armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn Hi, I want to switch from my 100mcg daily dose of Levoxyl to Armour Thyroid- what would be the equivalent dose? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi, Just a quick question - I have had hypothyroid for many years and on treatment with Armour. Never had any problems until recently. It has been recommended on the message boards that I ask for additional tests other than TSH. Could you tell me what tests to ask for - T3? T4? I don't know much about all of these since I never had any complaints when I went for my annual physical.
1877796 tn?1320527991 So, to start, what was the diagnosed cause for you being hypothyroid? What were your thyroid related test results at that time? Were you started on Armour? What was your starting dose and when? What is your current dose? Do you have other symptoms besides the depression? If so, please post those. What were your latest thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report?
808425 tn?1371092328 Actually, the above answer is not correct. Armour Thyroid should be take a 1/2 hr to one hour BEFORE eating.
Avatar m tn In the USA at least, all hormones including thyroid hormone(s) T4 (Synthroid) and T3 (Cytomel) and Any natural desiccated thyroid med like Armour require doctor Prescription. To dose thyroid you absolutely need to be tested for at a minimum Free T4 and Free T3 tests. Typically people need to be at least in the middle of the reference range for BOTH thyroid hormones if not a bit higher int he range.
Avatar n tn There are a couple of things that come to mind regarding reactions to the Armour Thyroid. First is that there could be some ingredient in the Armour that affected you. That would be somewhat unusual but not impossible. Another thing that comes to mind is the possibility that you are low in cortisol, or ferritin. A deficiency in either is reported to cause reaction to T3 type meds. So it seems that you should consider stopping the Armour altogether and get some further testing done.
Avatar m tn I'm 34 years old. My pregnancy is high risk. I had a circlage when I was 17 weeks. My T3 hormone is low. I'm on Armour Thyroid. I did not take my medication for 3 weeks now because it is no longer in stock. I'm I in danger?
Avatar n tn At work we have a saying that we use when something drives us crazy..."no sense, makes sense" Your mom is 80, took Armour 40 yrs, wasn't having problems so when she moved the dr changed her meds (because there was no armour or he doesn't like armour?)...."ns,ms" Armour wasn't available??? What? Did she move to another planet??? (Sorry for the sarcasm but drs make me very out of patience when they act stupid) "ns,ms" My guess is...
Avatar n tn The medication contains T 1, 2, 3, 4, and calcitonin, all of which are produced by a healthy thyroid. It is not true that Armour is difficult to regulate or dirty. In fact, Armour batches have been recalled less frequently than their synthetic counterparts. This is not to say Armour is any better or worse; it is simply important to remember that different patients respond to different medications, and T4-only medications don't work for everyone.
Avatar m tn Hi all, I was wondering if someone could message me with a reliable source of Nature Thyroid or Armour without a Prescription. I've been taking Levo for many years and it's just not working for me. TSH is still out of range.
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour thyroid for 40 years with no problems and I guess from what I have read, I should consider myself very fortunate. In December I started with the heart palpitations and feeling bad. This has continued more than not until present time. I was decreased from 135 mg to 120 mg to 90 mg and lowered my dosage to 75 mg (I informed my doctor and he said that was fine if I was feeling better with that dose).
535882 tn?1396576685 You were NOT on Acella NP Thyroid when you felt thyroid symptoms, but you were on Armour during that time? Note for all reading this: It is import to look at the pills themselves when getting natural thyroid from Target or Walgreens, as some stores will call both "thyroid".
Avatar m tn I am not addvertising for this outfit nor do I know anything about them but did receive in the mail an add for armour thyroid. They are in Canada. Please send me a message for more information.
Avatar f tn s the difference between OTC thyroid supplements and Armour? Are thyroids processed differently? I thought the thyroid itself is a gland, so how can the stuff in an OTC supplement be glandular but not contain much thyroid hormones?
