Avatar f tn I have read online that cutting out carbs is important for diabetes prevention, but carbs are a large part of my diet and I am pretty skinny already, so whenever I try to cut out carbs or cut down on carbs, I end up getting sick. Maybe it is coincidence, but I feel like it significantly impacts my immune system when I don't eat carbs. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Healthy diet is high in unprocessed and minimally processed foods. This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.
Avatar n tn m having difficulty with the carbs. It says I should be consuming about 130 carbs but it seems to me so many foods contain carbs. An apple and banana are both things I thought was good but they contain carbs that add to my 130. Carrots is another snack I wanted to eat and also has about 10 g.
Avatar m tn It works for me. Yes, you have to watch the amount of carbs you eat but it does matter what kind of carbs they are and where they fall on the GI. As for rice, white or brown, it has the same effect on my blood sugar (a bad one!) and so I have cut it out of my diet. Pumpernickel works for me and does not spike my glucose levels. The best pasta to eat is a brand called "Dreamfields"; it is specially processed to reduce the amount of digestible carbs.
550805 tn?1215030875 I haven't ever heard of cutting carbs to reduce anxiety....I was on the Atkins diet several years ago....ate almost no carbs, dropped a ton of weight, but it didn't affect my anxiety, other than I got excited to fit back into some of my old clothes. If you do find something that works, please post....I'd love an alternative to Xanax.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.

Carbohydrates Carbs raise BG ALL carbs Whole wheat, brown rice, most fruits, potato... all carbs raise BG Steak has very few carbs so it wont effect your BG much, however the mashed potatoes will send BG through the roof. Google "low carb hi fat diet" (LCHF) LOTS of diabetics can control there BG by eating LCHF diet without meds.

5609181 tn?1375332372 What do we eat?! I've been starving for days cause I can't find anything to eat. I haven't eaten red meat in nearly ten years and carbs have always been a big part of my diet and now I have to significantly cut back and get frustrated when I go to eat something and then end up not eating. I know I need to be eating more than I am but I'm terrified of eating something I shouldn't be..

1301482 tn?1325722991 There are 2 types of carbs; simple carbs, such as those found in sodas, things made with white refined sugar, flour, white rice, and even fruit. The other type of carb is the complex carb (otherwise known as dietary fiber), which is found in whole grains, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc. The simple carbs are broken down quickly and enter the blood stream as sugar, which if not used, is then stored as fat. Complex carbs/fiber are broken down slowly and keeps you feeling fuller longer.
4569680 tn?1359580401 s consumption of carbs in order to stabilise blood sugar. If you balance out your meals, you will notice a big difference not only in your heart rhythm, but in your energy levels and overall well-being. -Finally, avoid carbs that are very high in sugars, or if you can't avoid them, have them in moderation. For instance, rather than a bag of chips and a cookie, choose one of the two. I know, it's hard to choose, but believe me, it will be worth it!

I also got my cholesterol down with that diet. ---------------------------------------------- Lately, I've eased off the diet some, and am probably in phase II or III (mainteance)of the South Beach diet -- haven't read the book for awhile.
Avatar n tn Recently quit smoking (7 months ago) gained 15lbs. I'm 5 foot even and 156lbs. Any advice I. How to lose. I have upped my exercise and I'm on a 1200 cal diet, watching carbs, eating more veggies and increased water intake. I don't want to lose fast or unhealthy. Not looking for a number on the scale just want clothes to fit better at least.
Avatar f tn s my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight. There are instances where medical issues make this more difficult or seemingly impossible - in which case you need to deal with those issues prior to starting a weight loss regimen. I recently learned this from my own experiences.
Avatar n tn Limit your carbs if it's medically possible - when you do eat carbs, do it in veggies, fruits, and brown rice. Look up recipes from nutritionists and make those. Start taking walks as often as u can.
