Common Questions and Answers about Tongue numbness brain cancer

tongue

Avatar f tn i am 41 and diagnosed with a brain tumor years ago. Is new tongue and facial numbness a concern? Is it possible to have a tumor dormant this long and have deficits appear only every 5 years? It seems, to me,the deficits are spaced too far apart to mean anything critical, or even a tumor. My scans look horrible, but they have looked horrible for years. Most neurologists/surgeons look at scans and right away say, "Astrocytoma.
Avatar f tn Usually the disabilities are paralysis or problems controlling movement, sensory disturbance including using or understanding language, thinking and memory issues, etc. The effects of numbness tongue like speech difficulties and swallowing difficulties have to be tackled with and modifications made to suit. Speech language pathologists can help you with use of language and alternative means of communication. They also help you with the ability to swallow.

Avatar f tn A few years ago, while I was doing some housework I got a very strange sensation in the head, it was (this sounds strange but when I was young my big brother made me his personal 9volt battery tester) like the feeling you get when you put your tongue on a 9 volt battery. It lasted about 30 seconds and then went away, it ws followed by a slight dizzy spell and then nothing. Through the years then I've experianced them but recently I've gotten them quite frequently.
Avatar m tn Drinking too much alcohol puts you at higher risk for cancer of the pancreas, mouth, tongue, and throat. This risk is even greater if you also use tobacco products. Alcohol may cause liver cancer, fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and other liver disease. Drinking too much alcohol makes you lose protein, minerals, and vitamins. Alcohol affects thiamine (vitamin B-1) in particular. Your nerves, muscles, heart, and brain need thiamine to work normally.
Avatar f tn Last week after having a severe headache she had numbness on her right/left side of face, tongue, neck and right and left hands. A CT of the brain was done, which was clear!! But the Sonogram of the thyroid indicated a small 3.3x3.2x1.7mm hypoechoic nodule in the right thyroid lobe posteriorly. It said it was unclear to whether it is a small adenoma. the MD suggested that we follow up in one year.
Avatar f tn occasional burning pain in stomach, no other GI problems, good appetite, numbness in tip of the tongue, nausea, mild dizziness and headache, mostly like heavy head feeling, flushing of upper chest and neck. All blood work is normal; MRI of the brain negative, mildly enlarged thyroid with bilateral non vascularized nodules, positive for thyroid antibodies but normal thyroid function, negative for sjongren, lupus, RA, cholesterol ok, glucose level ok. I am waiting for a GI appt.

Avatar f tn He is now experiencing Left sided intermitent numbness and tingling which has started in his mouth and tongue. It then moved to include his first two fingers of the L hand. Then included his forearm, buttock, thigh and calf. It causes no weakness and only lasts for about 5 minutes. this has been going on for a month but progressively getting worse and lasting longer. A CAT scan shows a thickening in the Right Paridal Lobe .
Avatar n tn This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. Occipital neuralgia, TIA or ministroke, trigeminal neuralgia should also be looked into. Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth etc can all cause facial numbness and pain.
382218 tn?1341181487 Has anyone had sudden numbness of the tongue and lips, and if so, what caused this? Last night this sensation seemed to come on quite suddenly, and I thought to myself, here we go with another relapse. But after a few hours it was gone, and has not reappeared today. There was nothing out of the ordinary regarding my diet and activity level yesterday, no sudden rise in body temp, no infection (to my knowledge), etc.
Avatar f tn On occasions the tongue numbness is really bad but usually not long lasting but of late often my tongue on the underneath but just feels numb or like pressure or tight sensation. When this occurs I seem to have some type of head pain but more like a random shooting pain. I do sometimes get vertigo with my headaches as well and on occasion I have vomited when I have had had a headache at the back of my head (base) near neck.
Avatar n tn Pressure changes in this tube at times affect the flow of blood to tongue causing the tingling sensation. Facial numbness is felt even in accompanying sinusitis along with Eustachian tube block. High blood pressure, diabetes and thyroid problems should be ruled out and so also cervical spondylitis causing pressure on the nerves. This needs a more detailed investigation and probably you should consult your doctor and get yourself examined. You may need to undergo some tests too.
Avatar f tn is it true tht too much worries results in brain tumour or tht was her cancer in the breast which reached to the barin?????????plz reply and dont ignore my question..
Avatar n tn I recently had a shocker bringing my 70 year old dad to the emergency room. He had some numbness/weakness, and sort of a headache. The catscan showed a 'mass' in his brain, and he is scheduled for more tests. I am devastated about this. Is there anything optimistic that a doctor can tell me, if there are other possibilities than a brain tumor, or if it is a tumor, is it possible that is is slow growing and he can have years left?
Avatar m tn It does sound like you have had the right tests to determine the cause of the tongue numbness. When you say MRI does that mean a Brain MRI and was it with Contrast? If I were in your situation I would seek a second opinion, with a good Neurologist. I would find one associated with a large teaching hospital or one of our nationally know Clinics. Obviously it is not normal for your tongue to be numb and for it to shift to one side. Don't be dismissed.... get some answers.
1276400 tn?1270995712 The face, the tongue and inside of mouth. I have bilateral TN (both sides) and limb/body numbness too. Once, whole right side of my face feel so numb but I didn't think it would affect my tongue that much but then I couldn't speak 'normally' - like the whole mouth was full of my tongue and the words sounded so funny. Is this normal. I mean with TN? Is there any thing to help with the tongue numbness?

Avatar n tn Thank you Dr Newey for your reply to my post. The numbness is equal on both sides. The numbness started at the same time as the pulsing. The numbness is always there, but the sensation varies day by day. Sometimes no feeling, sometimes tingling, and sometimes extreme burning sensation on tongue, lips, teeth and starting to spread onto face. I thought I might mention that I do have degenerative disc disease. C3 through C7.
Avatar f tn My left eye and face has begun to twitch and i have some tongue numbness. Can you please tell me what these symptoms sound like.
16744917 tn?1451266839 Hello, everyone! ! I had my first surgery the 29th and I have some numbness of the tongue. I was wondering if any of you have experienced this and if it's normal. Avatar f tn I've been having strange symptoms for years - numbness/tingling of feet, leg, arm, fingers and recently in my face with swelling and numbness in my tongue.
Avatar f tn My husband, age 53, was diagnosed with cancer at the base of the tongue 3 years ago. He underwent 7 weeks of radiation therapy, weekly chemo (Taxol), and amofostine injections. Always fairly "air headed", I have noticed a distinct increase in his forgetfulness. There also seems to be subtle personality changes. Are there studies that indicate this type of treatment might trigger early onset dementia?
