Breast pain when nursing

Common Questions and Answers about Breast pain when nursing

Avatar f tn I never had any pain or trouble. Plan on breast feeding my second. I know a lot of people who did have trouble though. Everyone is different.
Avatar f tn You sound engorged. Try a warm washcloth on your breast before you start nursing to help you let down and then ice when you're done nursing. I've heard other things too like refrigerated cabbage leaves but I know that one can actually inhibit supply in addition to helping ease engorgement.
374593 tn?1257879950 So i am 29 weeks pregnant, and have had an embarrassing pregnancy symptom the last few weeks - breast leakage- esp out of one of my breasts.. anyhow i just bought some nursing pads today.. But my question is does breast size change much from this point of pregnancy as compared to after pregnancy when breastfeeding? I want to have everything i can in order before our little girl gets here, but not sure what size nursing bra to get - the same size i am now/ bigger/smaller?
Avatar n tn I started having breast pain on the left side while nursing my second child. My breast seemed to not be expressing the milk well--just one or two streams. I did all the treatments for clogged milk ducts/mastitis, but nothing really helped. The pain would come and go, but my breast never expressed like it had with my first baby. My left breast became noticably larger than my right. I thought the pain and swelling would go away after I stopped nursing/pumping.
503960 tn?1399929252 Does she have a deep latch, is she biting you? Have you seen a lactation consultant When she is done nursing are your nipples white? If so it could be Raynauds. It is pretty painful. I had it with dd. I think when she was about 3 months old it got better. But she was also a poor feeder and I had to pump in the beginning. It was still painful if I was cold or stressed, but it was tolerable. The first few months were terrible. Go to kelly mom .
10007886 tn?1413287174 I woke up last night practically screaming because I hit my breast and the pain was unbearable! Now this pain is back, just putting a shirt on is killing my breasts & nipples. My breasts started leaking this week, could this be why they hurt so bad?
Avatar f tn Ftm and my son was born two days ago, he loves to eat and breast feeds all the time. I get these clearish bumps on the nipple after he is finished and they are really tender. What can I do to ease the pain and bumps and it still be ok for him to eat?
Avatar m tn I went through earlier on when my son was born. The pain will pass on its own.Until then she can use Lanolin and any other nipple ointment for nursing moms.U can find it in walmart and other drug stores. Also make sure she's not using soap on her breast while showering.Soap can cause the nipples to be dry and irritated. All ot takes is warm water to rinse them off.And It may be hard for now but she should not stop nursing on that side.
1453524 tn?1295627371 Has anyone here had immense breast pain along with the jumble of other symptoms. It almost feels like after giving birth?
Avatar f tn had any of you ladies had issues breast feeding or is haveing issues breast feeding. My little girl is having prombles starting or latching on and she gets her self so mad that she just has a fit.
676912 tn?1332812551 t be surprised if her nursing session are even shorter after a year - I have read that when nursing a toddler, the milk is smaller in amount but is denser in fat and nutrition - made for the quick snacks that busy toddlers do - so don't panic that you are losing your supply. And, if your supply does decrease some, you can supplement with milk. Finally, about the sippy cup - my son did the exact same thing until someone suggested I try the Nuk EZ cup.
Avatar f tn Continue nursing, the only time you need to stop nursing is when there is a visible abscess on the nipple and even then you are instructed to pump and dump until the infection clears but to continue nursing on the other side. Nursing on a breast with mastitis is one of the best things you can do, it helps to draw out the infection and keeps the supply up.
349463 tn?1333571576 I'm wondering when I should get nursing gowns, bras, and tops? I know I'll need at least one gown for the hospital and a bra. I'llbe packing my bag a month early the first week of August (since ds was born ta 37 weeks). Anyhow when are you guys going to be shopping for this stuff and how much do you buy? Should I stock up before the baby is born or go after?
Avatar f tn Hot pack or cold ice pac to release the pain. Before nursing and after nursing . If you don't want to breastfeed call your doctor its a shot he will inject into your boobs to dry the milk up. It doesnt hurt so its an option.
287071 tn?1365192513 On a scale of stop now to wean and stop in the next few weeks - how bad is nursing when you're pregnant? My son just turned 1 on Wednesday and Tuesday I had a BFP... I had planned on weaning when my son turned 1 but I wasn't going to rush it. Now that I know I'm pregnant I am wondering how quickly I should stop nursing. I've dropped a feeding and am only nursing/pumping 3x a day but am really full and in pain between!
Avatar f tn I didn't have pain and I don't get pain. But after nursing my oldest daughter my right is a whole cup size bigger. I was hoping it would correct itself once we were done nursing. Or once my youngest nursed. No such luck....almost 11 years (sept my oldest will be 11) later and still lop sided lol. It was probably my fault though....I didn' know when I was nursing my first, that you always start on the same side you left off on.
Avatar f tn Some women have very sensitive nipples and that causes pain, also when they latch for long periods of time.
210400 tn?1325380570 Ok so I was just nursing Marissa and when she stopped, I noticed my nipple is bleeding. She didn't bite me and it doesn't hurt (yet). I'm not sure what to think?
Avatar f tn I'm going to be honest with you, I think you should be able to breast feed your child anywhere, BUT find a private, quite spot where the baby and you will not be disturbed and not have the breast exposed for all to see. Breast feeding is necessaryand bonding with your infant, but if done outside of the home, it should be done privately, tastefully and appropriately and not have a breast exposed. Many places, store, etc, have rest rooms, nursing area, etc.
Avatar f tn I'm 32 weeks, first pregnancy. I wasn't sure when it's the best time to buy nursing bras. I mean I don't know how bigger by breast will get when I deliver the baby. I was told breast gets larger closer to due date. Should I wait until the baby is born or get some now. When did you buy yours?
Avatar f tn I have been breast feeding my daughter for 4 months and supplementing for 2 months (pediatrician recommended). She's been having teething pains this past week, but today she actually rejected my breast. I kept calm and made a formula bottle which she grabbed and sucked down. Pain or not she's never rejected the breast. It really has me upset thinking she may be starting to wean herself. The other feedings were fine so I'm probably overreacting.
Avatar f tn when first born they dont need very much at a time when it comes to colostrum because of all the nutrition in it ... my son ate like every hr to two hrs when i breast fed ..
Avatar f tn has pumping been enough for your baby's food demand? Has your supply weakened because you only pump? My baby is about a week old and I've been pumping and giving formula as I still don't have a full suply. I want to do baby to breast but he doesn't take my nipple as its 'short' it doesn't reach the back of his mouth so he's not sure what to do with it.
Avatar n tn There are many possible explanations for breast pain. The most common cause of breast discomfort is cyclical pain or hormone related pain. Breast cancer is not usually painful. Without evaluation, we cannot speculate on what might be causing your pain. As your pain is not really breast specific, you may want to revisit this with your doctor if it continues.
Avatar f tn It started in the last few months of nursing my first child, continued after nursing, during my second pregnancy and again during nursing my second child. A few months back upon weening my second child the pain in this area became much more intense and then returned to the "normal" level upon completion of nursing. I have had two ultrasounds...the first was inconclusive as I was still nursing and all they could see were the milk ducts, however, in the second they fould a cyst.
353148 tn?1293061164 We had been doing so good and exclusivley BF, but the past couple weeks my baby has been getting fussy. She has started acting like she is fighting my breast when nursing and keeps spitting it out. Yesterday we went out and I pumped into a bottle to take w/ me and when she started to act like she was fighting w/ my breast again I gave her the bottle to see if she would do better and she did just fine. When we got home I nursed her w/ no problems and had no problems all night.
