Avatar m tn I have recently been prescribed Amlodipine-Benaz 5/10 MG capsules for treatment of hypertension. However, my resting pulse rate has consistently been in the 90's and increasing into the 100's at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?
Avatar n tn I take AM and PM Lantus. Just started on Actos 15mg. I've started reducing my simple carbohydrates a lot. Cereals, Breads, Potatoes, Rice, high carb. veggies. Substituting low carb veggies, low carb fruits, avocadoes. In 2 weeks I've reduced night time Lantus from 25U to 10 U and BS in AM 90- low 100's. Yesterday enjoyed burger with L&T,onion, mayo on lettuce with no bun.. Today I made unbreaded baked zucchini with tomato sauce and mozz. cheese. I'm also exercising more.

Avatar f tn If one never had swollen gums after taking Diltiazem Hydrochloride Extended-release Capsules USP for years and then suddenly has swollen gums (no redness or infection) could the Diltiazem suddenly cause this after getting a "deep cleaning" of the teeth, or 'probing for pocket depths' at a dentist?

Avatar f tn Hi I have been taking Tramadol capsules 50mg for about 18 months 4 a day for degenerative Spondylolisthesis (slipped lumber discs). At first they were amazing they not only took the pain away but gave me such a wonderful feeling of well being .However as time wore on I have noticed that though they reduce the pain now only somewhat I find I am feeling terrible as a whole heap of unwanted symptoms have started creeping up on me.
Avatar n tn t already, you might want to try a low-carb diet because decreasing the carbs in your diet can help to stabilize your blood sugar. Calories still count on a low carb diet, but because you're eating a higher proportion of protein and fat, and fewer carbs, it might keep you satiated on fewer calories. That is generally how people lose weight, or keep it off, on low carb diets.
Avatar m tn I am taking prescriptions from my psychiatrist at night of one Seroquil XR 50mg tablet, and two Lithium Carb 300 mg capsules. Temazepam sometimes only gives me 4 hours of sleep. I want to get off of the Temazepam now too. Please help me. I’m wasting my life away. I’m 60 years old.
1839422 tn?1319661709 My do not come in tablet form they come in capsules so i can break it in half or anything. I am giving it the full 2 weeks and calling him. He said I could take one pill a day if I wanted. His concern is that my heart will weaken over time and heart disease funs in my family.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! There are no doctors in this community. First off, I think you need to start seeing a therapist for your depression. Depression can cause a lot of the symptoms that you describe so I think you really need to get treated for this. I would also recommend stopping all of the many supplements you are taking especially the fat burning capsules. I don't know what you mean by a "carb intolerance" as almost everything is a carb.
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.

Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar f tn My doctor reduced me to 5mg which means I have to seperate my capsules into empty capsules my self. After everything has smoothed out they have finally started helping me with the anxiety. My doctor wants me to stay on these and I am feeling pretty normal now other than mild anxiety and some anxiousness with rapid pulse that happens when I wake up and lasts until mid-morning. I have also been having trouble sleeping.
Avatar f tn This is a common compaint with (at least) Metoprolol. It's the only one I've ever taken, so I can't compare. I gained almost 45 pounds which pushed my blood sugar into the danger zone, which I'm now on a diet to lose before I have to go on Metformin for that. I have 90 days to show an improvement. My recommendation to you would be to cut nearly all carbs from your diet. I restrict myself to less than 50 a day. That, and walk. I lost 5 pounds in my frst week on this regime.
Avatar f tn I am cutting down on the dose of my beta blocker per my Doctor and I was wondering if I have to purchase a pill cutter or can I just cut it with a knife or razor? I am a little anxious because you aren't supposed to "crush or chew" these pills and I'm afraid that if I cut it.......perhaps it will be crumbly. I don't know, I am just a little nervous. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Do a blood test on her vitamin levels - she may have a vitamin b complex deficiency. Also if she is on a beta blocker, her potassium may be decreased. Is she taking a multi vitamin? I suggest she starts on one like centrum silver...she will be okay after that. Remind her that every vitamin has to be on a full stomach and never never on an empty stomach.
Avatar n tn I have been told that eating a very low carb meal for supper is the best way to achieve a consistent night - but I have found that even plain garden salads do little to check my rise. HOWEVER, last week I travelled to the UK for a conference and for the entire week I had healthy sugar levels. My bedtime, midnight, 3am and morning levels were nearly all the same (90 - 126)..... I am so confused!
