Avatar n tn If one would switch from Synthroid to Armour thyroid, What is the amount of armour to the amount of synthroid one is taking. Is there a formula to use to get the dosage.
Avatar f tn Hi - I have had a lot of problems with my thyroid lately and was just recently switched from Synthroid to Armour. For the past couple of weeks I have been having muscle twitching and what feels like muscle weakness. My arms and legs feel tired and rubbery. I don't know what the conversion is from Synthroid to Armour but I am pretty sure that I am not on enough.
Avatar n tn I have taken taken thyroid medication for 25 years and have been on 1.75 grains of Armour thyroid for a number of years. Recently it's effectiveness for me declined. According to my Allergist and lab results (a high Antithyroglobulin Ab and my nutritionist, but negative Thyroid Peroxidase Ab; TSH 0.9), I could be producing antibodies to the natural thyroid so he suggested a switch to Synthroid and Cytomel. At the time I was also showing some signs of too much thyroid medication.
Avatar m tn t benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
519035 tn?1348275773 I mentioned this to my family doctor and he emphatically stated that Armour was a bad choice and that Synthroid is the best med for my thyroid condition and prescribed same. I filled the Px and started the Synthroid and immediately (within a few days) was feeling very poorly and was restless and had a hard time sleeping. I stopped the Synthroid completely and on my own, started taking taking the Armour.
Avatar f tn 100mcg of levothyroxine is about 60mg of armour -- you need to work with a doctor to make sure the conversion works out for you and that labs are appropriate.
Avatar f tn I have Hosimoto's and I've taken Armour Thyroid since 2000 and will never take anything else. Armour Thyroid is all natural - not synthetic. The doctor who first put me on it only prescribed Armour. He didn't like the long term affects that could be caused by taking synthetics. I had surgery in 2002 and 2/3'ds of my thyroid removed. The surgeon wanted to take me off Armour and put me on Synthroid but I wouldn't let him.
Avatar f tn I am now on the Synthroid with Cytomel and doing great. When I first had my TT last year, I tried the Synthroid without the Cytomel and sis terribly.. now that I added the T3.. its working good. I feel better now than I have in a very long time!! Even on the Armour! Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn Well I've been on Armour Thyroid 1 grain split morning and early afternoon. Was on syntroid 125 mcg. My symptoms has seem to have gotten worse. Extreme nerve pain throughout my body with nerviness and shakes. Lack of appetite, bad headaches, tightness in the throat with a cough. This is the worst I've felt in along time and not sure what's causing the problem. Wasn't feeling good on the Synthroid either but these symptoms weren't as bad since I've switched to the Armour.
734073 tn?1278896325 I am 32, have hypothyroid for 8 years now. I was switched from Synthroid to Armour thyroid by a new doctor and never felt worse. I did it for 2 weeks and continued to feel worse. Body aches, moodiness, etc. I switched back to Synthroid and feel good again.
Avatar f tn Sadly, many doctors have never heard of Armour Thyroid or if they have, they refuse to prescribe it. Many doctors falsely believe Armour Thyroid is an inferior medication and some believe it is downright dangerous. This is utter rubbish! Once I got on Armour Thyroid most of my low thyroid symptoms cleared up. I still have a few low thyroid issues that I'm working on resolving. I highly suggest you do some research on the Internet about Armour Thyroid and T3.
Avatar f tn I felt horrible on synthroid (not enough T3) and switched back to Naturethroid and increased the dose and was feeling really good until I had to start the reformulated Naturethroid.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the response. I feel like I'm taking too much T4, but the TSH is confusing the doctors. I took Cytomel 5mcg for about two months. Gained 15 pounds in that time. I only took Amour for 2 weeks -- had a horrible reaction to it, and had to stop. I was truly bedridden for the first time in my life. I think it was because I switched straight to it without any titrating. I also think losing the Synthroid was a shock. I wonder if a mix of Synthroid and Armour could help.
