Avatar n tn The chicken is fine as it is protein, but the corn and the plaintains are quite high in carbs for a portion. Its a starchy vegetable. Check the glycemic index or a carb counter book. You can find this info online. I love corn also, just dont have it to often anymore.

Is there a list somewhere of foods and there carb value. Also which are good carbs and which are empty carbs? Gaining 1/4 of her body weight seems excessive.
Avatar m tn The total amount of net carbs you eat in a day is one number to watch, and the total number of net carbs you eat all at once is another number to watch. So lets say you limit yourself to 50 net carbs a day. (net carbs is total carbs minus fiber carbs.) A snack is sometimes suggested to be 15 net carbs. (Yum, chunk of cheese and handful of pecans!) Offhand I dont know the net carb of an apple but you can look that up and think about it.

I went for a few years totally avoiding carbs and I lost weight! I ended up going through a bit of depression and started not caring about weight gain. Gained about 10 kilo's Now I'm on a diet and having some carbs. I feel much fuller and healthier for introducing it to my diet. I'm still losing weight. Slowly though because I am type 1 diabetic.
Avatar f tn however, feel free to eat all the complex carbs you like, such as those found in veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, etc. If you drink soda, eliminate that from your diet and make water your drink of choice. Many people report losing quite a few pounds with just this one change. Make sure you eat high quality, lean protein with every meal and snack. A good snack might be an apple with peanut butter, where the apple is the fiber and the peanut butter is the protein.
Avatar f tn Well in my last doc visit I had sugar in my urine, she asked what I had had for breakfast I told her I had on orange and a banana with 2 slices of toast, with a tea with a suger in it! So she said their was allot of carbs and thats prob why their was sugar present when they tested it. But I have to go for a glucose tolerance test Wednesday just to make sure thats what it is! . . .
7712902 tn?1393734882 s healthy carbs because it has fiber and great vitamins but you must take in to consideration they are still Carbohydrates and your body treats all simple carbs the same. 1 apple yields about 20-30 carbs, a banana is about 30+, and most fruits are similar. The only true difference between a piece of fruit and table sugar is fiber and vitamins as far as your body is concerned.

613536 tn?1294238447 Early in this pregnancy, around 5 - 7 weeks I wouldnt feel like eating much in the evening or at night and I would wake up in the morning starving and not feeling good. My doctor told me I wasn't feeling good because it had been so many hours since I had ate anything. And he said I had to start eating something at night even if I didn't feel like it.

Avatar n tn It says I should be consuming about 130 carbs but it seems to me so many foods contain carbs. An apple and banana are both things I thought was good but they contain carbs that add to my 130. Carrots is another snack I wanted to eat and also has about 10 g.
Avatar f tn are you eating carbs or protein? maybe try a smaller amount of food and keeping track of your calories? I've read that protein can help when your feeling sick. If your not getting any exercise, maybe try walking. I am overweight to start with so I am very concerned about gaining to much weight. This is the approach I am planning on taking. I am also going to see what else I can find out about the GD diet, as I am concerned about getting GD, so I would prefer to proactive about things.
Avatar f tn I have serious sweets cravings alot too. I try to at least make sure that whatever I'm eating is low in something, either fat or sugar or carbs. Like angel food cake is fat free and I'll dip it in fat free cool whip. It still has alot of carbs. But it's better than eating a big piece of chocolate cake that's got the carbs and the fat. (Warning: do NOT get the fat free AND sugar free angel food cake tho! i got severe gas and gas pains for like 24 hours!!!

I am fully aware that levels ideally should be within 4.0 to 6.0..... any ideas please. Thanks in advance for your time.

Avatar n tn Don't beat yourself up too badly over it, I'm in the same boat as you... I don't really overeat, and the things that I do eat, I think out and try to make healthy meals, but I still ended up with gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, it's just something that happens because of all of the weird things that happen in pregnancy. I've learned to just go with it... That being said, I was advised to count how many grams of carbs that I take in and what foods contain them.

For dinner he eats a large portion of meat, some kind of starch (rice or potatoes) and ususally 2 different vegetables broccoli or green beans. At 8 o'clock he is starving again. He gets a lite snack sugar free jello or pudding and goes to bed and then he wakes up starving sometimes during the night or in the morning he acts like he never ate before.
