Avatar f tn Carb Blockers are diet pills that work by inhibiting the metabolism of carbohydrates into stored fat. Brand names include Carb Intercept, Anatril,C Block and Carb Cutter.
Avatar f tn And I have basically continued to watch what I eat. Has this happened with anyone else? Do other beta blockers have this effect as well? My husband is on a beta blocker, and he does not have this problem.
Avatar n tn I have heard that doctors in Britain have stopped prescribing beta blockers. Does anyone know why and what alternative are they prescribing? I take them, plus the water pill, for high blood pressure and chest pain.
Avatar f tn Hello, the most effective diet for controlling diabetes is one that is low carb, moderate protein, and high in healthy fats. You can look up paleo (their approach is quite diabetes friendly), or mediterannean (though you may want to reduce the bread, past, etc).
Avatar f tn IST is exceptionally hard to manage, and often is either just tolerated or managed with medications such as beta blockers (which if the asthma is very severe, can be exacerbated by beta blockers). Ablation of the sinus node is rarely performed and done and if so, only in the most severe cases. This is because the sinus node is smaller in size, and management of IST often means that the entire sinus node can be damaged.
7831604 tn?1399711007 Just keep in mind if they put you on a diet you want to look at the carb content not sugar. On the nutritional facts they include sugar already in the carb amount. They have me doing 30g of carbs for breakfast 60 for lunch and 60 fir dinner and my snacks can't be more than 30.
Avatar f tn m taking beta blockers. My PACs respond well to beta blockers but sometimes they break through the beta blockade. It typically happens if I'm on a low carb diet (for some mysterious reason I haven't yet figured out) Lifting weights is notorious for provoking premature beats. The adrenaline levels in your blood can increase 100 times from baseline, and the heart rate isn't as high as during aerobic exercise.
Avatar f tn It happened again last night, and the only explanation I have for it is a very heavily carb-laden meal late in the evening. A couple of weeks ago, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I think eating a very large pomegranate late in the evening caused it. Same MO...heart rate upper 80s/lower 90s sustained for hours.
Avatar m tn I have had SVT since I was 16 and didn't realise its was anything to worry about until I fainted in the shower when I was 28. I was put on Beta Blockers which I felt didn't work as I was still getting 4 to 5 second bursts of rapid heart beat then it would stop by holding my breath. I'm now on Verapamil 80mg and I am still getting the same problem. My question is.
Avatar n tn beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers can also treat angina; ACE inhibitors also treat heart failure; some drugs are not suitable if you are pregnant; some are thought to be better if you have diabetes; some tend to work better than others in people of Afro-Caribbean origin; etc. If you do not have any other medical problems that warrants a particular drug, then current UK guidelines give the following recommendations as to usual drugs that should be used.
225237 tn?1333138999 There is a book I recommend it is called sugar blockers, you must take care of your self now and try your best. I wish I would have had that advice when I told I was prediabetic. You know there is something you can start taking now to control it. It is called Mulberry leaf vitamin all natural. Also cinnamon, and there are other natural herbs that can help. If you are over weight it is best to get rid of that extra weight.
Avatar m tn I dont want to take anything that will lower the two anymore than what they are and I read that channel blockers do lower both as does beta blockers. Is there anything I can take without lowering.
Avatar m tn Just out of interest, here in the UK they subtract a further 20 if you are on beta blockers. Is it the same in the states?
Avatar m tn Thanks. I can't believe a year has gone by since I posted I will try cutting out all sugar. I will do that next week as I have some important things to do this week, and cutting out sugar does give me a real energy low to start with, so it would affect my performance this week. I have to do some presentations this week. Does anyone know of any basic sensible diet that would be of general help just to get me through this week?
Avatar m tn A common class of blood pressure drugs called angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) may be linked with a slightly increased risk of developing cancer, US scientists have found. But Cancer Research UK emphasised that no firm conclusions can be drawn from their study and that people who take ARBs should not stop using their prescribed medicines without first talking to their GP.
Avatar m tn It is found in aged cheese and meats, overripe fruit, and I think chocolate. The UK Daily Mail had an article about it last year. Doctors really do not seem to know about or be interested in the digestion/palpitation connection - yet so many sufferers claim the two things are often related. My own trip to A and E with bigeminy coincided with a very acid upset stomach.
1124887 tn?1313754891 I should mention that I immediately stopped my low carb diet when the PACs were at the worst. I also tried to take some rapidly acting beta blockers (propranolol) which had always been effective in the past. It didn't help. I keep having this nagging fear that my PACs will return, because 1) I have no idea what really triggered them, and 2) beta blockers did not help.
Avatar n tn For example, eighteen percent of people with high blood pressure can reduce the pressure by taking simple calcium supplements. That study was funded by a company manufacturing calcium-channel blockers, for whom I worked briefly two decades ago. A long, long time ago, when Obama was a gleam in his father's eye, I worked in college in a behavioral science lab and we experimented with use of conditioning to reduce blood pressure.
1090423 tn?1286287650 my blood sugar is high between 11 and 18.4, uk testing , it has been for two days , i dont know why , what can i do to lower it , and at what point should i go to the hospital.
Avatar f tn My daughter is in her early 20s now and her doc has prescribed beta-blockers for her. She had a brief ECG at the surgery and that's it. She still often feels unwell and I have been urging her to go back but she says the doc has said treatment will still be the same. I feel she should have been sent for tests at the hospital by a specialist. The checks she's had don't seem adequate to me.
Avatar f tn The first course of treatment is usually beta blockers, but even then in the UK that is only suggested if patients are suffering with the symptoms, usually they say just to ignore them. They don't seem to count them as frequent unless you are having thousands a day. I was having 30 a minute in the ER and the cardiologist wasn't concerned and sent me home. Let us know how you get on at your appointment.
Avatar n tn Adcal-D3 has 1500mg Calcium Carb.+ D3-400 I.U.I did take them for a week and noticed my imrov.-aches in the joints stopped. However I reduced the dose and take it twice a week to come off completely. Also I am going to have a blood test: TFT on T4 replacement,B12/Ferum Foliate.Already I do take B12 inject.-1 every 3 months. I wonder if TFT on replacement T4 includes Free T3 and T4 test,if not i'll go to the surgery again. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn I can't really answer your question because I'm not familiar with your insulin or units of measure (I'm in the UK). But to get a low-blood-sugar reading up fairly quickly and accurately, you could use Jelly Babies. They taste ok and are exactly 5g of fast acting carb in each one. I use them as an emergency source to get out of hypo. The good thing is, if you know how much you need to raise your b.s. by to get within normal range, these can achieve it quickly.
966351 tn?1282071914 5 HUGE episodes within 7 weeks! Byt this time, I was transplanted to the UK, and docs here changed me to bisoprolol (a beta blocker). At first, my AF episodes were not helped so they doubled my dosage. Well, double the episodes! (Meanwhile, I was continuing the warfarin I had started on when in the US, in April of 2004.) Further echocardiograms showed the aortic stenosis was worsening, and after the 5-in-7 weeks, it showed I needed aortic valve replacement, which I had in January 2007.
Avatar m tn I’ve not been showing it though, I’m a 19 year old bisexual boy from conservative region of the UK who has can not show signs of what is considered a “girls” problem. Thus I have no outlet, can’t talk to family or friends and am becoming further depressed the more hide my problems. Basically there are several reasons why I am feeling so lo. So here they are in no particular order: - I found my birth dad last year for the first time, 4 months later he is accused of rape.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
