Avatar f tn Hello, the most effective diet for controlling diabetes is one that is low carb, moderate protein, and high in healthy fats. You can look up paleo (their approach is quite diabetes friendly), or mediterannean (though you may want to reduce the bread, past, etc).
7831604 tn?1399711007 Just keep in mind if they put you on a diet you want to look at the carb content not sugar. On the nutritional facts they include sugar already in the carb amount. They have me doing 30g of carbs for breakfast 60 for lunch and 60 fir dinner and my snacks can't be more than 30.
Avatar n tn I had RAI 12/08. My written instructions from my Dr. said to resume beta blocker and methimazole 48 hrs. after RAI. If my resting pulse was 90 or more, to double the beta blocker dosage. My meds were leftover from pre-RAI, so I didn't need an additional prescription. However, you should follow your Dr.'s instructions. For me, resuming the meds barely took the edge off. I finally went hypo after 11 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have been told that eating a very low carb meal for supper is the best way to achieve a consistent night - but I have found that even plain garden salads do little to check my rise. HOWEVER, last week I travelled to the UK for a conference and for the entire week I had healthy sugar levels. My bedtime, midnight, 3am and morning levels were nearly all the same (90 - 126)..... I am so confused!
Avatar f tn I live in the UK now, but was first seen in the US for the problem several years ago, and was told I could not have Beta Blockers because my heart was already too low at sleep times. I did have a monitor for 24 hours then, and have had one here a few months back, and the doc here said I would be fine on them..hmmm, this is getting a bit scary!! I have only just started the higher dose..can anyone tell me what I can expect??
116881 tn?1189755823 I'm no expert but I believe that Cardizem (Calcium Channel Blocker) is considered a very effective drug for afib. Cardizem, I believe, also lowers bp and heart rate. Could your Dr prescribe some instant acting Cardizem that could be taken in the case of an Afib event on the plane? I would think that this may at least keep your heart rate contained until you can get to an actual medical facility upon landing. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn So the only advice I can give is to get your Doctor to find a brand which hopefully suits you. Here in the UK, the most common used beta blocker is Bisoprolol. It is a powerful brand, but the dosage needs to be very low. I never had any problems with this med and believe me, I normally react to everything on the planet. I was started on 2.5mg and it was found this was a little bit too high, so it was reduced to 1.25mg.
1090423 tn?1286287650 my blood sugar is high between 11 and 18.4, uk testing , it has been for two days , i dont know why , what can i do to lower it , and at what point should i go to the hospital.
Avatar n tn Adcal-D3 has 1500mg Calcium Carb.+ D3-400 I.U.I did take them for a week and noticed my imrov.-aches in the joints stopped. However I reduced the dose and take it twice a week to come off completely. Also I am going to have a blood test: TFT on T4 replacement,B12/Ferum Foliate.Already I do take B12 inject.-1 every 3 months. I wonder if TFT on replacement T4 includes Free T3 and T4 test,if not i'll go to the surgery again. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn I can't really answer your question because I'm not familiar with your insulin or units of measure (I'm in the UK). But to get a low-blood-sugar reading up fairly quickly and accurately, you could use Jelly Babies. They taste ok and are exactly 5g of fast acting carb in each one. I use them as an emergency source to get out of hypo. The good thing is, if you know how much you need to raise your b.s. by to get within normal range, these can achieve it quickly.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
1755089 tn?1376053555 Bisoprolol is the most common beta blocker prescribed by top heart hospitals in the uk and is known to be strong. It is also specific, aiming at specific cells in the heart (receptors). Once my dosage was corrected, I found they helped with symptoms, but I felt sluggish all the time. Not tired as such, just slow. When I came off them after years, I was suddenly dashing around like a cat on a hot tin roof.
Avatar f tn This is a common compaint with (at least) Metoprolol. It's the only one I've ever taken, so I can't compare. I gained almost 45 pounds which pushed my blood sugar into the danger zone, which I'm now on a diet to lose before I have to go on Metformin for that. I have 90 days to show an improvement. My recommendation to you would be to cut nearly all carbs from your diet. I restrict myself to less than 50 a day. That, and walk. I lost 5 pounds in my frst week on this regime.
Avatar n tn s the case. In the UK we can buy something called metatone tonic over the counter which is great stuff for replenishing metals in the body. I take a couple of tea spoons each week.
415714 tn?1255273114 Why are you on the beta blocker? You didn't say. High BP? Arrhythmia? As for mixing these drugs with physical activity, it's usually not a problem if your heart is ok. The only problem I'm aware of is that your heart rate is lowered by the drugs and will not come "up to speed" in response to exercise in the way you are used to. This is not what you are experiencing though - your heart rate is escalating to a higher rate than you expect.
Avatar f tn Many of us diabetics have found that eating LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) helps to control BG (Blood glucose) since it is carbohydrates that raise BG ALL carbs raise BG, eating fewer carbs help to lower BG.
11634465 tn?1421827735 Adopting a low carb, moderate protein and high fats (from natural sources) diet will help you control blood sugar and satisfy your hunger. Eliminate grains and starchy stuff, like pasta, bread, rice, potatoes, beans, and eliminate sugars. Eat non starchy veg frequently, while limiting fruits to occasional treats. Don't be shy with good fats (avocado, grass fed butter, olive oil, nuts, etc), and stay away from fake fats like margarine.
976897 tn?1379167602 A combo pill has been developed which is called the red heart pill, containing aspirin, ace inhibitor, beta blocker and statin. As much as it sounds like a great idea, and would cut costs dramatically, I have emailed them to ask a few questions because it really doesn't sound very practical. Or does it? How many people are on the same dosage of beta blockers/ace inhibitors/statins ?
Avatar f tn In my case, I get the flu shot annually and a pneumonia shot every 5 years without any adverse reactions. I am on a beta blocker, ace inhibitor and calcium channel blocker along with 2 forms of nitrates and a fenofibrate.