Avatar f tn t split your dose of Cytomel, try splitting it between the morning and afternoon, I do that with my Armour also. Do you ahve a conversion issue? is that why you are on Cytomel?
Avatar f tn T3 in a ratio of about 4-or-5:1. The normally functioning human thyroid produces about 20:1. So, there is a lot of T3 in Armour. Some people can't tolerate all that T3, and some only do well on Armour. Also, using Cytomel, the balance of T4 to T3 is a bit easier to control since the dosages can be manipulated separately. Whether you get your levels to an optimal level using synthetics or Armour, the results for weight loss should be the same. Your FT4 really came up quite nicely.
1646889 tn?1301481228 It is possible to have a conversion problem, that is my issue, so my MD just took me off of Synthroid and put me on Armour three weeks ago, There is a math formula using your levels and reference ranges to determine if you have a conversion problem. If you want to post Free T3 and Free T4 with the reference ranges, I can figure it out and let you know.
4359189 tn?1353351059 Hi all, I am not new to the whole hypothyroid thing, but I am new to Armour. I was born without my thyroid working so I have been on synthetic thyroid for 35 years. Just recently I have noticed that Synthroid just hasn't done the trick so I asked to try the Armour. My doctor, who is awesome, started me on it and I'm waiting for it to kick in, but so frustrated in the process. How long do I have to wait? I'm exhausted, losing hair, and gaining weight!
Avatar f tn Would love to know from those that have done well on armour coming from Synthroid. Also, just take 88 mcg now and need to convert. Also, how long does it take your body to adjust from changing? Help!!!
Avatar f tn if I am this sensitive, should I try 37.5 mcg of synthroid? I also have a rx for Armour and would like to try it so am wondering what anyone thinks of this as an option given that it has both T4 and T3. Other things: I did not get any other tests done but am taking iron, D, and B supplements as I know this is a factor. I thank you in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn I am afraid to make a decision in my care at this point becasue my regular doctor and my naturopath are giving me different information on my thyroid care. I have been on Synthroid for years for full removal of thyroid, but the last couple years my levels have been fluctuating. In March 2021 my TSH was 1.63 Reference Range 0.27- 4.20 Free T4 was 16 Reference Range 10-22 Free T3 was 3.2 Reference Range 2.6-5.
Avatar f tn In 2016, I had tried adding Synthroid to my Armour to bring up my FT4, but on 90mg Armour and 25mcg.Synthroid my FT4 went even lower. So at that point I dropped it and went back just to Armour. Then recently, I came across a book that talks specifically about the ratios and importance of getting the right amount of FT4 and FT3.
Avatar f tn I had thyroid cancer at 28 and have been taking synthroid since with no relief. I started Armour at 90 mg and synthroid was 180. I took full dose at 630 am and felt great. Around 5 pm, I started feeling hot, moody and cloudy. today i took half dose, assuming i took too much but i feel the same. Is this normal, I didn’t expect much at first but I got a feeling of normalcy and them crash. I just want that normal feeling back, I haven’t felt well in 17 years.
Avatar m tn The results showed that the patients scored better after receiving the natural thyroid Armour on 6 of 17 measures of mood and cognition than those on the synthetic drug Synthroid. Results of mood and physical status tests were better in 10 of 15 instances. There was also biochemical evidence that thyroid hormone action was greater after treatment with natural thyroid rather than the synthetic. Can there really be that big of a difference between natural and synthetic? You bet.
Avatar m tn So got back on and started looking at my labs then and now and from another time with Levoxyl. Synthroid 50 mcg. now versus no thyroid med last year this time looks almost the same free-t wise except the TSH! April 2010 (no thyroid meds) TSH 7.14 FT4: 1.2 (0.8-1.8) FT3: 257 (230-420) February 2011 (50 mcg Synthroid) TSH: 1.65 FT4: 1.3 (0.8-1.8) FT3: 2.4 (2.3-4.2) I also tried Levoxyl at one time and here are my labs: June 2010 TSH: 1.06 FT4: 1.5 (0.8-1.
