720228 tn?1530911279 The person with diabetes should manage carb intake very carefully. i am diabetic and typically eat 20 - 30 total grams of carb a day. I eat eggs, nuts, meats, and plenty of veges. My children also eat the same way, though they eat small amounts of fruit.
Business woman2 That's fantastic result, Osakarose! AHA recommended 20g of daily sugar intake for women and 40g for men. I also have a friend who has halved her triglyceride level and LDL since she started paleo/low-sugar diet. I think the trick is to increase one's fat intake to take the place of carbohydrates and limit protein to 20-25% of the daily calorie intake. Don't starve, OK???
8793709 tn?1409594060 It's more of the number of carbs u intake. I'm on a low Carb diet due to gd.. I can only have 45g for breakfast and 60 for lunch and dinner and 15 for snacks. It's also a good diet for managing weight gain.
Avatar n tn The same things that work for non-diabetics trying to lose weight work for diabetics. Reduce caloric intake and increase exercise. Many of us believe in low carb eating and the lower carb you eat you will also lose weight. Be sure if you do this to reduce your insulin intake as it will also lower your blood sugar. Obviously lowering fat intake will also help lose weight and you will have to eat a lot more vegies, salads, and more lean meat (skinless chicken or fish) to compensate.
Tbd When you cut carbs you still energy so you get this from increasing your fat intake and making sure you have enough protein. Enough protein can be at least 100g for a woman and probably about 120g for a man. You can use a diet tracker to work out which foods have how much carbs, protein, and fats. Other helpful natural means to control include exercise and normalizing weight. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have read I should increase my caloric intake by 300, but I am wondering what is the best carb to protein to fat ratio for a pregnant woman?
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.

Avatar n tn Hi. Is this app helpful for you when you log in your carb intake? Or is there other things that you do? I noticed I can only put if my carb is low , medium or high and it fills the plate but I'm not sure what is considered low , etc...
17593698 tn?1458185817 The best advice I can give is to start thinking in terms of Carb units (15 grams of carb = 1 carb unit) and try to balance your carb intake with fiber. Soluble fiber helps slow digestion and as a result minimizes spikes in blood sugar. Also meet with a diabetes educator and nutritionalist they are a great resource and can get you started on the right path. Good luck with the new adjustments, and now that you have millions of friends to lean on for support.
Avatar f tn if you cut down on the fat whilst still eating a balanced diet you should notice a marked improvement in ur weightloss. if ur fond of biscuits for e.g. then make it a plain tea or digestive and no more than 2 at a time. use lean meat and trim off excess if there is any. dry fry stuff or grill/oven bake more and always drink loads of water, if u dnt like plain water add a little sugar free diluting juice to it.
Avatar n tn I eat breakfast 15 gram carbs, snack 15 grams carb, lunch 60 grams carb, snack 30 grams carb, dinner 60 grams carb, snack 15 grams carb. Its crazy. This is my first pregnancy.

I don't want to do anything extreme like the atkins or anything, but cut my carb intake by like half. I eat way too many. i love potatoes, bread, pasta, rice all of that, so any advice or tips on this would be great.
591470 tn?1218975186 The minimum calorie intake for the body to not go into malnutrition is 1200 calories. Suggest you increase your calorie intake to 1500 calories per day.
973741 tn?1342342773 Am glad that comment helped you. How are you going with your diabetes management? I find that finding some low carb treats that I can enjoy helps a lot with sticking with the plan. My weakness is actually chocolate. So, I buy the very dark chocolate (around 85% cocoa or higher). This is so rich and satisfying that just 1 piece is usually enough. There are plenty of great recipes for low carb foods these days.

Tbd In some cases, it absolutely can be controlled by watching your diet- making sure to eat those things that are not just 'healthy' but watching the carb intake in those things too. There are some cases that you will need the medications for- but regardless, healthy eating habits can only improve your condition.
