Red tongue in dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Red tongue in dogs

tongue

I would have to do some reading up on this issue in dogs. I am somewhat familiar with delayed motility in people so am assuming the "mechanics", so to speak are the same. Sounds like he has an irritated gut too. He needs to be on a bland food that is easily digested. Try cooking up some chicken (no skin) and rice and you could add some vegetable like shredded zucchini.
their territories on the grass after the other dogs just urinated there. No problem. We used to keep all the dogs gated in the kitchen with a doggy door leading to a pretty big backyard. Just saturday we moved the gate further out and now they have access to our living room with our couch. Every once in a while my pekingese will get into it with the rat terrier/chihuahua. We have to pull them apart! But its really not that often, maybe once every couple of months.
Dark meat poultry, fatty hamburger, ground lamb, and canadian bacon are good choices. Of course, dogs in renal failure are so nauseated, it's hard to get them to eat anything, so if she won't eat the low-phosphorus foods, just get something in her. To counteract phosphorus, give her one or two Tums antacid tablets a day - or any indigestion tablet that is primarily calcium. The calcium binds with phosphorus and carries out of the body so it can't do further harm to the kidneys.
A few months ago i was cleaning the house and washed the dogs in a span of an hour. Then when i took a shower i noticed red/purple dot rash erupt over my left hand. It was not raised. I was a little freaked out. The rash on my hand turned pale brown before it went away in 2 days after which i woke up in cold and hot sweats and bright red - this lasted for days until it turned into night chills. vomiting, flushing. From then on my arms and face would turn bright red over every little thing.
When he came in, his tongue was bright red, swollen and hanging out. I noticed a small black area that looked like a bruise. He was slobbering. We called our vet who came immediately. He said it looked like he'd eaten a poisonous plant or gotten a bug bite. He gave him antihistamines and told us not to let him eat or drink and try to keep him from biting his tongue for the next 24 hours. He rechecked him a couple of hours later.
an injection of apomorphine to cause vomiting (it always works), then some charcoal to absorb any toxin from the intestines, then possibly IV fluids for 12-24 hours, depending on the ingested substance. To be honest, these indiscriminaate dogs seem to keep our ER’s in business. Tonsi vomited up a large amount of undigested coffee beans soon after getting his apomorphine, but apparently there was a lot more caffeine on board, as we were soon to find out.
-) Any ideas what I might have-- I've tried benadryl- (ointment and pills) and tinactin and neither have worked. Do I have Pevla (sp)?
and have something bad, then I'll get red bumps within 24 to 48 hours. I wanted to also attempt to explain the red bumps better, in case anyone runs into this in the future. After searching high and low on the Internet, I have come to the conclusion that the bumps are some form of a hive. I've had hives in the past (such as due to stress, etc.). Those hives are raised and red - about the size of a pea.
this morning i woke up with the usual red eye that usually accompanies the horrible swelling of my eye and all I have is the red eye and not the swelling... and granted the red eye is no walk in the park, but at least i can put the refresh liquidgel eye drops - the really thick ones - and that alleviates some of the irritation... And to answer one of the posters above, I do not wear eye make-up... at least we know we aren't alone...
Hi, there are a whole bunch of postings under "chronic cough" which seem similar to this. And some good ideas I am going to try I have had a constant cough for 3 plus years and for last year it has been phlegmy like yours. I am always coughing and clearing my throat at meetings like an old man. Worse in a.m. when I wake up or out in cold walking the dogs. Or.... talking on the telephone or in a meeting. Always have a "frog" in my throat.
I'm so sorry Wyn. I wish there was something i could say to help.
It's always there, and when I drink a pop or eat food it gets worse, and I too get the food particles stuck in my throat. If I drink something red, then when I spit, it's red, if something is blue, then it's blue........it is just crazy. I have had test after test, nobody can figure it out. I constantly have papertowels wherever I go now, kleenex do nothing for me. The only thing I can compare to this is my dog....
I take phenergan myself for constant nausea, and discovered late in the game that dogs can also take phenergan. It didn't work quite as well as the reglan, but at that point we tried anything we could get our hands on. Over the counter Dramamine for motion sickness can be tried as it is metabolized in the liver - got that info from an ER vet nearby.
I can drive 85. Americans will be able to drive faster in Texas than any other state in the nation. Approved in April as part of a state transportation bill, the Texas legislature raised the maximum state speed limit to 85 miles per hour. 5. Want to have a beer and see a naked lady? Pay the government five bucks. Yes, Rick Perry raised taxes! This law was passed in 2007, but was deemed constitutional by the state's highest court only last week.

