Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar n tn If you would like to follow me I eat low carb I eat 30 carbs a day bc I had JD and my dad died at 53 from complication to diabetes so if I eat 30 or less carbs a day my A1C is 5.3 when I eat carbs it's about a 8 so that's my happy number.

Avatar n tn The post eating numbers should guide you on adjusting your meals. Typically most people find that eating low carb meals will help in lowering blood sugars. Are you on insulin? IF you are, then it is also important to check before meals to see if you are back to normal numbers, or too low, or too high before you ate. You may also use blood sugar results to gauge the effects / benefits of exercise on your blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn I have a quick guide booklet that shows me the percentage of carbs I am allowed to have, and according to that guide and the reports (from my food diary) I am meeting the percentage of carbs. Any help counting carbs/cutting carbs will greatly help. I've even considered going on the Atkins Diet, but quickly realized that this is not a diet, but a complete lifestyle change and believe it or not, I think that I am afraid of the lifestyle change.
Evillady My doctor gave me a guide, but to be safe please check with your husbands' doc on this to make sure this info is appropriate for him. Pre-meal glucose should be: 70 to 120 2 hours after a meal, glucose should be: less than 180 Also be sure that your husband gets his blood tested every 90 days (or whatever schedule his doctor recommends) to insure his A1C level is good. He will need to check with his doctor to find out what level is his ideal. I hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Okay, we're now about 5 days into learning that our daughter is diabetic. So really any info at this time is going to be greatly appreciated. Some of our most immediate concerns revolve around diet. We fully understand how to do the calculations we need, how to check labels, really most of the basics. But we are also trying to find resources that are a little more specific as to snacks that are no-carb, low-carb.
Avatar n tn if medications are adjusted right then it should not be necessary to snack between meals. eating lower carb will also help avoid highs and keep levels more stable (though medications may possibly also need to be reduced.
Avatar n tn Maybe through more search(or someone else on the site might know a specific book for what you are looking for) you can find a website or restaurant guide with all the information you are seeking.
Avatar f tn there is another approach which uses both short and long acting insulins and calculates dosages based on how much carb and protein you eat. Critical is to count carbohydrates and to determine exactly how much insulin you need to cover how much carbohydrfates. Don't give up. YOu are young and you can manage this with the right information and tools (insulin, diet, exercise).
Avatar f tn Mid last year when my A1C was 6.9 and I went on a very low carb diet I had taken another A1C at home 3 months later and my A1C went to 7.3 around December 2012. I kept on the very low carb diet, eating mostly proteins - fish fish and more fish I started losing weight really fast. I was originally at 112 - 115 keeping my weight at that by eating a ton on carbs. As soon as I was diagnosed I cut out carbs and now my weight is at 92 - 95 pounds.
Avatar m tn It is very difficult to know anything based on what you posted. First, lab ranges even for the different labs in the US differ so without ranges - have no idea if you are low, high or normal. Second - no idea if you are sick or how you are sick. The tests run are not really run for adrenal except DHEA (and that is really more of an adrogen - e.g. it converts to testosterone and estrogen) so not sure why it belongs in this forum.
Avatar n tn now i am in 3rd month amenotic fluid is low.
