Common Questions and Answers about Tongue cancer in dogs

107366 tn?1305683975 I have seen this also and it isn't just cancer. I have seen where people with epilepsy have dogs because they can tell when a person is going into an epileptic seizure. So where's the office with the sniffiing dogs? That will be some time in coming won't it? I will read the article Gail, don't have time now. Thanks for posting it.
369472 tn?1198749292 Dark meat poultry, fatty hamburger, ground lamb, and canadian bacon are good choices. Of course, dogs in renal failure are so nauseated, it's hard to get them to eat anything, so if she won't eat the low-phosphorus foods, just get something in her. To counteract phosphorus, give her one or two Tums antacid tablets a day - or any indigestion tablet that is primarily calcium. The calcium binds with phosphorus and carries out of the body so it can't do further harm to the kidneys.
Avatar f tn I went out front and he told me her tongue was white. She walked to the end of my truck and set down, I got the mail from the mail box and went and opened the door to my bedroom. She walked 2/3 rd of the way there and looked at me like, I can’t get there from here pa. So I went and held her hind 1/4s up and she walked in to my bedroom... she laid on the floor. I laid next to her, about 1/2 an hour later she started panting hard and again her tongue was white as were her gums.
Avatar n tn Watch for signs like the bluing of the tongue which means that he is oxygen-deprived. He should not linger in that state. My heart goes out to you because I have been where you are now. It will not be easy but you will do the right thing for your friend who cannot make the decision for himself. Be at peace with yourself and in knowing that you are alleviating the suffering of another being.
Avatar n tn I just lost one of my other dogs a week ago, seeing her go though this is just killing me. IS SHE IN PAIN? When she goes through these spells does that mean she cant breath? cause I can hear it in her chest. like a weez. PLEASE help. I'm just at a loss of what to do anymore. But, when she isn't going through these spells she is as happy as can be. Running around like a puppy.
Avatar m tn I have a mixed breed dog (part golden lab and other things) He is 98 dog years old and has been through a lot in his life. He has been very healthy though. Recently he had a tumor on his tongue that was surgically removed, then he got some on his rear end. Both surgery's were this past summer 2008. The vet also mentioned he has enlarged liver disease. I just noticed on his tongue today the beginning of another tumor. I would like some advice on what to do with him.
1623930 tn?1299179477 After several days it became clear that our dog was going to lose a part of his tongue. His tongue actually split in front so he looked like he had a viper tongue as the healthy tissue separated from the dead (wish I'd taken a picture now but it was too traumatic at the time!). At that point our vet injected him with a spider poison that sped up the process of losing that part of his tongue (he told us they also use this venom for breast cancer treatment!).
Avatar n tn We adopted him about 4 years ago. He has virtually no lower jaw and his tongue hangs out all the time. We have two other dogs as well. We have noticed over the past couple of weeks that he has been coughing alot more than normal and rattles when he sleeps. Yesterday when my wife got home from work she discovered blood everywhere in our living room, in the Yorkie's bed and all around. It appeared to have come from him. He would not eat, but did attempt to drink alot.
Avatar n tn yoshi, i am sorry but i do appreciate this kind of tongue-in-cheek ironic remarks...i am really very worried and looking for support. i hope you understand what i'm saying.
82861 tn?1333457511 We took Mom to the ER Saturday night as she was in extreme back and leg pain. She couldn't even stand to go to the bathroom, feed herself or dress herself. The day before she was positively diagnosed with blood in her stool. We had to pull a whole lot of strings to get her admitted as nobody believed she was sick enough for admission. All hell broke loose when they got the intial blood work in. Mom's hemoglobin was a 6. Yes, a six. That's not a typo.
Avatar n tn I discovered a swollen lymph node in the left side of my two year old Shih Tzu's neck. I immediately took her to the vet and he checked her temperature, which was normal, and felt all other nodes, which were also normal. After one minute of looking her over he concluded that nothing was wrong and if it was I had caught it "too early", which I didn't think was possible, especially if it is cancer. He gave her a shot to reduce the swelling and sent us on our way.
192055 tn?1263559137 Hi, there are a whole bunch of postings under "chronic cough" which seem similar to this. And some good ideas I am going to try I have had a constant cough for 3 plus years and for last year it has been phlegmy like yours. I am always coughing and clearing my throat at meetings like an old man. Worse in a.m. when I wake up or out in cold walking the dogs. Or.... talking on the telephone or in a meeting. Always have a "frog" in my throat.
173975 tn?1216261375 I'm so sorry Wyn. I wish there was something i could say to help.
Avatar m tn This morning has been my first time after sinus surgery that I smelled something bad.We have 2 dogs in the house,I thought it was my nose, but the smell was so strong I started looking around because I thought one of them has lost their mind and s**t I was walking around sniffing and when I didn't find anything,I got my Neti Pot and washed my sinuses 2 times, that was with 2 full Neti pots full.
