Common Questions and Answers about Carb blocker medication

carb

Avatar m tn Hi, The medication's generic name is "Nebivolol". It's Brand Name is Nebilet, you may have the spelling off a little. From what I read, the drug "is a so-called vasodilating beta blocker. Thus, in contrast to traditional beta blockers, it is more patient friendly in that it maintains systemic flow and blood flow to target organs, lowers vascular resistance, and has very little, if any, metabolic adverse effects," Messerli explained.
1495281 tn?1305307348 Well it certainly was for me for awhile. I still have moments, but am on a low carb diet and I am encouraged to eat snacks between meals. Only 1 carb snacks, but between the meals and before bedtime. When I first started on synthroid I swear to you, I felt like I could just crawl in the cupboard or refrigerator and just live there. Why bother going to another room, I was just going to be back in here in a few minutes afterall.
492869 tn?1285018933 I hope you are taking Zofan with the knowledge of your beta blocker prescribing doctor. Taking an "extra beta blocker" seems to be questionable to me, unless so prescribed by an MD. Sorry I can't help on a "safe" alternative, nausea is one symptom I've been spared, and I"m thankful for that.
Avatar m tn Your concern is valid in that being on both a calcium channel blocker and a beta blocker can have risks of reducing the heart rate too low or affecting other conducting regions of the heart. However, amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker whose primary effect is more peripherally acting rather (as compared to the non-dihydropyridine CCB, i.e. diltiazem or verapamil, which are more centrally acting).
Avatar m tn After stent placement you normally get more medication than just a beta blocker (Metoprolol). You will get an anti-coagulation medicine for 1 year (dependent on the type of stent) to prevent the stent to become clotted. You will get other medication (beta blocker, aspirin, bp lowering medicin) to prevent the forming of new blockages.
Avatar m tn I was put on disopyramide although I know they can use different medications and ususally combine them with some type of beta blocker.
Avatar n tn I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped. Is this a different class of beta blocker that is safer and what (if anything) should I be concerned about? Meds are aspirin (81), protonix (40), HCTZ (25), Lisinopril (10-20) sertraline (50) and now the 6.25 carvedilol.
Avatar m tn The second cardiologist gone to, after 7 weeks of surgery, because of wanting another opinion has determined the lasix is keeping my blood pressure down for now and that I only need 20mg of simvastatin once a day. he said he would determine if a beta blocker is needed at my next visit which would be in 3 months. My surgeon at my after surgery review at six weeks said I should be on a beta blocker. My question is which is best for me considering the surgery performed on me?

Avatar f tn Are you taking any other medication? I never discovered which medication was causing my stomach problems, it was a toss up between Aspirin and beta blockers (Bisoprolol). I was prescribed a medication called Omeprazole which I believe is an acid reduction medicine. It worked real miracles and the problems all vanished. In the last few weeks I have since come off beta blockers after surgery and am still on Aspirin.
Avatar f tn My doctor just changed my medication to cardiazem does anyone know about this med?
672680 tn?1226660060 Centyl is a diuretic and Centyl-k is a diuretic with potassium. Nebilet is a beta blocker. It acts by dilating the blood vessels and thus reducing blood pressure. This drug can cause wheezing, trouble breathing and shortness of breath. People with respiratory diseases should take a beta blocker with care. The drug may aggravate their symptoms. Hope this helps. Maybe you can talk to your doctor and start another drug in its place.
Avatar f tn I used to have a terrible rapid heart rate as well as anxiety. Both were cured by addressing this health issue. A low carb diet along with medication to kill the candia, probiotics and some vitamins. Look into it. It may be your answer.
431358 tn?1204042737 Is this due to the medication? Do I need to change my Target Heart Rate because of the medication? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I do not know the "brand" names you referring to but if either is a beta blocker then it is common from one, especially when first starting, to have some fatigue and even lightheaded feelings. Shortness of breath could also be a side effect I believe. It is best to discuss the side effects with your prescribing doctor, try to be specific, for example, I feel a shortness of breath if I walk up stairs or an incline..
Avatar n tn It can take awhile for your body to adjust to a new medication, so hang in there and that floating feeling might eventually taper off. Be sure to tell your doctor though.
Avatar f tn I have seen three different doctors about my headaches and they have all told me the same thing, that I can not take the "normal" migraine medication for pain, due to the fact that I have hemiplegic migraines. They have all told me that I am to use Morhpine for pain control, which I have been on for the last five years. I use this medication when I have a flare up and do not use it if my headaches are under control.
Avatar f tn Methotrexate is an anti-cancer medication that is also effective against certain types of arthritis. Nausea is an unfortunate side effect of this medication, but most patients feel that the relief they receive from this medication is well worth the side effects. Here's a complete listing of side effects of this medication: http://www.drugs.com/sfx/methotrexate-side-effects.
Avatar f tn My son was put on this medication after meeting his primary care physician for the first time. There was blood work orders that came back within normal reference ranges. He had a weeks worth of blood pressure readings, different times of the day per her instructions. He was told to purchase an upper arm cuff for his blood pressure monitor.. He is a very active young man, Cardio and strength work 4 to 6 times weekly.
Avatar f tn This is a common compaint with (at least) Metoprolol. It's the only one I've ever taken, so I can't compare. I gained almost 45 pounds which pushed my blood sugar into the danger zone, which I'm now on a diet to lose before I have to go on Metformin for that. I have 90 days to show an improvement. My recommendation to you would be to cut nearly all carbs from your diet. I restrict myself to less than 50 a day. That, and walk. I lost 5 pounds in my frst week on this regime.
4356842 tn?1353312209 Which I have learned is being caused by the digoxin, what I would like to know is there any thing I need to know about switching medication, anything I should watch out for? I am worried about having a bad reaction to the new meds, is it common for that to happen or are the meds for svt relatively safe and give people no problems. also in your opinions what is the best meds to be on? I would just like to get some insight before my appointment.
363243 tn?1331033850 What do you do if you have a sensitivity to synthetic thyroid hormone, when a small dose is taken you also have to take a beta blocker to counteract the tachycardia, you're a poor T4 to T3 converter and you're endocrinologist doesn't want to prescribe a T3 medication because of "cardiac contraindications" so you continue feeling like crap?
Avatar m tn Mead? is that beer? bear is also a very dense carb If I drink beer I drink low carb bear.
