Armour thyroid osteoporosis

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid osteoporosis

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn I've been taking Armour thyroid for many years after a complete thyroidectomy. last week I saw yet another endocrinologist at the insistence of my new PCP. I do not have the results of labs done last week. Endo doc told me that low TSH causes osteoporosis. (I have had that for years.), and also causes atrial fibrillation. I wondered how much truth there is to her statements. She also stated that she hated Armour thyroid and that it smelled "like a PIG!".
Avatar f tn I have had osteoporosis for about 10 years. I currently take Armour Thyroid. Doctors continue to want to "fix" my low TSH.
Avatar n tn osteoporosis. Since being on Synthroid for decades has been linked to osteoporosis, I further postulize that high serum levels of rT3 disrupt all metabolic processes including the routine making and replacement of bone cells. Here's the glitch in discovery of the truth: It is unethical to shut a subjects thyroid down and feed them rT3 only. I am free to do this on my own and feel healthier with TSH (0.02 uIU/ml), rT3 (results pending), and T4 (0/2 ng/dL) well below the normal limits.
Avatar m tn He was actually pleased with the T4 results but that is lower than they were when my fine older doc diagnosed me 40 years ago with lower than I need based on symptoms. I have been having low thyroid sysmptoms on my Armour thyroid that has been reformulated. So I requested Nature-throid and was surprised that he actually gave it to me. He really wants me on Synthyroid but in order for my to feel like myself my T4 has to be around 15 which is slightly over the range.
Avatar n tn 8, Thryoglobulin antibody 38.7 (High). Doc put me on 60 mg of Armour thyroid and increase every three months. I have taken 240 mg for 1 1/2 years. She did another blood test in Oct 2007. Results: TSH <0.004 (Low), T3 271 (High), T4 9.3, Thyroglobulin antibody 52.0 (High). She kept me on 240 mg Armour thyroid. (I had a hysterectomy in 13 years ago at age 29) I am just wondering if the shift in test results are a concern and what they mean.
895308 tn?1304340982 Since starting Armour thyroid for the last 4 months or so, I have noticed a need to go down in the levels of Wellbutrin I was taking. I began to get insomnia and/or heart racing at nights. The last 2 months I have gone from 400mg of Wellbutrin a day to 300mg a day. Now my Dr. has agreed to go down another notch to 150 a day. Has anyone experienced this before? I currently take 2 1/2 grains (150mg) of Armour split in 2-3 doses a day.
Avatar n tn the ultimate criterion for dose adjustment must always be the clinical response of the patient. I have prescribed natural dessicated thyroid for your patient (Armour, Nature-Throid) because it contains both T4 and T3 (40mcg and 9mcg respectively per 60mg). This assures sufficient T3 levels and thyroid effects in the body.
988694 tn?1332359479 He said if I feel well with a higher FT3 is not a problem, but my issue is osteoporosis. I have read a high FT3 causes this. Like someone said it seems that NT is made of super pigs becuase the FT3 goes up like crazy. My usual pharmacy did not have NT and I went to other place. The guy who took the order was ready to order and telling me about the strengths when during the conversation he mentioned Armour Thyroid. I told him to read well the prescription but he said they were identical.
Avatar n tn I had several benign tumors on my thyroid for many years before having to have my thyroid removed entirely 2 1/2 years ago because the largest tumor (3 cm and round in shape) was impinging on my ability to breathe and swallow. My thyroid medicine has been changed through the years as my TSH, T3 and T4 fluxuated. I gained 40 pounds within the few months following my surgery, but through diet/exercise have not gained any more weight since then. I am currently about 80 pounds overweight.
Avatar m tn Thank you for you kind response. I saw my Dr.yesterday and had all the blood work done, don't know the results yet. It was a tense visit because he is convinced by his friend, that is an Endo., that TSH is the only accurate test for thyroid. I told him that the Armour Thyroid people say you can't even use it with Armour because it will give you a false reading due to the addition of T3 in Armour. He doesn't believe the people that make the drug.
