Avatar f tn A little over month ago I believe that I was fighting off a virus which had me feeling fatigued and feverish. Once that went away my whole body has been sore and weak on and off for a month. My calves and quads have been very sore, and so has my arms, mainly my forearms. I did go to the doctor last week for pain that has been radiating to the top of my head and the neck x-ray showed that i have narrowing of C3-C4, and was given muscle relaxants to help that heal.
Avatar n tn My left shoulder (including the area where the the bicep tendon attaches to the pectoral muscles) has been hurt for almost two years. I injured the muscle or tendon (not sure) while I was bench pressing. I immediately stopped lifting and began to take anti-inflammatory drugs and ice my shoulder regularly. After six or seven months of inactivity and rest, I felt no better. I saw a chiropractor regularly for two months. Again, no improvement.

522699 tn?1250594316 We were able to work this into a cardio workout by doing 10 repititions of triceps and then doing 10 repititions of quads, then immediately back to 10 repititions of triceps and then back to quads until 3 sets were completed. There are a multitude of home workout videos that can be found on youtube ... just search and find something you like. Here's a few as examples. Avatar n tn Mostly depends on preference. Just because you're on the bike for an hour doesn't mean you're getting a good workout. This question also depends greatly on your age and condition. Also, is cardio all you care about, or are you looking to shed a few lbs? The two are NOT synonymous.
Avatar n tn Try to do 15-20 repetitions. Try standing hamstrings curls for a workout that can be done at home or the gym. At the gym, use the cable pulleys for resistance, but at home, use a circular resistance band that can loop around your ankle and anchor to a stable object in front of you. Stand with your feet at hip-width, then bend the banded leg at the knee, raising your foot behind you toward your buttocks. Thighs and hips remain stationary throughout the movement, with back straight.
16504142 tn?1448592933 I would only say in response to Gymdandee that my experience with surgeons is that the only thing they really know anything about is how to maximize their income. If you're lucky, they correctly diagnose you and correctly perform the surgery, but again, that's just luck. But what they really don't know much about is rehabilitation -- that's what physical therapists specialize in.
Avatar f tn You truly need to do both for the best results...but NOT necessarily both every day (I only suggested that because you sound so motivated and like you have the time and energy to do it, lol). Also, I want to caution you on stretching BEFORE you exercise. There is now more evidence that stretching before exercise is more harmful than beneficial. Current recommendations are to do a lighter version of what your workout will be.
Avatar f tn Tuesday-assuning that you have joined a gym or are already a member of one do a strength workout (on machines for now). Do exercises for chest, biceps, triceps, and core. Keep the workout between 30-45 minutes to start. Rest 30 seconds to 1 minute between sets. Do 2 sets of 15 repetitions for each exercise then go home! No cardio on this day Wednesday-do some kind of cardiovascular exercise for 20-30 minutes. If you walked on Monday swim, cycle, elliptical, stepper this day.
Avatar n tn Sometimes it hurts after a hard workout, sometimes it hurts when I'm just sitting around. I have looked for patterns to try to self-diagnose, such as hydration levels, with no success. The pain often begins in my knee as a dull ache that can be temporarily alleviated by putting pressure on the patellar tendon, but then will radiate into either my hip or ankle. NSAID's seem to help sometimes. However, today I woke up with excruciating pain in my quad.
Avatar m tn Get into using Gymnastic Rings for an amazing and challenging upper body workout. You can strap them up pretty much anywhere that is strong enough to hold your body weight. I'm personally just getting into using rings and love it, and although I heavy weight lift I am finding it even more challenging!
Avatar f tn Rotate between different cardio machines each day to ensure that your body in constantly adapting to different stimuli. Divide you weight workout into 3 groups. For example you might do chest, biceps, and triceps on Monday. Back and shoulders on Wednesday and then finish the week out with quads, hamstrings, and calves on Friday. Be sure to include core work in each workout including cardio days. Keep your workouts to 30-40 minutes daily for cardio and strength.
