh Vegetables ( especially broccoli and asparagus are really really good for you) Wheat tortillas and organic hummus avacados (good fat!
Avatar n tn Total CARBS minus fiber CARBS equals NET CARBS. Since fiber CARBS do not affect your glucose readings NET CARBS is more accurate for keeping track of intake. How do I know how many NET CARBS are in a food? Personally, I like caloriekingdotcom for looking up foods but you can also use a paperback book of foods w/nutritional analysis or read those government analysis labels on packaged goods. Decide on your personal goal for total daily intake of NET CARBS.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed this week with allergies to barley, wheat and oatmeal. I have digestive issues when I eat these items. I have tried the Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free Flour to make corn muffins and I had slight stomach ache. I also had strong pain and gas in response to a multi-grain gluten-free pasta from DeBoles. Neither of these have any of the three ingredients.
193609 tn?1292180293 What is the recommended number of carbs to eat per day? I am using a calorie counter and I am good there, but not sure how many carbs per day will equal weight loss??? Thanks!
1900997 tn?1321659956 Hi Alderica you must leave all foods made with flour. White flour especially. You may have food made with corn / maize, as much as you like. You may have potatoes as much, as you like. So you get in your carbs and feel fine. Gluten allergy is what you have. This sets off or is triggered when you drink milk. Try it for two weeks and you will see an amazing difference.
768251 tn?1256734583 What you need is a permanent change in your diet, cutting back on the simple sugars such as white flour and sweets and such and the bad fats such as fatty cuts of beef, and increasing calorie burning. That's the only long-term method of losing weight.
Avatar f tn dairy and wheat being the first two things to avoid to see if that helps, and obviously to avoid the sugary sweets and the simple carbs such as white flour and too much fruit and try to get as many colored vegetables in the diet as is possible. Organic is somewhat more expensive, but it avoids a lot of added allergens and toxic chemicals that excite the immune system and the liver and the hormonal system.
Avatar f tn The common existing food allergens are Peanut flour, peanut butter, powdered egg white, Powdered/fresh milk Soy milk, soy flour Wheat breads, flour etc. The food she is allergic to, can be known by the experience. Even an individual can be allergic to rice or to its components. She seems to have cough dominant asthma. In such case change of place can help. As allergic reactions are IgE mediated, blood tests will show increase in these levels secondary to a food allergy.
Avatar m tn But mixing whole grains, not simple carbs such as white flour, with any bean will produce a complete protein, although it will also be low in methionine.
Avatar f tn This can be as simple as adding small amounts of soy, potato flour or rice bran to a dish. These are important sources of fibre, B group vitamins, zinc and increase the variety of the diet. Soymilk and soybean oil is not a by-product of gluten. Be careful however, as foods may also contain less obvious sources of gluten as there is no requirement for manufacturers to specify the composition of ingredients that contribute less than 10% of a food.
Avatar n tn Try to limit simple carbs such as white flour -- eat whole wheat roti or spelt if you can find it (a grain native to India that's much better for you than wheat) and avoid the white flour naan, for example. The other side of it is to increase your output of energy, meaning exercise, from whatever you're doing now.
Girl Hi. Have you cut down on your carbs, namely flour and pasta?
Avatar f tn As for Soy, Asians eat a lot of soy in their diet, Soy formula is a good choice for infants, Soy-containing foods help prevent osteoporosis, Soy is a healthy food for adults, Soy helps improve libido in men. The above about Soy is false. Those who eat large amounts of soy, especially non-fermented soy, have severe hormonal imbalances that are very difficult or impossible to correct without eliminating or drastically reducing soy in the diet. i have seen soy as an ingredient added to tea bags!
Avatar f tn The common existing food allergens are Peanut flour, peanut butter, powdered egg white, Powdered/fresh milk Soy milk, soy flour Wheat breads, flour etc. But as you are allergic to pigmented fruits, you may have to avoid other fruits like grapes, papaya, beet root etc. As allergic reactions are IgE mediated, blood tests will show increase in these levels secondary to a food allergy.
Avatar f tn I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself today. I'm obviously hypo and just down and depressed. It started when I made chocolate chip cookies. I used a gluten free flour because I've figured by trial and error that my digestive system really hates gluten. The cookies were gross, which was very depressing. Still, I tried to eat them, because, darnit I want chocolate chip cookies! Within a few minutes my thyroid swelled. Why does it do this whenever I eat chocolate?
Avatar n tn I gave a comment here and the post shows I commented but I don't see it. Maybe it will show up some day but the website seems to be having a host of problems. Basically, carbs aren't all created equal, and calories are not your best source of tracking weight. Calories are one factor, but how well and how quickly you metabolize your food into sugar for energy is more determinative, as foods that turn quickly into sugar have to be burned off quickly or they store quickly as fat.
484844 tn?1253968693 I would take both with a grain of salt.... I did Atkins and lost initially, but it came back almost explosively because I couldn't sustain it. Try reducing your white carbs (sugar, flour, white breads)...focus on the good carbs, veggies, whole grains, etc. Eat a portion size protein, but have a protein with each meal (like adkins, not quite so strict)...do watch your calories.