Avatar m tn I have a continuous problem with thick mucous in my throat. I must clear my throat a hundred times a day. My larnyx gets so full of the thick mucous that I almost choke and it causes my eyes to water. When this happens I hack up about a quarter cup of the stuff. I went to an ENT specialist who diagnosed sinusitis due to restricted airflow because of a deviated septum. After two surgeries for this there is no improvment. I've tried Musinex and steroid nose sprays. Nothing seems to help.
Avatar f tn I spoke to a prominent parasitologist and he told me the Canadian government has authorized Toltrazuril has been approved for Coccidiosis in dogs since October 18th and he is going to speak to the specialist for me. He is currently taking the sulfadimethoxine and doing much better I am having another stool sample taken on Monday and taking him to the specialist on Wednesday the 10th to get another opinion.
Avatar n tn I do notice that it tends to itch a little bit more in the lower half of my body. I noticed most of the time it happens in the evenings or when I am lying in my bed. I thought it might have been bedbugs or mites or something so I tried washing all my sheets, blankets, pillows. That didn't work so next I switched all the sheets, blankets, pillows, etc. Still was happening, so i switched mattresses with my father and its still itchy.
Avatar f tn If too much bile gets dumped into the small intestine - as in people or dogs who have had their gallbladders removed - explosive diarrhea can result. Bile is also what gives feces its brown color. If a dog's stool is light tan, that means bile is not getting into the small intestine. Same thing goes for humans. In the case of liver failure, I imagine there is a lack of bile available to aid in digestion; hence the nausea and vomiting.
Avatar f tn I take phenergan myself for constant nausea, and discovered late in the game that dogs can also take phenergan. It didn't work quite as well as the reglan, but at that point we tried anything we could get our hands on. Over the counter Dramamine for motion sickness can be tried as it is metabolized in the liver - got that info from an ER vet nearby.
Avatar f tn I would also say u could tie it in a knot, wow, gross! I was talking to my doc about my potential cancer/thyroid problems (proposed b/c of this throat thing) and he suggested instead that it could simply be a problem caused by the breathing so many particulates in the air. Its very dusty & dry & urban where I live. Possible solution then --> exercise + clean air breathing! Would only be temporary though. Also makes my think about one of those ionic air cleaning products...
Avatar f tn I have also had pain in my tongue when moving my head and neck. The last ER doc told me he thought the chest pain was connected to my back and shoulders and told me to take Advil. It was nice to find this forum and to know that I am not the only one going through this stuff.
Avatar n tn I've had eczema in my ears for 15 yrs. It is very cyclical, starting w/intense uncontrollable itching, then clear fluid leaking from skin, followed by crusting over & flaking of skin in ears that is itchy in & of itself, leading to more scratching & picking at ears. The skin in my ears gets very damaged and ratty during outbreaks. I also have swelling of the ear canal after these itch/scratch episodes that are sometimes quite painful, & Motrin helps that. Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
Avatar n tn I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
Avatar n tn I wake every morning with horrible pain in lower back (kidney area) that radiates to the front of stomach (rib area). I have had battery of tests and found nothing. I am only able to sleep 5-6 hours before pain wakes me, also unable to take a deep breath until I get out of bed (very painful just to roll over), once I stand and get out of bed the pain almost immediately starts to ease. After about 20 minutes of walking around and after first morning void, pain disappears for remainder of day.
Avatar n tn same here for months now started with flu like them to lungs, thought I was better after 12 weeks of flu, then the smells in my nose, sinus, lungs?..HORRID and some are very distinct and also some are multiple, some are triggered by certain smells, sometime I smell smoke, exhaust, rancid, just hard to explain, it drives me crazy! ]And my nose will burn also my lips. nothing really smells like it should and most things smell horrible, taste too....
Avatar f tn I tried to remove one with tweezers, and it was very tacky (as in sticky) and clearly goes deep under the skin. Part of it broke off but I could still see that the pore was plugged and a day or two later top of the plug was sticking out again. i can't find ANYTHING online that looks like it.
Avatar f tn HIV definitely is getting more attention and research funds with cancer running a close second. Why? Because it could immediately affect the big dogs in DC. They certainly are not going to get HCV for the simple fact that they all - at least we hope - do not use IV drugs, roll in the hay in hay with drug users or do anything else that we "slimeballs" that have HCV do. That is how everyone thinks we contracted this illness in the first place.
Avatar m tn I then had Nose surgery for a biopsy, and it came back negative, so no cancer (yay!). He said that is seems like the cells aren’t normal in my nose so it isn’t healing right. Here is the problem though, from the biopsy, he cut up my nose, and now that area he cut out will not heal either. So he took a small area that wouldn’t heal, and made it much larger. As disgusting as this sounds, it forms a scab and oddly resembles a craisin in size and color.
Avatar n tn In Bernese Mountain Dogs, a genetic familial susceptibility to the cancer has been observed. Other dogs that seem predisposed to histiocytic sarcoma include Flat-Coated Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and Rottweilers. Symptoms of canine histiocytic sarcoma include weight loss, low energy, limping and failure to eat. Chemotherapy has been mostly unsuccessful against this form of cancer, and most dogs succumb to the disease within months of diagnosis.