Avatar f tn Lunges are one of the best exercises for the butt. There are numerous variations of lunges, with some of them targeting the butt more than others. Walking lunges, or better yet, lunging up hill is extremely effective at stimulating the glute muscles. Lunging onto a step and back is also a good option. Concentrate on pushing through your heels to activate the glute muscles.
486038 tn?1300066967 (don't feel to great either) I can't tell if it was all those weird excersises (my legs wouldn't cooperate, they shook for every one) or that hot heat pad that I laid on for 10 -15 minutes. Should I ask them to nix the heat next time? They were trying to help my back, which was acting up after all those legs excercises. I know hot showers are bad for me, they make me feel a lot worse, but I never really thought about heat pads, I suppose heat is heat, right? So, what am I to say...
Avatar f tn The aerobic exercise raises your core temperature and prepares you for the workout. Work most of your major muscle groups by performing bear crawls. Begin on your hands and knees with your back straight and abs contracted. Lift your right hand and knee off the floor and move them forward simultaneously, and slowly. After your hand and knee return to the floor, use them to pull yourself forward and then repeat the move with your left hand and knee. google bear crawls to see how it's done.
Avatar m tn To get an accurate assessment of these lesions you should go and have your doctor take a look and, if there is any concern, he/she should take a culture or PCR test for herpes (fyi, do not need blisters of open sores for a herpes culture or PCR, the specimen can be taken with a swab from the surface of a lesion/sore). In all probability however this is not herpes. Your vaginal sex was condom protected and that the condom did not cover your entire penis does not change that.
Avatar n tn I'm hoping you can shed some light on what I might be dealing with. I am a healthy 29 year old female. Don't smoke, don't drink and workout at a gym 3-5 times a week. In 1996, the tendons in my wrists became very sore. It hurt to bend my wrists. No swelling, no redness. Just pain. This went on for about 3 weeks before I went to the doctor. X-rays were normal; blood showed some inflammation. I was told to take Advil and sent on my way.
Avatar f tn I have not overcome my fear, but am now trying to avoid exercising in heat by scheduling my exercise for the coolest part of the day.
Avatar f tn If the above treatment plan does not work, would you suggest lateral release as the last resort? I'm not sure if it would be the best option for my above issues. The articles that I have read say it seems to work best with people with patellar tilt and no instability. I do not think I have instability, but I am not sure how to tell. I don't want to go through multiple surgeries for sure. I just want to be able to workout and be as active as I used to be.
Avatar n tn try a cal/mag supplement to help the fusion stay strong throughout the bones strength training and proprioception work (offset, uneven surface work w stability, rebound) ..rice technique post W/O train 3 set for quads light weight with gradual increase every 2 weeks to a 20 rep/ to set completion...keep a workout and pain log.. a nutrition journal is an added plus with higher protein yield, mod fat intake and lower carb intake under a set point diet... I'm Lee...
Avatar f tn However, I could not stay on it for long as it causes other side effects. I was tested for thyroid and heart problems; all normal. After a year of no help and things getting worse (weight around 185lbs); I switched doctors. The new doctor treated me for thyroid problems even though my tests were normal. In addition, I received proper treatment by accident for the fluid retention problem. I went in with bronchitis and got a steroid shot.
Avatar n tn Such as walking, jogging, swimming, aerobic dancing, yoga. Yoga is the best exercise for body shape; swimming is the best exercise for burning fat. Everyday exercise is not really effective in weight decrease, and it is really tired!! Pick up 3 to 4 times wkly, and ea time try to exercise at least an hour and half, 3 hrs is much better, except if you choose cardio dance. Combine other exercise, like slow walking, after an hour and half cardio dance.
Avatar m tn i do notice when inspecting my form on squats generally with a shoulder width stance and straight feet my knees will do this very slight thing where they kind of move apart and come back to original when i return to a standing position not tons of movment but it is there. i am fairly sure my hamstrings are stronger than my quads i can feel my quads failing first when sprinting the portion of the stride where you pull your leg forward is generally the weak point when my legs get fatigued.
98010 tn?1305903335 Some days I dont feel as I have eating much - not on purpose just how the day as gone. Its so hard to know what to do for best cos I always think I need to cut down more but maybe with what you said I need to think about adding.
