Avatar f tn Carb Blockers are diet pills that work by inhibiting the metabolism of carbohydrates into stored fat. Brand names include Carb Intercept, Anatril,C Block and Carb Cutter.
Avatar f tn And I have basically continued to watch what I eat. Has this happened with anyone else? Do other beta blockers have this effect as well? My husband is on a beta blocker, and he does not have this problem.
Avatar f tn IST is exceptionally hard to manage, and often is either just tolerated or managed with medications such as beta blockers (which if the asthma is very severe, can be exacerbated by beta blockers). Ablation of the sinus node is rarely performed and done and if so, only in the most severe cases. This is because the sinus node is smaller in size, and management of IST often means that the entire sinus node can be damaged.
Avatar f tn m taking beta blockers. My PACs respond well to beta blockers but sometimes they break through the beta blockade. It typically happens if I'm on a low carb diet (for some mysterious reason I haven't yet figured out) Lifting weights is notorious for provoking premature beats. The adrenaline levels in your blood can increase 100 times from baseline, and the heart rate isn't as high as during aerobic exercise.
Avatar f tn Hello, What you are having is chronic constipation. chronic constipation can be habitual constipation due to faulty dietary habits, decreased water intake or it can be drug induced. Medications for hypertension like calcium channel blockers like verapamil etc, or tri-cyclic antidepressants may cause constipation. Endocrine disorders like hypothyroidism may be responsible for the same. Or it can be due to local causes like spastic colon, sub-acute obstruction or tumours etc.
Avatar f tn It happened again last night, and the only explanation I have for it is a very heavily carb-laden meal late in the evening. A couple of weeks ago, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I think eating a very large pomegranate late in the evening caused it. Same MO...heart rate upper 80s/lower 90s sustained for hours.
Avatar f tn It seems that the chest pains are less frequent, but I still get the tight in the chest and breathing issues I had on the beta blocker. Do calcium channel blockers cause lung thightness? My BP was still around 130/90 2 weeks into the Diltiazem. We are checking again when I finish the bottle. Meanwhile, lots of aches and flue like sypmtoms. I always feel sick and tired. I sleep 9 hours a night, but wake up with anxiety attacks around midnight. I think I want to try Cozar again.
Avatar n tn Will refuse to eat or drink. Severe constipation. I have noticed the same pattern over the years...It lasts for couple of weeks and he may have a good 2/3 weeks and then the symptoms reoccur.
225237 tn?1333138999 There is a book I recommend it is called sugar blockers, you must take care of your self now and try your best. I wish I would have had that advice when I told I was prediabetic. You know there is something you can start taking now to control it. It is called Mulberry leaf vitamin all natural. Also cinnamon, and there are other natural herbs that can help. If you are over weight it is best to get rid of that extra weight.
Avatar m tn If you are prone to constipation, many of us are, verapamil may make it much worse. It did for me and the doctor told me my body would get used to it in a couple of weeks....it did NOT and I had to stop taking it plus it did nothing for my tachycardia.
Avatar n tn m on Levoxyl and my doctor just put me on Cytomel as well and I still have all these symptoms. severe myalgia(eating low carb helps a bit), weight gain with servere constipation(Had colectomy which helped some), I just can't seem to find any relief. Please give me any thoughts on what could be checked or changed. What is a good range for TSH if still having symptoms? less than what? Please please any thoughts.
Avatar f tn Hello, Not taking enough fiber in your diet, low intake of vegetables and cereals, anxiety, change in eating habits all can cause constipation. You may make simple changes to your diet and lifestyle like including high-fiber foods, drinking plenty of fluids and regularly exercising .See a doctor of the symptoms are severe. He may prescribe an oral laxative. Keep me posted. I hope it helps. Take care and kind regards!
Avatar f tn Some people find that carbs make it worse. For me am following low carb diet (no grains / bread / potato etc) and that seems to help a lot with the heartburn.
Avatar m tn Low carb diet can affect thyroid levels. Did you also test for the actual thyroid levels along with TSH, If so please post those results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report. The thyroid levels will be more indicative of your status than TSH. Even though doctors like to believe that TSH is a very sensitive indicator of thyroid status, it does not correlate well with either thyroid hormone Free T4 or Free T3.
1124887 tn?1313754891 I should mention that I immediately stopped my low carb diet when the PACs were at the worst. I also tried to take some rapidly acting beta blockers (propranolol) which had always been effective in the past. It didn't help. I keep having this nagging fear that my PACs will return, because 1) I have no idea what really triggered them, and 2) beta blockers did not help.
Avatar f tn I am a 45 yr. old female recently put on beta blockers due to pvc's/pac's. I totally understand that this lowers my heart rate in order to regulate it. For 20+ yrs. I have worked out intensely and kept track of my 'target' heart rate and calorie burn with a heart rate monitor. Since being on the beta blocker I can no longer reach my target hr for my age (122 - 139) and this is very frustrating. I'm also burning around 40% fewer calories.
284738 tn?1283106819 The constipation is from acid blockers causing a poor absorption of nutrients. Get the book, WHY STOMACH ACID IS GOOD FOR YOU. Spitting up is pretty normal for most babies up to 6 months. Also agreed that reflux can be triggered by allergies like in cow's milk formula and soy. A good one if you have to go with formula is neocate or nannycare goat milk formula. Reflux meds do not correct the problem but make it worse. The problem is poor digestion...he needs MORE acid, NOT less!
Avatar f tn My worry is the constipation and tiredness and sleepiness she seems to be having. I know she has had this big op and it will have effects but she is a fighter and I do not feel she is fighting as I know her! Please can anyone help with any advise or if this extreme fatigue is normal. She has low potassium . She is fit and healthy in weight and got appetite. Does this cancer move aggressively? She had it one yr before it was diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Try eliminating grains a going low carb from your diet for a couple of weeks and see if you will see a change. Seems to work with many people.
Avatar m tn It all started after I slept in the basement for about a year and I ate a high carb diet that included a lot of oatmeal, chips, cookies, noodles, bread, etc. One night while I was asleep I was awoken to a very bad feeling in my body. It felt very strange and that I was "high" on medication. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the feeling was terrible. After that night my stools began to get worse as days passed.
Avatar n tn For example, eighteen percent of people with high blood pressure can reduce the pressure by taking simple calcium supplements. That study was funded by a company manufacturing calcium-channel blockers, for whom I worked briefly two decades ago. A long, long time ago, when Obama was a gleam in his father's eye, I worked in college in a behavioral science lab and we experimented with use of conditioning to reduce blood pressure.
Avatar n tn exhaustion, fingernail issues, losing hair, night sweats, constipation, light or non-existent menstrual periods, constantly hungry (but not eating above my calorie range) a bad taste in my mouth daily and continued weight gain. By late-May, my numbers finally showed I was slightly low, on the hypo end of the scale. My Dr. put me on 25 mcg of Levoxyl. By mid-June, I was worse. We bumped it up to 50 mcg. At this point I had headaches so bad I couldn't focus my eyes on a daily basis.
