Common Questions and Answers about Throat cancer gerd

throat

Avatar m tn Thx but the question is could it be a gerd or an oropharyngeal cancer coz I have to wait one week before seeing my doctor
Avatar m tn i have also had some heartburn, so i wonder if these could be the symptoms of gerd. i am seeing an ent, he checked my throat and didn't see any growths and is going to have an mri done on me. in the meantime i am quite frightened, especially of throat cancer, has anyone had the same symptoms? i am beside myself with fear.
Avatar f tn Common causes are anxiety disorder, acid reflux or GERD,biliary disease, cranial nerve compression esp glossopharyngeal and vagus nerve and myasthenia gravis.Throat cancer is unlikely as other symptoms are also present along with feeling of lump in throat. The most common cause is gastro esophageal reflux disease - GERD. Diagnosis is by fibroptic laryngoscopy. Fiberoptic laryngoscopy also helps confirm the GERD diagnosis.
Avatar f tn She says may be from GERD, but I only get acid reflux once or twice a year, though when I do it is up into the mouth, no heartburn. Is there any significant chance that this may be GERD or simple ulcer in my throat or should I try to prepare for a finding of supraglottal cancer?
Avatar f tn I am a white 34 year old female, non-smoker/never smoked a day in my life, and rarely drink. I went to the ER Friday evening/Saturday morning because I had chest, arm, and back pain. They drew blood, did an ekg, and an xray. They came back normal, and diagnosed me with GERD and torn muscles in my upper back, and muscle strain in my elbows. I believe I've had GERD for most or all of my life, but without the heartburn. I never realized what I had.
Avatar n tn I would agree with the ENT that your throat symptoms are those of GERD, which is another symptom of hypothyroidism. I had them (and GERD) for years, so I'm very familiar with them.
496495 tn?1224609863 Hello I am a 28 year old male and I am concerned about throat cancer. Almost 2 and a half weeks ago I had laid down to take a nap and when I awoke I had weird pain on the left side of my throat when I swallowed. This lasted for about a day and got a lot better but there was still some minor pain every so often when I swallowed. I do have acid reflux and allergies with bad post nasal drip and had a scope about 2 and a half years ago showing some minor irritation around my focal cords.
Avatar f tn One type of HPV (only one, HPV16) indeed causes throat cancer. But throat cancer remains quite rare, despite what might be assumed from recent publicity e.g. Mr. Douglas' case. And it certainly doesn't cause GERD or symptoms of that sort. There is no reason for you to be tested for oral HPV, and no validated, approved tests are available; and neither a positive nor negative result would make any difference in your health care, nor in predictions your risk for future cancer.
Avatar n tn Although there are many other causes for sore throat and laryngitis, GERD should be suspected in a patient with chronic sore throat or other GERD symptoms or when no other cause can be found. Severe, long-standing GERD can damage the esophagus and cause a condition known as Barrett's esophagus wherein the normal lining of the esophagus is replaced by a lining more like that of the stomach or intestine.
Avatar m tn I am age 35 and I wonder if this little pain...., It goes away and comes back, but the pain is getting lower not harder, but it comes and goes, Please help? Avatar f tn I went to see an ENT and he did a scope (went in through the nose and looked down at the throat), I had a CT of the throat, and an Ultrasound of my thryroid and a Upper GI Series (Barium Swallow). There was nothing he could see from the scoping, the CT came back negative, the Barium swallow showed mild to moderate acid reflux, and the ultrasound showed nodules (which the doc said was nothing to worry about). All in all everything that was done did not show any type of mass or obstruction.
Avatar f tn m still having GERD symptoms - burning abdomen, stomach tender to the touch when poked, acid reflux, lump in throat, burning up back of throat, excessive belching and gas..I've also had diarrhea since the symptoms started almost a year ago. I'm worrying that it's gastric cancer. Three months ago I had two ct scans of the abdomen. One with just iodine contrast and another with both iodine contrast and barium swallow. Both came back fine. Would gastric cancer show up on the ct scans?
Avatar f tn Is this normal? One of my friends husbands was diagnosed with throat cancer (now in remission) and I am always worrying this throat irritation will turn into cancer. I am not sure how long I may have had LPR, but for years I was always clearing my throat. The burning sensation started about a month ago.
Avatar m tn I worry about damage and cancer and the last 5 years I have had more throat pain and throat tightness when I do get a flare up. My GI seems very laid back about this and I wonder if my stuff just isn't that alarming or if my current situation doesn't really increase my risk of cancer or anything. My doctor has never warned me of any cancer risks and when I have asked she answers me with a very " your worrying for nothing" view point.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am glad to see that you are now taking the medication and cutting down on coffee and beer - that is a good start in managing your condition. It is unlikely that you should get Barrets and esopheagal cancer if you keep your GERD under control. Barrets and thus cancer normally develops if you don't take medication and continue with bad eating and drinking habbits. The lump in your throat and difficulty in swallowing are signs of uncontrolled GERD - alarms symptoms.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with GERD about one year ago and had it for maybe a year before that. In this entire time I basically ignored it and drank alot of Milk and took Tums as needed. I now realize the mistake I've made may have caused me Cancer. I'm only 23 years old but have what feels to be a lump inside my throat (have had the lump for maybe 2 years) on my right hand side which is a symptom of Larynx Cancer. Although I have no others especially the main one Hoarseness in the voice.
Avatar m tn No, it's not likely to be cancer. It takes several months to several years for HPV to develop into cancer. There is something called globus pharyngeus that may be what you're experiencing - https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318633.php. That's from anxiety, but you should see your doctor to rule out anything with a physical cause, like GERD/acid reflux, or a digestive disorder.
Avatar f tn You are saying that you had a bacterial throat infection back in December? Tonsilitis? Did you take antibiotics? White spots on your throat are not indicative of throat cancer. Here's the symptoms of throat cancer and you don't mention any of the symptoms . https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/throat-cancer/symptoms-causes/syc-20366462 White spots on the throat can be a sign of throat infection like you had previously. https://www.healthgrades.
Avatar m tn Has anyone experienced dysphagia (reduced ability to swallow food, narrrowed esophagus)? Ive read that its possible but I still find it hard to believe GERD could be the cause for my dyshagia, not only because I never really experienced heart burn or acid taste in my mouth or anything typical of Gerd but also because my dysphagia started about 2 monhs ago with a sudden onset out of nowhere, with a throat infection / tonsillitis.
Avatar f tn Occassionally i get this flutter in my throat right at the opening in the front where the 2 ends of your clavical comes. it is wierd and doesn't last for long. it is kind of like the feeling you get when you are on a roller coaster and drop from a big hill. i got one about a month ago after i ate chinese it lasted a little longer than usual and i just got one today. i had eaten a muffin about 45 minutes before i got it. i head on tv that this was from stomach issues but is it?
Avatar f tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/GERD-Acid-Reflux/Something-stuck-in-throat-feeling/show/1360181 As to tonsil cancer, that is always something that provokes anxiety to worry if what we are dealing with is cancer. Please know that the likelihood for you is not. First of all, tonsil cancer is most prevalent in men. It's also most common in those over the age of 50. Those statistics don't mean it couldn't happen to you but the chances are much lower.
Avatar n tn Sounds like the surgery is the one that prevents the acid from coming up, this surgery is important because there is a higher incidence of throat cancer in those who have acid reflux (GERD). I hope this helps.
