armour thyroid new formulation side effects

hey guys thanks for this post, I just started my thyroid medication for the first time yesterday. told my Dr. to give me armour...so he did seeing that I had the signs and symptoms, etc.... but I dont know if its old or new armour-- when I went to the pharmacy they only had 0.

I too experienced emergency side effects from the new formula. I have been taking Armour for 2 yrs. I recently had my dosage and precripion renewed. For 2 weeks I had palpatations, confusion, LOW CONCENTRATION level of thinking, extreme cold extremities and staying awake all night, even with sleep meds. I went to the Dr where my thyroid levels had went from .1 to 9.4. I had abnormal conduction on my ekg and BP was 160/110.

How can I tell if I have the "old" or the "new" formulation of Armour thyroid?

I have been on Armour Thyroid for about 5 years now. It took about 1 year to get stable after RAI treatment. About a year ago, I started noticing changes in my health. Severe fatigue, difficulty concentrating, constipation, water retention, depression, weight gain, severly dry eyes, dry skin, etc. I just now found out that Armour has been reformulated. I have been so sick and busy trying to hold down a full-time job and raise 2 children that I haven't even had time to do any research.

Anyone else have any side effects from the new Armour? I have had an extremely fast heart rate at night (140) weight gain, and more recently... elevated blood presure and a slow (50) irregular heart rate at my doctor's visit on Thursday. After experiencing the fast heart rate a few times, I mixed up the Armour, making sure I took mostly old formulsa verses new formula and that seemed to help. I have both formulas, as I stocked up on it by renewing every 23 days instead of every 30 days.

Hi I noticed a lot of comments on the "New" formulation of the Armour Thyroid tablets. I never got pills from my pharmacy with the "A" I swear all of mine were blank with no logo. I noticed this last batch has the "A" logo, is whiter and does not split in half well at all. Were there Armour tablets with no logo before? I am so confused and upset by this whole problem with this medication. I feel like buying a pig farm and learning how to make the stuff myself.

You may have a point there in regards to the new Armour.

Hi.. I was on Armour for over year until the "new junk" came out.. I am now on the Synthroid with Cytomel and doing great. When I first had my TT last year, I tried the Synthroid without the Cytomel and sis terribly.. now that I added the T3.. its working good. I feel better now than I have in a very long time!! Even on the Armour! Hope this helps!

May not be available for along time,who knows??? We were not doing well on the new formulation of Armour( weird HYPO symptoms and blood work off after our last refill) anyway and had already switched to Naturethroid 5 weeks ago. However, they are having supply/demand issues and it is also hard to find. They will have supplies filled in aprox. 90 days. You can have compounded dessicated in your MG to hold you over until then. Naturethroid is working great here. You should try it when you can.

Post the free T3 / 4 ranges used as they very lab to lab. It is typical for Armour and any other dessicated pig thyroid to have the FT3 higher than the FT4 since the ratio of T3 to T4 in pigs is higher than in humans. Never the less, most people find a level that they feel good with after a while. #'s aside, what really matters is is symptoms went away or not. Note: This new Armour formulation (since '09) does not work as well as the original for some people.

I read something similar on another thyroid board. But one person called a sales rep at Armour and they posted back that it wasn't true. So who knows, right! I personally don't have any experience with other NDT's but from memory of their posts some are on Naturethroid and Thyroid Gold. I am sure there are others...... This came from your pharmacist or the pharmacist assistant? Keep me updated!

Are you happy with the new Armour formulation? I guess they changed their formulation or something along thos lines and thats why there is a shortage. A lot of us have switched to other natural brands such as Westhroid and Naturethroid.

Because the new formulation of Armour Thyroid does not work, have many tried the natural Iodoral?

Just ready your thread and finally understand why I was having a problem taking Armour sublingually. I started to split the pill and it does dissolve faster that way. SInce I'm new to Armour can you tell me if it has side effects such as problems with your eyes and chest tightness? These started once I began Armour so just wondered if they were side effects or just a coincidence.

Most people needed their dose adjusted with the new formulation of Armour depending on when you actually got the new formulation. Many went hypo on their same dose, and reported strange symptoms. This is an important bit of info, since if you did not increase the dose you may have been slowly going hypo for months on the 'new' Armour with out suspecting it as the cause.

All patients DO know is that all-too-many of them are seeing their hypothyroidism return with the new Erfa Thyroid.

I have been reading everyone post. And from what I gather, this Levorthyroxine has very bad side effects. I am very nervous about taking anything. Please someone give me some encouragment. I havent even started taking it yet, I just got the call that they were calling it in. Also it seems to me that most people are on 25mg...my dr called in 75mg!!

I've had Hashimoto's hypothyroidism for 35 years. My medication is Armour Thyroid, which was working for me, until recent change in formulation. Recently had TSH tested, and I was high on the range. Meaning, the higher the number, the lower your thyroid function. My test showed 6.1. Physician wants me to wait 3 full months to be retested and has increased my dosage by 15mg (1/4 grain). I've been on this increase of dosage since 4/15/10.

Yes, you have to be careful with these endos, as a lot of them specialize in diabetes....not thyroid disease. I recently fired one that undertreated me and mistreated me for 2 yrs. My new endo is awesome and boy did i get a good education on my first visit with him.
