Avatar f tn I've recently started going to the gym and dont really know what to do besides the elliptical or treadmill. What are some machine's And workouts you would suggest to lose weight and get strong? I'm a 20 year old girl. Thank you!
Avatar f tn If you do cardio and then strength you won't have the strength to do the weights as you will be tired from the cardio. Now try the following routine! The Peak 8 routine it will quickly raise your heart rate 8 times for very short bursts, with a cooling down period in between. Ideally you’ll be sprinting or cycling full throttle for 30 seconds with a 90 second cool down in between each outburst. This is the fastest way to lose fat and build muscle in the body.
Avatar f tn I encourage you to visit Dr Mercola’s site to learn more about Peak 8 fitness because I personally feel that it is one of the best ways to exercise, especially considering the speed at which you can lose fat and build muscle. I highly recommend you read this article and watch the videos on the page.
Avatar n tn but you didn't state what the diet menu is and the calories. at the gym do weights first and cardio last. Doing cardio first you become tired and then it's harder to do proper weight training. Try the following routine! The Peak 8 routine it will quickly raise your heart rate 8 times for very short bursts, with a cooling down period in between. Ideally you’ll be sprinting or cycling full throttle for 30 seconds with a 90 second cool down in between each outburst.
Avatar f tn I also thought maybe I wasn't eating enough close to gym time, so I have been making it a point to eat a good snack (tuna and crackers, banana, yogurt with granola, etc.) at least 30 minutes before my workout. Although the episodes aren't as frequent as when I wasn't eating anything before the gym, I am still experiencing these "near pass out" episodes about once a month. The only thing that helps when an episode occurs is laying flat on the ground for about 5-10 minutes.
900662 tn?1469393905 All my yelling is to get the tv turned off, or at least the volume turned down! LOL Seriously, John, water exercise is one of the best things you can do. you don't overheat. you don't risk injuring yourself with a fall as long as you don't drown. You have minimal impact on your joints. you can get in a really good cardio workout in the pool. You don't have to just swim laps - try some other exercises and jogging is very good.

Avatar n tn , you should go for weight-training and moderate cardio. There are so many studies out there claiming to have found the best way to gain mass, strength, lose weight, or increase stamina. But there are always contradictory studies suggesting that they are wrong and that another way is better. So, my advice is to stick to the basics: When you lift, your muscles need time to recover. You have to feed them the proper nutrients for them to grow.
Avatar n tn what's the best(in terms of burning calories or any other criteria you choose) cardio machine out there. here's what's at my gym,,,, 1...recumbant bike 2...upright bike 3...treadmill 4...eliptical trainer with moving handles 5...eliptical trainer with a skiing motion 6...eliptical trainer with stationary handles there are also a stairmaster, climber, and rower with blade resistance,,,,that i don't intend to use.
Avatar f tn Ashley, I joined a gym (YMCA) and it made me pack on the pounds, last year. Interestingly, my brother had the same exact experience. He was also working out at at gym and he lost his attractive physique. I am a healthy, slim weight to begin with. But I joined the gym to firm up and feel better with more energy, and more muscle definition. Let me tell you, I looked like hell after going to that gym 4x weekly. I looked like a big ugly thick brick.
242143 tn?1215473908 i was also wondering the same thing. last month i went to the gym but did not do a full workout like i usually do and tried not to do any equipment that would put strain on me.
1949068 tn?1449632119 You can google specific moves to train your trouble areas and then do some cardio. In my opinion the stair climber is the best cardio machine you can use but it isn't easy (at least not for me) try 15 mins at like level 5. If that's not too difficult you can add on time or increase the level. I would aim for an hour to an hour and a half workout 3 times a week for a couple weeks before increasing. See how your body feels.
Avatar f tn It's important to first do your strength training first and then the cardio. last! The cardio will only take 20 minutes. Check the link that I posted above. Get the OK from your doctor first!
362119 tn?1223141536 I asked my doc about it in my pre-pregnancy check-up and he said as long as I don't push myself to work out harder than I did before I was pregnant it is okay. I saw a woman at the gym the other day, she ran 8 miles and looked to be about 6 or 7 months preggo. So, just make sure you don't get overly exhausted or overly hot (this diverts blood away from the baby and to your skin to help cool your body) and you should be fine.
8793709 tn?1409597660 Iv informed the people at the gym and they've told me to carry on with what I do ! But you do what feels best for u , I also do spinning classes , swimming is good to tho !!
