Avatar f tn Whole grain cereal Fruit and yogurt Whole grain toast with peanut butter, fruit Hard boiled egg As long as you stay with complex carbs, which are those in whole grains, veggies, fruits, such as apples pears, etc.you should be okay. The complex carbs are the ones that provide fiber to keep you feeling fuller longer. Also be sure to get plenty of protein with every meal. Eggs and whole grains are excellent sources of protein, as is dairy.
Avatar f tn Healthy diet is high in unprocessed and minimally processed foods. This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.
Avatar f tn Test his BG before he eats and 1 hour after. for many people they get reactive hypoglycemia. They eat BG rises high then the pancreas makes insulin and too much so BG goes down too far. Many that have reactive hypos end up developing diabetes. so it is a good idea to keep on top of it. also carbohydrates raise BG " almonds, boiled eggs and tomatoes" not many carbs in that. the oatmeal would have a lot of carbs and a lot of carbs can cause a reactive hypo. also is you meter good?

Avatar f tn How could my blood sugar spike when I was really watching what I ate, hardly any carbs at all. I do not think I have been taking in 800 calories a day. Could I have put my body in shock from such a restrictive diet? Up to my 2nd blood test I did not eat any meat, had oatmeal for breakfast - a can of sardines at 11:00 am (or low fat cottage cheese & an avacado) and 2 pieces of fish for a late lunch, and soup at night with a salad. I did a A1c this month at home and my # went to 6.4.
Avatar f tn t call it healthy, it was a meal of simple carbs, sugar, salt, and fat. Veggie omlets, steel cut oatmeal would be healthy breakfast options.
362249 tn?1441315018 s 5g of fiber or more in a food item, the grams of fiber get subtracted from the total amount of carbs in the food. For instance, fiberOne cereal has 13g fiber and 45g carbs. The 13g fiber gets subtracted from the 45g carbs, which equals out to 32g carbs total for the serving of FiberOne. (I can't remember exact amounts of fiber and carbs--so I guessed for this example).
Avatar n tn Most cereals (the crunchy with-milk kind, not oatmeal) have a high gylcemic index meaning that their carbs are absorbed very quickly by the body. In my experience, cereals are absorbed too quickly to be properly conterbalanced by insulin. I avoid these types of cereals except in hypoglycemic situations. J.
Avatar n tn Total CARBS minus fiber CARBS equals NET CARBS. Since fiber CARBS do not affect your glucose readings NET CARBS is more accurate for keeping track of intake. How do I know how many NET CARBS are in a food? Personally, I like caloriekingdotcom for looking up foods but you can also use a paperback book of foods w/nutritional analysis or read those government analysis labels on packaged goods. Decide on your personal goal for total daily intake of NET CARBS.
Avatar n tn Why and what can I do? I do not eat bread very often but I do eat oatmeal in the morning as I have to for IBS. Thank you.
1827931 tn?1317905317 If it works, stick with it! That being said, I'd certainly have your system checked out. I also developed Barrett's Esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition. I no longer have to take any medication. After reading your post, I think I'll start mixing in oatmeal in my diet again! Where you live, I'll bet you are familiar with Red Mill Steel Cut Oats, a great product.
Avatar f tn I agree. It's not the oatmeal or seeds or fill-in-the-blank that is your problem - it's the addictive behavior that can manifest itself in - like she said - our everday lives. Seeking out help from others, whether it be internet support groups, therapists (the old addage), self-help books or 12-step programs would be the first place to start!
Avatar f tn You have to follow a diet when having gestational diabetes. I would eat oatmeal one package of instant equals your fifteen grams of carbs eggs no carbs and bacon. Or eggs bacon and one piece of toast. Breakfast was always the hardest. What do you eat that's always the same?

Avatar f tn try eating oatmeal and cut out sugar...I started eating oatmeal and my skin cleared very nicely. I have hormonal acne, I don't use any topical medication as it is b.s.! I can tell you one thing, if you are over 30 and still have acne...there is probably a hormonal imbalance. Think about balancing youself from within. Diet and excersize increase my blood circulation and improve my skin drastically.
