Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar f tn I'm 5"1 and female, and my unhealthy lifestyle has led to my present weight of 273lbs. As of Monday, July 19, 2010, I implemented a change. I traded my usual fast food lunch (two slices of pizza, or burgers, or fried food) for something less fattening (an apple, a head of anise, carrots), I stopped having my usual after work snack of 9-12 pieces of sliced cheese (at 90 calories per piece), I try not to go overboard at dinner.
Avatar f tn I do know - hypothyroid patients no longer can burn carbs as others. So the less bad carbs the better. No bread-pasta-grains. and the bad thing - is we crave them terribly.
684658 tn?1239384954 m wondering if after all these years, will just drinking beer (or beer and hard liquor, like whiskey or vodka) cause someone to behave in bizarre manners, hallucinate, or become extremely violent? He says he quit doing drugs about 1982-1983, but with the way he acts/behaves, I don't believe him.
Avatar n tn Impression shows that there is subcutaneous edema in the abdominal wall and scalp - (Hydrops )of the fetus. Also Amniotic fluid volume is excess.(AFI-23.3 cm). What is the reason and give me suggestions in above case.
193609 tn?1292180293 Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out. In order to lose weight, you have to burn more than you consume. People lose weight on low carb diets because whether or not they realize it, they're consuming less calories. High carb foods (cereal, potatoes, rice, pasta, sugary snacks) tend to be quite calorie dense so a very modest portion can end up being pretty caloric.
Avatar f tn Whole grain cereal Fruit and yogurt Whole grain toast with peanut butter, fruit Hard boiled egg As long as you stay with complex carbs, which are those in whole grains, veggies, fruits, such as apples pears, etc.you should be okay. The complex carbs are the ones that provide fiber to keep you feeling fuller longer. Also be sure to get plenty of protein with every meal. Eggs and whole grains are excellent sources of protein, as is dairy.
Avatar n tn There is NO ideal carb count. Each of us is different. How many carbs you can handle without having your BG go too high (140 in the USA) is different than it is for me (I eat under 50gr a day). Google "eat to your meter" that will tell you haw many carbs YOU can eat.
Avatar f tn Carbs are in bread, pasta, veggies, etc. They are everywhere and they are good for you, complex carbs.
Avatar f tn The rum itself is about 10 years or older, I got it free from my friends mother who was giving away a ton of alcohol. In the same night drinking, I noticed in the left half of my left hand (Palm down) were kinda aching but nothing serious very very mild. I recognized this feeling as it happened the night I had 5 beers, but it went away easily by morning. I thought hey that's pretty nifty, a body indicator that shows how intoxicated I am.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar f tn I really want to quit drinking before I cause more damage to my body. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall and weigh about 125 pounds. For my size I think that I have a really high tolerance. I can drink either 2 bottles of wine or 1/4 to 1/2 of a big bottle of vodka mixed with club soda or the same amount of rum mixed with diet coke. I usually only drink beer on the weekends if we are at the lake or pool, so I don't pass out in the sun. But then I will come home and switch to wine or liquor.
Avatar n tn First of all, I'd like to say that I'm not a medical professional, I'm just the father of a diabetic child. Since she's not of legal drinking age, I asked a friend of mine who is also Type 1. He's also not a medical professional, but is of legal drinking age. According to him, alcoholic beverages are no different than any other type of drink or food, you have to count the carbs. The alcohol doesn't affect a person with diabetes any different than anyone else.
Avatar m tn i work in a liquor store and i sold a lot of beer and liquor to many ppl , I feel the guilty now.

Avatar f tn Today I had my 35th week scan and Dr.said liquor volume is 8cm. Is it normal? How can I iincrease it?
Avatar m tn HI , From past couple of days whenever I am trying to consume Liquor in the form of Scotch ;i am not able to consume more then 30ml pack and the result is severe headache & pain in my palms which was never a case earlier. Kindly suggest.
Avatar n tn Liquor itself will lower your blood sugar (liquor is all 0g of sugar, including liquors like rum which are based from sugar cane), but if you pair it with a sweet mixer (juice, soda, etc.) it will raise and lower your blood sugar. I usually find that when I drink, the mixers raise it first and the alcohol lowers it later. As for insulin, I use an insulin pump with a 1 unit / 11g of carb ratio.
Avatar f tn Healthy diet is high in unprocessed and minimally processed foods. This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.
Avatar n tn I have had type 2 diabetes for 16 years and have always had trouble with my levels. An uncontrolable brittle diabetic my doc calld me. Playing defense taking 3 different types of insulin a day all day. Recently my doc changed my insulins to 1 toujeo but it is impartive that I take fast acting with every meal according to the carb count.I have no idea what I'm doing. And despite my efforts they still sky rocket after I eat.
Avatar f tn YOu could put down total carbs and then in bracket after the amount of fibre. That way you have complete information. Are you on insulin, or just counting carbs? Personally, I never bother about counting fibre (I am on insulin).
