Avatar n tn As far as I'm aware, benadry is safe for quite a long time in dogs. The general doggy dosage is 1 mg/ per pound, so that's what your vet has prescribed - most people tend to go too low on the dosage. Using it for only the summer months should be no problem at all. I had a dog who needed it a good 8 months or more of every year and it never caused any trouble. Hope it works well for your Bostie!
Avatar n tn Instead you will be aggravating your allergy. For you, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. But if you can’t part with your dog then you can spray areas where your dogs spend their time (carpets, sofas) with an anti allergen spray. . Wash your hands after having contact with your pet. Bath the dog at least once or twice a week and wipe the dog with a wet cloth or hand towel daily as dog allergens also attach to a dog’s fur, which carries the allergens about.
Avatar n tn DOGS CANNOT TAKE DECONGESTANTS!!!! They cannot metabolize them. If your dogs ears are that bad they are in need of antibiotic and antifungals. You can ask your vet to prescribe an antibiotic like cephalexin and an antifungal like fluconazole both which can be called into a walmart in your area and they are on the $4 generic list so it keeps cost down. As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them.
Avatar f tn Additionally, German shepards are commonly affected by food allergy and pollen/dust allergies, which cause itching similar to scabies, so if your dog is still itchy and if no mites are found on skin scrapings, then I recommend trying a hypoallergenic diet trial for possible food allergy.
Avatar f tn 1. If you are someone who can carefully follow directions, buy a book that tells you how to make your own kidney diet dog foo. It is doable; my dog has chronic kidney disease, diagnosed almost 2 years ago and is doing better on home made food, which he loves & energetically eats. But it is very important that you add in the correct supplements that the author vet tells you, in addition to the food. I follow the recipe from the book Dr.
Avatar f tn Good question for the Vet. I'm not familiar with the fish & sweet potato variety. I look first at a food to make sure its grain-free, and then I look at the other ingredients. The fewer ingredients the better for pets with allergy issues. I started giving my dogs and cats "Fresh Factors" by Springtime Inc. (just throw on top of food for dogs, for cats, crush up with back of spoon and mix in with wet food ) and it seems to make everyone noticebly more energetic/healthier.
Avatar m tn Dog allergies are very common and due to saliva of the dog. “Allergy to dogs is relatively common, as dog allergen can be found in public places, including daycare facilities.” “For people with dog allergy, avoidance of dogs is the mainstay of therapy. Allergy medications are likely to help control symptoms, but in many instances symptoms may persist if the person owns one or more indoor dogs. Allergy shots may also be a good treatment option for people who are allergic to their pet dogs.
Avatar f tn Im allergic to the horses the dogs the cat the hay my rabbits...
Avatar f tn Also I have two dogs who shed a lot. Seems strange to all of a sudden develop allergy. Had allergy testing done and found more allergic to cats than dogs, but had high antibodies to different bacterium and candida above normal. Could mold do this? Going crazy, Thanks.
Avatar f tn t buy them from them though as they are often so pricey, needlessly so! You can then look for allergy medications otc for dogs (there are several) on Amazon. I would not give your dog benadryl unless your doctor advises it. I have a lot of issues with it as a grown human. :>) Now eye discharge is something to look into. Again, a vet visit may be best. https://pets.webmd.
Avatar m tn One thing many people do not realize is that if a dog has a food allergy that it takes up to 6 weeks for that allergy to not affect the dog once the food has been switched over to another food. When you are checking a dog over for a food allergy, you cannot give him ANY OTHER type of food OR any types of treats. He may only have ONE food, no treats. Finding a food that will not cause problems can take several months of hit and misses.
Avatar n tn Since scabies mites are difficult to find, I trial treat dogs for scabies with Revolution every 2 weeks for 3 treatments. If skin infection is present, it is treated with antibiotics for 3-4 weeks and mild antibacterial shampoos. The itch can be treated symptomatically with mild oatmeal shampoos, fatty acids, antihistamines or a short course of oral steroids, but steroids are not a good choice for long term treatment due to their many side effects.