Avatar m tn symptoms came along with taking Armour Thyroid or Synthroid? I had no such symptoms of pgad til my dose of Armour Throid was hiked up. I didn't immediately connect the two until I did my own "test". I quit taking my thyroid medicine for 3 weeks. Within 5 days all pgad symptoms stopped! So I called my Doc and told her what I did. She said to stop for 3 more weeks and then she would start me on a lower dose, but it would be Synthroid this time. Guess what.....
Avatar f tn I have been taking Levoxyl (levothyroxine) 125mcg for over 10 years and have gain almost 100 pounds. As I understand it, Armour is to be used in conjunction with the other thyroid meds and monitored closely, since it is a sythetic harmone replacement. However, weight gain is part of the game and I've been reading these boards. Dr. Lupo will tell you otherwise but I don't think the medical world knows or wants to put the two together.
Avatar m tn I still fell very dizzy and this had really only gotten worse with my thyroid meds. I was even worse of the syenthetics. Now on armour this still continues. seems like it comes and goes theoughout the day. Can anyone realate to feeling this on armour?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been struggling for many years to the point of disability due to depression, memory loss, brain fog, fatigue....you know all those lovely symptoms that we with thyroid problems deal with. In Summer of 2008, I finally went to doctor outside my HMO plan who was willing to let me try Cytomel. It was a miracle drug for me at first, as my brain awoke after years of struggling, I felt fantastic, then started the heart JUMPS worse than the word palpitations describes for me.
Avatar f tn and cystic back acne from the synthroid (both my PCP and a dermatologist insisted the synthroid was not giving me acne, but within weeks of going off it and on to Armour the acne went completely away). I loved the Armour because my brain-fog went entirely away as did my back acne, however within a few months I started to feel incredibly fatigued and was exhausted constantly. I wasn't able to fall asleep at night and would lay away for hours.
393685 tn?1425812522 In recent months I have been following the rumors of Armour thyroid medication being in short supply. Since I am an Armour thyroid patient I became concerned with the rumors and started conversing with other Armour patients and advocants of this medication. I know my medication dosages have not changed much from the original 60mg (1 grain) to 30 mg (1/2 grain) So far I am not having trouble getting my refills - but from what I am reading that could be an issue soon until 10/08.
Avatar f tn I am on Armour and had a Free T3 of 2.7 and free T4 of .82. My TSH was 0.3. At first my md said the low T3 and T4 were probabaly the problem and then about faced and said they are not that low; however, I am tired all of the time, lethargic, have weight gain even though I am not one bit hungry. I was increased by my primary care from 90 mg to 120 mg until I got to my new md. My new results show Free T3 at 3.1 (2.0-4.4), Free T4 at 1.01 (.82 -1.77) and TSH at .03.
Avatar n tn She prescribed 30 mg of Armour (not 100% sure that is what I received as the bottle just says thyroid porcine) once a day. Is there anything I should know about taking this? It is in a gelatin capsule and it came from a compounding pharmacy. It did not come with any write up on how and when to take it. It is not something I could easily separate as it is in a capsule. I am taking it for a month so I can see if any of my symptoms resolve.
1039061 tn?1257878294 Thanks to gimel doing some leg work for me, I was able to get into a new Dr. that was willing to prescribe Armor Thyroid and not treat me strictly on my TSH. YAY!! I went to see him on Monday and he is a really nice man. He told me he would keep an open mind and give it a shot with this treatment. I don't think he has ever prescribed Armor Thyroid though, because he was unsure of the conversion. I was on 112 mcg of Levoxyl and he prescribed me 60 mg of Armor.
Avatar m tn //www.armourthyroid.com/con_phResults.aspx I know it is a generalization, but Doctors that prescribe Armour seem to be less rigid about their approach to testing and treating thyroid problems. Hopefully you'll get a good referral, but if you resort to using the above lists, then be sure to "interview" potential doctors about their approach to testing and treating patients, in order to be sure you want to "hire" them.
908150 tn?1243182960 I have been working on getting control of my thyroid religiously for 2 years now due to all the terrible symptoms I was having.
