Avatar m tn Low carb diet can affect thyroid levels. Did you also test for the actual thyroid levels along with TSH, If so please post those results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report. The thyroid levels will be more indicative of your status than TSH. Even though doctors like to believe that TSH is a very sensitive indicator of thyroid status, it does not correlate well with either thyroid hormone Free T4 or Free T3.
Avatar m tn https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/guide/how-test-blood-glucose#1 Here is some information also about normal sugar levels. 112 is higher than what it should be so please consult your doctor if this continues. http://diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/treatment-and-care/blood-glucose-control/checking-your-blood-glucose.html And here is a really helpful slide show about stopping diabetes before it starts in terms of prevention. https://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Your diet would then consist of vegetables (leafy greens, salad veges, avocado), some nuts, and proteins with fats. People following low carb diet typically need to increase salt and electrolytes intake, and drink plenty of water (unsweetened tea, coffee, etc also ok). It can be hard to follow a low carb diet if you are eating vegan, so you may wish to research. Again, hope you can find medical help as well. Please let us know how you go.

Avatar n tn Here's some information from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app on artificial sweeteners. It doesn't cover the taste, but we do provide info on how these sweeteners affect your carb intake. Here's hoping you find something that works for you! http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Get-Sweetener-Savvy/1845 You can find this in the app by clicking the menu button in the upper left of the home screen, selecting Health Guide, and exploring the Eat Right section.
Tbd Carbs from whole grains and/or carbs with fiber will help you maintain more stable blood sugar. Here is some information on better carbs for diabetes. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Know-Your-Carbs/2288 http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Natures-Blood-Sugar-Secret/1822 You can find these articles in the Eat Right section of the Sugar Sense app; tap the bar menu in the upper lefthand corner and scroll down to find the Health Guide.
Tbd It usually involves cutting all added sugars, grains, sweet fruits and starchy veges. Low carb is defined as less than 100g of carbs per day. Very low carb is 25 - 50 g of carb per day. When you cut carbs you still energy so you get this from increasing your fat intake and making sure you have enough protein. Enough protein can be at least 100g for a woman and probably about 120g for a man. You can use a diet tracker to work out which foods have how much carbs, protein, and fats.
Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.

8526246 tn?1405601876 I just got diagnosed today ,the dr told me to lay off carbs , sugary drinks
Avatar f tn I have it. You will have to monitor your carb intake. Odds are that you will meet with a nutritionist who will help with teaching you how to manage it. You will test your blood 4xs a day and go for non stress tests and more ultrasounds then normal. You will only have to deliver early if your blood sugars are out of control. I'm 38 weeks and well managed. Try NOT to Google much. Let your doctor guide you. Google will just scare the crap out of you.
Avatar n tn I do eat low carb. However, if you use insulin you need to be, aware that some carb foods digest more quickly than others, which may affect insulin dosing.

Avatar f tn Canada's food guide recommends 1500 mg of salt per day and an absolute maximum intake of 2300mg per day. So if I eat at a restaurant means salt is always a major problem. Trying to pre-plan by using the online nutrition information of the restaurant has been helpful in avoiding complete disasters.

1519983 tn?1401046428 I decided to limit my carb intake, but am not really sure what I could eat that would be good subs. I don't want to do anything extreme like the atkins or anything, but cut my carb intake by like half. I eat way too many. i love potatoes, bread, pasta, rice all of that, so any advice or tips on this would be great.
Avatar n tn I eat under 50gr of carbs a day. Reasonable or not depends on who you ask. We do know carbs are what your body turns to Blood Glucose (BG). Dont confuse the carb with the stuff its mixed with, vitamins, minerals. All those are available in other foods without the carbs.

Avatar n tn Hi. Is this app helpful for you when you log in your carb intake? Or is there other things that you do? I noticed I can only put if my carb is low , medium or high and it fills the plate but I'm not sure what is considered low , etc...
17593698 tn?1458185817 The best advice I can give is to start thinking in terms of Carb units (15 grams of carb = 1 carb unit) and try to balance your carb intake with fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow digestion and as a result minimizes spikes in blood sugar. Also meet with a diabetes educator and nutritionalist they are a great resource and can get you started on the right path. Good luck with the new adjustments, and now that you have millions of friends to lean on for support.
Avatar f tn Hiya - I agree with the comments above. I've just been introduced to this reduced carb lifestyle by my daughter-in-law in New Zealand who calls it the paleo lifestyle - the more gentle version is the primal diet. (There's loads on the web with recipes and ideas.) They've been doing it for nearly a year now and look fantastic! They have masses of energy and my son just completed the Auckland marathon recently. The cat is even on it and has lost weight!!
