Avatar f tn Healthy diet is high in unprocessed and minimally processed foods. This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.
Avatar n tn My fasting sugars are 115-130 on 1000mg of metformin twice daily. I am on a strict diet with no sugar, low carbs, and no fat. I also lost 20 pounds so that I would no longer be overweight. THis has not helped. When I was originally placed on Metformin for PCOS and metabolic syndrome 3 yrs ago my blood sugar level was 110 with at least half of my diet consisting of chocolate and soda. So it is very frustrating that I am working so hard on this diet and still having high sugar levels.
Avatar f tn POP is HORRIBLE for dieting. Reqular pop has over 20 grams of sugar in 1 can and just as many grams of carbohydrates! In order to loose weight you have to cut back sugar and carbs. Diet soda doesn't have sugar or carbs but it has something in it that makes your appetite increase! Just say NO to pop! You will be glad you did!
Avatar m tn i need to manage my sugar better. i tried exercise, cutting out most carbs in my diet. but i get attacked by pasta and pizza from time to time. i really have cut back a lot on my diet but need other tips so that my a-1c gets better. any ideas?
Avatar n tn So curious, upon waking one day, I drank a 20oz coke with slightly less carbs given in a glucose test(I think 65). I checked, and sure enough, had similar normal readings like in the glucose tolerance test. My Dr. Said its likely just because I stress about testing, its effecting food digestion, and the stress hormones are raising blood sugars more when I'm trying to digest a carb load.
Avatar f tn //www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and-recipes/nutrition/overview.jsp My suggestion is low or no sugar and stay away from bad carbs for the latter will jack up his glucose levels. For a list of good carbs vs bad carbs go here http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6628.
Avatar f tn Is diet coke safe during pregnancy? I've heard mix reviews.
7366593 tn?1400009626 I drink it.. it like my coffee. I gotta have it. Its not really good for you but trust me. There are things wayyyyy worse..
3060903 tn?1398565123 Fruits contain fructose. Fructose is fruit sugar, a monosaccharide - a very simple sugar. And it is not equal to refined sugar although to diabetics fructose can produce effects similar to sugar. One medium banana [7 - 8" long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not.
Avatar m tn Last weekend I was out drinking with some pals only on Saturday night, had quite a few mainly Jack Daniels and Coke. Everythings been fine no pain in my stomach or anything but I cannot stop burping and I dont know why? Its been going on for 2 days now, Ive even made myself be sick to get rid of the gas in my stomach but It wont go, seems like it keeps reproducing itself and is really annoying.
Avatar n tn I have just read a book on fasting and using a ketogenic diet for weight loss and diabetes reversal. I am trying it now and am finding it very easy to implement. There are various fasts you can do. I am sure you can find one or two ways to work for you. You should get this book! I have tried all of the diets in my 63 yrs of life and none have given lasting results. I feel like this way is going to be much easier to do than those I have tried in the past.
Avatar n tn s the type of carbs. Simple carbs, such as sugar and white flour, metabolize into sugar in your body very quickly and store as fat if not burned very quickly. Complex carbs burn more slowly and provide a long-lasting energy and provide us with our most important nutrients. High protein diets are a current fad, and some of them might one day prove out -- we just have to see what happens when we have a lot of years of people eating this way and see what happens to them.
899491 tn?1243773627 Well its generally the atypical antipsychotics that have a risk of diabetes and other metabolic imbalances. Lithium can certainly cause weight gain. I remember that being a problem when I was on it. With other mood stabilizers it varies. Right now the mood stabilizer I am on Clonidine can cause weight gain but the way I avoid that is to not snack on things that are unhealthy and to drink flavored seltzer water instead of soda or any other beverage with sugar.
Avatar f tn My A1C was over 10 at the start. I switched from real coke to Coke Zero (my biggest addiction) and went on a high protein/low carb (not NO carb) diet. I lost to 180 and my AIC is 6.1. I did NOT exercise. Should I? Yes. Will I?? Probably not. I no longer take meds and my sugar is good so far. It has been 4 years and my Dr. is happy. I knew I could not do the low carb, high protein forever, but got serious and managed to do it for 9 months and lost the wt. during that time.
1235957 tn?1270261522 My mom and stp-dad along with grandma usually stick with wheat bread items, fruits, vegetables, and a lot of chicken. They don't eat a lot of red meat or a lot of fried/fast foods. They'll drink diet soft drinks and ocassionally a normal soft drink and a candy bar if their sugar is low or something full of sugar like ice cream and candies and such once in a while if they've been good as a treat.
Avatar f tn Watch those carbs in your diet. Maybe 60 per meal. As an aid read the nutrition labels. Zero coke or pepsi only.See a registered dietician.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.

Avatar f tn Sugar is not just in sweets, candy, etc. Carbs play a part in your sugar intake and glucose levels.

Avatar f tn The only way to tell is to get a BG meter and test... test before you eat count the carbs you eat and test 1 hour, 2 hours after you eat. your BG should not go over 140. We do know carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs... rice, pasta, wheat, potato, and most fruit contain large amounts of carbs. so test to see what you can eat.
4569680 tn?1359580401 Carbs should be a rare, seasonal treat; things like honey, and fruits. Instead we literally bathe ourselves in carbs. take for instance a tall glass of natural orange juice. How many oranges go into that glass; 6, 8, possibly more. It's too much of a good thing. I could go on and on..... But my advice to you would be to try drastically reducing your carb intake, and adopt a new lifestyle. It may take a while, but perhaps you'll experience the same phenomonon I did.
