Common Questions and Answers about Breast pain when nursing

Avatar f tn I have a Boppy which I love. I've gotten one for all 3 of my babies. It helps support the baby weather breast or bottle feeding. My MIL likes it bcuz it gives her better support so she can hold the babies better. When the baby is older (4wks+) when they like being up a lil U can use a blanket over it forming a hammock that they can lay on (don't leave them alone of course as they can slide down). Also when they are 3months+ you can use it w tummy time.
Avatar n tn ) I went through this with Tristan (still do sometimes)When he bites, I push his face into the breast and he lets go, he rarely bites now. Also, sometimes he bites when he is distracted or just not hungry. If that is the case, I duck into the bedroom to feed or ask my 3 year old to play quietly somewhere else. If you think it is teething pain, have you tried the teething tablets? They do not numb the mouth, so it may offer some relief for him so he can eat peacefully.
1386655 tn?1452100656 I tuck my belly band under the bra, makes it pretty comfortable. When I'm home I usually just hang around in the sports bra type of nursing bra, which is more comfortable.
Avatar n tn Alcohol leaves your system at the rate of 1 drink per hour, 1 beer, wine or shot so if you drink your last beer at 1am by 7am you are legally sober. This is an approximation obviously but what I go by when nursing. Yes some LC's still recommend a beer to boost supply, it is the brewery yeast that seems to do it which is also in "lactation cookies". Don't let anyone make you feel guilty forgoing out and having a good time.
Avatar f tn Try a warm washcloth on your breast before you start nursing to help you let down and then ice when you're done nursing. I've heard other things too like refrigerated cabbage leaves but I know that one can actually inhibit supply in addition to helping ease engorgement.
1453524 tn?1295630971 Has anyone here had immense breast pain along with the jumble of other symptoms. It almost feels like after giving birth?
280369 tn?1316705641 I have been pumping my right and nursing him on the left only to draw it out. Warm compresses and hot showers feel so good. No nipple pain or pain when BFing. It's frustrating! I hope it goes away soon. I have a bad fever, and just feel like the flu. No fun! I can't function.
Avatar n tn I went off all caffeine products for one year and the pain stopped and I have not had any problems with breast pain since....unless I drink too much caffeine, in which case I simply cut caffeine for a week or so until it gets better. My friend had the same type of discharge from her breasts and it was nothing....but it is always best to get the OB-GYN's advice.
Avatar f tn With my son I didn't get one because I thought a few ordinary pillows should do the job, and I could only breastfeed for 2 months, but I wish I had one to avoid the back pain when everything else hurts:) Could you recommend any good nursing pillows that I don't have to spend a lot of money on in case I end up using it only for a couple of weeks?
Avatar f tn when first born they dont need very much at a time when it comes to colostrum because of all the nutrition in it ... my son ate like every hr to two hrs when i breast fed ..
Avatar f tn bad when she initially latches then the pain goes away right away. I had a lactation/nurse come out and weigh her and talk about breast feeding. I nursed her for an hour and a half and she got 3.5 oz according to the weigh in. So this lady said that it was okay that she was nursing that long and I think its horrible. I cant go get something to.eat or drink, cant use the bathroom, cant get back to sleep in the middle of the night, it makes me want to give up but I wont.
Avatar n tn I also noticed that my left breast was hanging a lower than my right breast. The pain is mainly in my left breast..This really concerned me and when i mentioned it to my obgyn at my 6 week check up he didnt do anything about this problem...He didnt even check my breast. Not too happy about this but what else can i do ????? Is this normal ???
Avatar n tn I urge you to NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS WHILE YOU ARE NURSING!!! MANY MEDS CAN GO RIGHT INTO THE BREAST MILK, AND GREATLY PUT YOUR NURSING BABY AT GREAT RISK FOR DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS!!!!! I think you are a wonderful mom, to think about these things, and to ask the tough questions!!! 599813 tn?1219646818 for which I taken some homoeopathic medicine and resolved in 2 day then it occur two to three times all time resolved in one to two days with homoeopathic medicine, but with this or after these episode I developed intermittent shooting pain in my right breast which is unbearable. The pain occurs mainly on empty breast and during feeding.