Avatar m tn I will slowly ease into more weight lifting as the fat to muscle ratio becomes more even. The reason I chose this workout is because it targets the biggest muscle areas on the body (Chest, Back, Legs, and abs). Once I lose more fat, i will start branching off into smaller subsets of each category and target other muscles more specifically. My questions is: Is this a good workout to start off with?
Avatar f tn I've heard a few different opinions on what time of day is best to workout but honestly, the best time to workout is whenever you have time to fit it into your schedule! Personally I workout at all different times. Sometimes I have time to kill in the morning and have enough energy to get in at least a half hour of some kind of cardio (it's rare though because I am not a morning person AT ALL either lol) Other times I do it late at night.

Avatar n tn He wasn't able to get that surgery, but found a way back so that he's now at the gym five days a week. Of all of us, he's the one I'd talk to about rehabbing a back, though I don't think your problem is the one he had. You might try private messaging him about how he did it.
Avatar m tn The Best Way to Catch Your Breath during a Workout, According to Science Exercise form is important for increasing your gains and protecting yourself from injury. But when’s the last time you thought about the way you hold yourself between sets? In a recent study, scientists from Western Washington University set out to find out what works best when you’re gasping for air: standing up with your hands behind your head or bending over with your hands on your knees.
Avatar f tn Elliptical is always more exertive than any other form of cardio in the gym, so these symptoms can occur in some individuals till you adapt with it. You are also on medications and you can have side effects. Eat healthy and avoid exercises which are uncomfortable. Take care!
Avatar m tn Especially when I know I feel the best after a good workout, it's hard to consider the fact that I'll never be able to work out to my potential. I love the stress relief and health benefits a good workout provides and I really hope we can all find a solution to this.
Avatar m tn Drink a lot of water throughout the day (this prompts metabolism and regular bowel movements - which help cleanse the body) and if you don't want to gym or do home workouts, just walk everyday. At least 10,000+ steps.
1483550 tn?1307289364 I have been keeping a pretty set routine of going to the gym in the evening. I was wondering when the best time for eating dinner would be?? Before or after??? So far I have been eating a decent size meal before working out and having a piece of fruit for a snack afterward. About a half hour after my work out my stomach demands food with lots of grumbling.... It's quite annoying! Is this good or not so much? Any advise???
Avatar f tn I tried some yoga for the first time yesterday. At the gym I've been doing the cross-country program on the treadmill where it goes fairly high up on the incline, to where I get pretty winded and really work up a good heartrate and sweat. I've done the eliptical a few times, but I find it hard to do it for longer than about 10 min. I've added in the arm exercise 'bike' now and the stretching machine. And I've been gradually increasing the weigh on the nautilus/free weight equipment.
Avatar n tn workout to maintain muscle mass, eat well to loose fat. Umbillical stomach fat is connected with high stress levels, elevated cortisol levels, maybe low androgens too. Supraspinal and Suprailiac fat is connected with to much Carb intake and food's you are intolerant. A MRT intolerancy test can give you some instructions.
958098 tn?1246812818 You should not go to Gym at your age. Teenage is the best time for sports, if possible you can join swimming. If not you try doing skipping, jogging in the neighbourhood, floor exercises, yoga, basketball etc. Calculate your BMI and also according to your age prepare a neat diet chart and stick to that. Do not consume fried food, desserts, choclates, icecreams, fast foods, etc. Exercise combined with Diet will do wonders on you. Take care!
159619 tn?1538184537 The recommended Cardio activity to increase cardiovascular health is at least 20 mins of exercise (such as walking, jogging, running, outside, on a treadmill, elliptical, you get the picture) 3 days a week.. Avatar n tn I had already worked out my BMR for my age/weight/height and it came out at 1621 cals per day The HRM was set by my fitness instructor at the gym for cardio/fat loss - I am 46 and my HR is set at 135 at the moment. Since last Friday (22nd) I went up to 1400 cals and will increase it again after 10 days or so.
Avatar n tn For the second time, i believe it was b/c i ate the prezzle with the icying drink at the movie theater. Probably those food can not go together, since both have tons of carb. in it. Well, as for now, i still don't know the reasons, though when that happen, I normally go to the bathroom and do whatever, then run back to my bed and put on the green oil and rub it on my stomach. It felt better all the time.