I have also had pain in my tongue when moving my head and neck. The last ER doc told me he thought the chest pain was connected to my back and shoulders and told me to take Advil. It was nice to find this forum and to know that I am not the only one going through this stuff.
About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
I've had eczema in my ears for 15 yrs. It is very cyclical, starting w/intense uncontrollable itching, then clear fluid leaking from skin, followed by crusting over & flaking of skin in ears that is itchy in & of itself, leading to more scratching & picking at ears. The skin in my ears gets very damaged and ratty during outbreaks. I also have swelling of the ear canal after these itch/scratch episodes that are sometimes quite painful, & Motrin helps that. I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
--don't remember correct name TMI - starts with an L) actually builds up in your system and isn't good for those trying to conceive (I told him I read not to eat red meat, and he said they say that because of the fat and to trim it up good - red meat and pork are the best for you). He also told me to pout 2-3 slices of ginger in my tea and drink it through the day - your uterus relies on your liver functions to work correctly - so if your liver isn't working properly, the uterus won't either.
I wake every morning with horrible pain in lower back (kidney area) that radiates to the front of stomach (rib area). I have had battery of tests and found nothing. I am only able to sleep 5-6 hours before pain wakes me, also unable to take a deep breath until I get out of bed (very painful just to roll over), once I stand and get out of bed the pain almost immediately starts to ease. After about 20 minutes of walking around and after first morning void, pain disappears for remainder of day.
take your average bar of soap dial - zest - ivory ---- whatever. place the bar in between the sheets you sleep in . No more cramps. and it worked for her more times then not.
BUT NOW THE RED BUMPS ARE ALL OVER MY ARMS EVEN BELOW MY ELBOW N NOW AM STARTING 2 NOTICE LIL RED DOTS IN MY LEGS!!! WHAT CAN THIS CONDITION BE? AM FREAKED OUT SINCE A WEEK AGO I GOT MY TONGUE PIERCED AND A TATTOO... COULD IT HAVE BEEN DAT? THANKX....
You did a great job with your dog in that he lived for 14 years and was in good health. The same things that cause sudden death in humans happen to dogs as well. So the answer to you question is yes, dogs can die suddenly with no symptoms that anything is wrong. As traumatic as it is to those of us left behind, it was a kindness that he never had to suffer and likely didn't even know anything was wrong. Sometimes there just aren't any good answers.
the bells before going outside, but this never caught on with her. She'll jump in our bed and just pee. She was in my sons' bed the other day and just squated and poo'd in his bed. We are wits end here. She's the only dog we have. She is in advanced training class right now and doing well. A little "stubborn" and talkative at times, but we figure its the terrier in her. We crate her at night and she can go for 8-10 hours. So, we know she can Hold it.
boil some chicken livers (I know they are yuck) but, to dogs thats a real treat...if he participates in eating,,,then he could just be homesick and/or finicky, and mix the livers/cottagecheese/babyfood in w/the dog food to flip him back onto his food, and steadily wean him back off... A lot of people suggest boiling chicken and rice mixture...
look at your dogs gums and tongue....are they red....if so...not a good sign... It sounds like your dog is in heat if its a male..... or,,,,,,your dog is in trouble and you need to get the dog to vet asap....could be cardiac... Panting is not a good sign w/out cause....hot weather...or stressed about a storm coming or PAIN or CARDIAC.... Please get to vet or Emer Hosp...
I am not trying to sound morbid to scare you or hasty, I beleive you have a dog in trouble, dogs dehydrate quick, and too much pain in a dog will stress the heart and the heart can enlarge...it can only go downhill quick... Please try to contact the opinion of another vet!! Let us know, keep posting, so very sorry about your little friend distress w/the accident, hope you get the help you need!
After we moved, I noticed she developed a large red bumpy rash on the center of her tongue which eventually looked like it healed up except for the fact that it left to dark grey patches where the rash was.