Avatar n tn The best I have ever felt was when I was taking 180 mg Armour Thyroid. Weight stable...good energy, digestive system good, blood serum levels for cholesterol were very much improved - dr was ecstatic with that! While having my cholesterol tested, also had blood drawn for thyroid - since it hadn't been tested in a while. Of course had to fast for the cholesterol test, and had taken my thyroid medication that morning. My doctor almost had a coronary when he saw thyroid results. TSH: 0.
393419 tn?1228447393 It took years for me to learn what I know now, and I discovered that there is a clinic in Boulder that specialized in thyroid problems. They recommend Armour thyroid, not synthroid, because some people cannot absorb synthetic thyroid well. I'm one of those people. I've been on natural thyroid for 2 1/2 years now, and the results are nearly miraculous! You might want to try natural thyroid.
Avatar m tn I wake up in the Morning not feeling rested and I think it is because of the getting messed up on the medicine of now seemingly taking too much Armour. I had to switch to Armour from Naturethroid a few months ago because at that time, the Naturethroid was not able to be delivered to my Pharmacist. I believe that tomorrow Morning I will split one of the two Armours in half and take 1 1/2 tablets for a few days until I can speak with my Doctor.
Avatar n tn my question is if anyone has tried different forms of medication. I mentioned Armour to my doctor, but he said it is too hard to control the exact level of thyroid in it. I am really frustrated and just want the solution!! Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions!!
Avatar n tn s the antibodies are continually attacking the thyroid gland and causing diminishing amounts of thyroid hormone production. This will require increasing doses of thyroid med to offset the loss. Also, hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, so if not tested for those, it would be a good idea. If you get those tested, we'd be happy to help interpret and advise further.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a toxic goiter/hyperthyroidism in 1952 and had a total thyroidectomy. I have been taking Armour thyroid since then, except for 3 different years and 3 different Drs. who insisted I take synthetic thyroid. Currently seeing ENT who seems to have knowledge and willingness to prescribe Armour. Has anyone in this community had a toxic goiter? Is it called something else now?
Avatar f tn d be Hypo and undertreated and so I was discharged from his clinic with various scare warnings of osteoporosis and stroke risk. However following this I enjoyed 3 years of very good health where my TSH was suppressed <0.05, my FT4 and FT3 were hovvering just on or above the upper reference range. Now however I have begun to feel unwell and my suspisions of hypo symptoms have been confirmed with my FT4 dropping to 10 and my TSH becoming detectable again at 0.07.
1018337 tn?1251567540 I have tried synthroid years ago and it didn't help at all, infact I was more tired, so I took myself off and haven't been on meds for years. I just started with a new GP and we spoke about armour thyroid meds, I have started, it has been about 1 1/2 weeks. Don't really feel a change yet. Wondering how other people feel about the armour and your experiences.
Avatar f tn ve been on 2 grains of Armour Thyroid. Thyroid Armour lab numbers mudt be different then synthyroid. Do my numbers seem ok? Synthyroid and Cytomel (88mcg synthyroid and 15mcg Cytomel) numbers below FT4:   1.00 ng/dL (0.93-1.7) TSH: 0.533 mcIU/mL (0.27-4.20) FT3 or T3: NOT ORDERED Armour Thyroid (2 grains) This is the best I've felt in very long time FT4: 1.02 (0.93-1.7) T3: 98.7 (80-200) TSH: 0.090 L (0.27 - 4.
Avatar n tn TSH will look slightly hyper, Free T4 should me at least mid normal range, and Free T3 should look mid normal to high normal range (some even go a little above the high normal range) Anything below these and you are not optimal. I am sorry to say that your doctor is leaving you hypo and feeling sick. My goodness even the new range of TSH .30-3.0 shows you hypo! Go find a thyroid specialist so you can get to feeling better! Please do not settle for being left sick......
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar n tn Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
