Avatar f tn t kill microscopic cancer cells elsewhere in the body but only inhibits their growth...vs Chemo which actually kills cancer cells. Can you clear this up for me? I think if I really pushed for chemo he'd do it. I feel like the decision I make now will determine my fate. I don't want to regret it. By the way, lymph nodes were negative and no vascular invasion. Would the more aggressive treatment be chemo?

Avatar f tn Hello, I have an appointment with my endo next week and I want to discuss options for my goiter. Sometimes, it hurts to swallow pills and my tongue is becoming more sore. Also, I can feel the pain in my ears and my eyes are sore. My optometrist examined my eyes two months ago and said he sees no sign of them pulling away, but I'm just concerned that this goiter will get worse. I just began my Synthyroid treatment a month ago for Hashi, and know I will need to have my dose raised.
Avatar n tn I believe you previously posted a thought of having nothing done to treat your cancer. Please have the recommended surgery and follow-up treatment. A lumpectomy is not a big deal; outpatient procedure with rapid recovery time. Cancer cannot and should not be ignored .... yours is such an early finding with a fairly simple solution. The lumpectomy followed by radiation is the accepted treatment for a case such as you describe ...
Avatar m tn It is recommended that I have 6 treatments - 3 weeks apart of Taxol(175mg/m2) /carboplatin Chemo for a Stage 1C - grade 3 fallopian tube cancer. Are there any other options? Is it effective to just use carboplatin as it does not promote hair loss? Or...fewer treatments...or smaller doses?? I read that "cold caps" can reduce hair loss...anyone used these?

Avatar n tn My dad has been diagnosed with colon cancer and needs Chemo- there are many chemo options and he's trying to decide which one to take. He doesn't want to take one that will make him loose his hair or cause him to loose weight. Does anyone have any experience with the different chemo options, and is there a specific type you can recommend? How bad are the side effects? Is the prognosis following chemo good? Any information will be appreciated. I'm very worried. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Today I saw my doctor who was quite refreshed from rest at home. He recommended two treatment options, one is injection once a week and the other is baraclude by mouth once daily. Because the former has side effects that may cause me (the bread earner of my family) to stop working, I immediately chose the latter, which costs $2200 per 90 days. Would appreciate your sharing your experience if you have used baraclude before. Thank you.
1135532 tn?1265056071 Interferon in combination with ribivirin is the current standard of care (SOC) for HCV treatment. Research goals are to find a different treatment than interferon but that is probably many years away. If patient tested positive to antibodies for HCV but a PCR test to detect RNA of the virus in the blood comes back negative, no treatment is necessary.
Avatar f tn It is possible that these nodules are metastases from his base of the tongue cancer. The decision to give or not to give further cancer treatment/s will depend on a lot of things. Consider the age of the patient, risks and benefits of treatment, possible side effects, and end point in making a decision. For now, your father needs the best supportive care he can get. Take care.
Avatar f tn m not sure if this is a severe canker sore, or a symptom of a type of mouth cancer. Please advise!! Over-the-counter options? Health care is expensive, so I'd rather not see a doctor. THANK YOU!!
Avatar n tn t want to live my last years, or months, in a debilitating state battling cancer. He also knows that 15 years ago I had invasive ductal cancer in my other breast and had a mastectomy. My lymph nodes were clear. I didn't have chemo, radiation or hormonal therapy. In pre-op counseling he explained that breast cancer in the elderly spreads slowly and seemed quite certain that I wouldn't die of cancer. He recommended lumpectomy, no lymph node removal and hormonal therapy.

Avatar m tn preference and should be made after all the risks and benefits of all treatment options have been explained and are understood. Seeking multiple opinions is a good idea but can sometimes confuse patients on the best treatment. That said, opinions of which option to chose vary in the urologic community as the absolute “best” treatment option for all patients is controversial– it is a decision best made on a case-by-case basis.
Avatar m tn If we are strictly talking about lung cancer, the differentiation is based on whether the cancer has small cell features. The origin is not really important in determining treatment options, and hence, there is no routine testing done to perform this function of differentiation. Stay positive.