Avatar n tn As far as I am aware, dogs cannot contract chicken pox. This sounds much more like a food allergy rash to me. You will need to get your dog to a vet so they can prescribe an anti-inflamitory and an appropriate antibiotic. Can you list what you are feeding your dog? If it includes beef or chicken, I would stop feeding them, as they can be the root cause of allergies in some dogs.
Avatar m tn m making excuses to purchase a pup that will be born in two weeks and available around January. I thought there might be a few severe allergy sufferers that have found a way to live with dogs that could possibly contribute their methods to this feed.
874521 tn?1424116797 Food allergies only account for 10 percent of allergy problems in dogs. Dogs often can not tolerate soy products, wheat, corn, beef, pork, chicken, milk, whey, eggs, fish, chemical preservatives, or artificial sugars in their food. Determining the food allergen can be time consuming. First, eliminate all the possible allergens from the diet, by using a home made diet consisting of a protein and a starch the dog has not eaten before.
Avatar n tn I was recently tested for allergies by a blood test and it came back I was allergic to cats and dogs, but I have heard this form of testing isn't always 100% and skin testing is still needed. Is this true? I have had asthma symptoms for two months now with shortness of breath & chest tightness. I have had a stress test, echocardiogram, PFT, Lung scan, CT, chest x-ray, endoscopy so far and everything normal except for reflux, ulcers in the esophagus and mild asthma.
Avatar n tn Hey, I am not too sure if that can be done. Instead i would like to ask you not to try and keep the pet if you are well aware that dogs cause allergy to u. I am unaware if there is a "serum " like that.
Avatar m tn When I am around common animals that have dander such as dogs, cats, bunnies or hamsters, I begin to develop a slight rash and my eyes swollen and I have an asthma attack. Well, I was around a cat the other day. I was holding it and petting it and stroking it. My left eye slightly swollen and my upper arm had 2 bumbs...I had no asthma. I am usually worse around dogs...but are my allergies starting to get better?
932657 tn?1244560217 I know the **** Van Patten brand (at Petco) has a limited ingredients line of food for allergy dogs. Also "California Natural, Pure & Simple" (lamb & rice) is supposed to be a good one for sensive dogs. I have a friend whose dog is chronically allegic to everything, and she gives him nothing but boiled chicken and soft boiled eggs- he's allegic to everything else.
Avatar m tn ve had for several years and that he could have an allergy to them. I am skeptical of this for reasons I will explain below. We are now at the point that he won't come to my house and yet I can't leave my dogs alone for long periods of time. We would like to move in together but this is causing a lot of heart ache. We have discussed the situation at length and many tears have been shed but we have both agreed that rehoming our dogs and breaking up are both not an option.
Avatar f tn The vet gave me this ickey brown stuff for my dogs wounds. Is there anyway to stop the dog from biting it's paws without medication? Or is it just something I'd have to watch.
Avatar m tn I am currently seaching for a new apartment. The problem is that most of them take dogs and cats, or, one or the other. "No pet" buildings are few and far between. So it looks like I may have to move into a building that accepts pets. The question: What I'm concerned about is moving into a pet building and then being allergic to the animals in the building or perhaps one that WAS in my unit. My question: Is this possible? Am I worrying about nothing?
Avatar f tn He is now 20 and seems to be able to tolerate dogs in small doses but NOT cat hair of any kind. Wondering if this is a lifelong affliction.
Avatar m tn I have seen a new allergy doctor recently. 48 hours ago, I went for a visit for allergy skin testing. They performed the skin ***** test on my forearms then proceeded to do intradermal skin testing. I was allergic to all intradermal tests except dogs. This is not the first time I've had skin testing done so this was what I expected. I have attempted to google delayed reactions and intradermal skin test but not results.
460185 tn?1326077772 We took him to the vet who said it was an allergy, primarily in his back feet and probably from going outside. He gave us meds for the dog and later spray to discouraging him from licking. It seems to have helped. Now our lhasa apso is licking his feet. He was also sleeping on the floor earlier tonight, something he never does.