Avatar f tn Pitocin induction. No epidural or pain meds. I am taking ibuprofen for pain (400-800mg every 6 hours as needed. I am taking 800mg 2-3 times a day) She is nursing well. My milk came in Monday. She had a doctor appt Wednesday and she has already gained almost 2 ounces and grown 1/2 and inch. We are having some latch on problems (she consistently turns JUST as her mouth gets to my breast, messing up alignment, especially on the right side).
127529 tn?1331844380 Yesterday I started to get some pain in my left breast, kind of sore, like when I have had a blocked duct, so I did all the usual stuff; hot compress, massage, nursed and pumped and it felt a little better before I went to bed but then it actually woke me up during the night as it was so painful and I had to take some tylenol to ease it and get back to sleep.
Avatar n tn 5, but my normal temp is 97). When I expressed milk, I noticed that from one duct (on the side of my breast where the pain was), bloody strings were occasionally coming out. Pinkish/orange in color. My fever was gone by the next day, and now (3 days after I noticed the pain), I feel pretty much back to normal, although still tired. However, I can still express a bit of blood/pus from that duct on occasion (not every time I try, but sometimes). 1.
Avatar f tn Ok so ik underwire and nursing is bad bc it can cause problems like blockage ect. So my question is I am even bigger ashtray this pregnancy than I ended last one. 118074 tn?1228332603 But for my baby Gavin, he's been breast fed exclusively and when we tried to give him formula last weekend, he took a couple zips and start screaming like he is in pain then he started to gag and threw up. His lil' lips also got swollen. It was a very scary episode for us. Are you nursing?
Avatar n tn Interestingly enough, as a nursing Mom of several kids (almost six years nursing), it was always this left breast that had the breast infections and problems. What could it be now? Please ANYONE with ideas, I'd love to just chat about this a bit. THANK YOU!
Avatar f tn Fast-forward to Thursday, I was doing some stretches on my stomach and felt a little pain in my breast when I lay on my tummy (I lay on my tummy all of the time, so this was strangely new). Now today I'm noticing an ache in the same spot. It just comes and I notice it, and it fades. I'm also having my period, so that could be part of it. Is it normal for scar tissue to ache like that? Is it probably just related to my period? I don't know why I'm a little freaked about this.
Avatar n tn Hi heather1527, I started using Progesterone cream BECAUSE of breast pain, so I know it didn't cause my pain. I got pregnant w/ baby #7 right away, and so continued on the cream. The breast pain (left only) continued, but did not worsen. Now, that baby is almost 11 mos, and the pain is wearing on me. I feel a little relief during nursing, possibly since pressure is alleviated. I, too, worry about breast cancer. I've not gone for a check or ultrasound - I'm too afraid!
280369 tn?1316705641 Another quick tip try nursing him so that his nose is pointing at the sorest bit of your breast, for me it worked like a treat even though I sometimes had to lie or have the baby in an odd position to achieve it.
Avatar f tn Second pregnancy and real bad breast pain and nipple pain what can I do to ease the pain without taking pain medication didnt have much pain like this my first pregnancy
Avatar n tn Hi all, I am currently 11 weeks 2 days and was wondering when those who are preggers noticed that their breast pain eased up a little bit. I heard that once you near the second trimester it does start to ease up a bit. Is this true??? I am so tired of being sore.
349463 tn?1333575176 She screams and thrashes her head around like I was putting dirt in her mouth. It's horrible I just want to cry when she does that. I'll try nursing her when she's asleep tonight and see what happens.
6088943 tn?1381728810 So...when I tried nursing my first child, the pain was almost unbearable! And pumping I think was even worse. I only lasted 3 weeks, mostly also cause she would never latch on properly. But this time around, I'm determined to nurse for at least 6 months. What I'm wondering is, does the pain ever get any better or even go away?? My nipples were SO sore I would be in tears! But I want to do it for her health and all the benefits that come along with breast milk vs formula.
