I have had a sharp pain under my rib cage, right side. It feels like a leg cramp, but under the rib cage, and locks me up pretty good for about 5-10 minutes. On occasion, it feels like a spasm in that it twitches. It happens about 1-2 times a month, usually when I am holding my child or bending over. Any ideas?

I've been having severe pain on the right side under my rib cage for ages now. I suffered from water infections since last april and have been back to the doctors and hospital many times! I've done numerous urine samples, and many of the times i've had an infection there but that doesnt seem to be the problem. I have also been for an ultrsound scan on my kidneys with everything clear. Also had an internal scan on my womb and ovaries with everything with that clear too.
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! If you have pain under your right rib then there could be a liver infection or a gall bladder problem. Get a liver function test, ultrasound or CT of abdomen, and pancreatic enzymes. It can also be due to acidity and duodenal ulcer. Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. Walking around also helps clear gas.
I'm a 51 yr. old female, who has had pain under the right rib, very low under the rib, for about two months. The pain feels like a fist stuck under my rib, or like a balloon about to explode. I had a CT scan which showed a small liver lesion, but my liver profile tests were normal. The pain is constant and getting worse. I've also had an ultrasound, which confirmed the liver lesion, but showed no gallstones. I am weak, exhausted, and very pale.
HI i have been having pain right under my right breast right on my upper ribs If i lift my arm up or move a certain way it will hurt. also to touch it hurts like pushing on a bad bruise. this pain has stayed for a week or two then will stop then will come back again in 6 weeks or so. I also had breast implants a year ago so not sure if it has something to do with that? Any advice would be appreciated.
My stomach seems to be blooting again and I now have a soft mass under my right breast and the top of my rib cage growing very guickly 12mmx7mm . It appeared over a two week time period and of course is still growning. My question is I am allergic to iodine, however the only way they found just a small part of the last tumor was because I used the iodine in the first CT. SCAN. so what do I do , My hands hurt to type my feet are swelling and its hard to walk and now have to take pain killers.
approximately one month ago, i awoke with pain in my upper rib cage area. it was approximately in the area under my breast closer to the middle. it was severe enough to require pain meds. as it did not go away after two weeks, i went to my gp. she ordered a ultrasound to check for gallstones and anything on the liver. the test came back showing nothing. since then, the pain has moved away from the middle and closer to the right side. it is can range from mild to pretty severe pain.
I have now started recently having come of some drugs - with this band under my rib cage and pain down the centre of my rib cage. On listening to some of the comments above, some seem to think it is related to the Gastrointestinal part of the body, which would fit in with my condition, so perhaps this is part of the bowel system. I am due to have a second opinion in the next two weeks so will have this checked out, will come back if I find any information relating to this.
Hey I'm 17 and I have a burning pain under my right rib cage it's been going on for awhile now it comes and goes and it stays for about a day or so everytime. It is right under my breast and is red when it burns.
I have a pretty intense pain under my left boob that seems to be by the rib cage. It hurts a little more when I take a deep breath. I have had this pain for almost more than 24 hours. It pretty much hurts all the time and even when i sleep and im either laying on that side or the other or even when i lay on my back. What could this be?
I am 51, non smoker and been in fairly good health but been overweight by about 60 lbs. I have had a pain on the left side under rib cage for 3 years on and off. This past summer I changed my diet and lost 40 lbs and been doing fairly well. Pain went away until yesterday after a big and fatty Thanksgiving meal. I am returning to my diet! I have doing over 200 crunches for the past 3 months, some cardio exercises and stretches to keep a back pains away and strengthen my core.
I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago due to a constant pain on the right hand side under the rib cage. Within six months the pain was back and it seems to be getting worse than before the surgery. I have had half a dozen ultrasounds and nothing. It is very frustrating as I am eating nothing but soft foods and not too much of that. Despite the reduced diet I don't seem to be loosing any weight - quite the opposite and I am a very active person.
Well I've had pain in my right side, beneath the rib cage. So maybe I should be in the "right" side thread. Also have had occassional sharp, stomach pains. I was first prescribed a prescription antacid. That didn't seem to help, as the problem seemed to be more prevalent in my right side. I also had blood work done to check for liver problems. Everything appeared pretty normal. I have just gone for an ultrasound and am awaiting the results of that.
Ever since 4 weeks ago when I had my surgery I have been having bad pain under my rib cage again. Also pain in the chest, behind breast bone, pain between shoulder blades, stomach aches and soreness. Not to add the pinching and stabbing pains in my heart I get to where I can't even breath. I was so scared I was having a heart attack one day that I went tgo emergeny room and they ran some test to check out my heart and the doctor says my heart was fine.

About four years ago I was reaching for something in a cubbard when I had a sudden severe muscle spasm (like a severe leg cramp) in my right upper stomach directly under my rib below my breast. The pain was so severe I had to lay very still before it finally went away and I was very tender in that spot for a couple of days. The pain continued every time I stretched from my right side. Now even bending to tie my shoes or make my bed causes the same severe reaction . this is on a daily basis.
For the last week or so I've been having an occasional stabbing pain near the bottom of my left rib and other times right under my left breast. It was stabbing pain randomly, but now it's just a dull pain whenever I bend over or lean over. It's gotten so bad that I practically have to be laying down to keep it from hurting. It almost feels like there's a bubble underneath my ribs.
I recently was diagnosed with Diverticulosis and IBS. I have had a pain under my lower right rib cage and around my lower right ovary area. The pain is further complicated due to a pinched disk in my lower back found when I was admitted to the hospital for four days of tests recurrence of these problems has gone on for one year last october and finally got to the point I couldn't handle anymore.
It really never heals as because its the ligamnent that attaches your rib cage to ur breast bone. I'm not in constant pain but I do feel the pain everyday. Bending, reaching, cold weather, 2 much caffene all effects it. Have u tried aleve or naproxen? Or even something like tramadol?.
in my under arm and somewhat into my breast, shoulder and shoulde blade, rib cage (side) and the back of my rib cage. The pain is mostley when I turn or twist. I have been to a pain mangement dr that put me on tryciclids (2 different kinds), my primary dr that said he thinks I have Fibromyalgia, a new primary dr that can't seem to think of anything, a chiropractor, and physical therapy. Nothing has helped. I have taken 4 different pain med, prozac, cymbalta, 3 different muscle relaxers.
I am not yet diagnosed, but I get it with different type sensations i.e. right rib discomfort, sharp right rib pain, sharp right chest pain, and also the sensation where I cannot get my breath, like something sitting on my rib cage. Also when I am walking for exercise sometimes I get to the point where I cannot catch my breath. Sometimes also after going to bed at night, I will notice that I cannot breathe in and out with a full inspiration/expiration.
Dear Nay Nay, The heart is located to the left of the center of the chest. If the pain is worsened by cough or palpation then it is unlikely to be your heart. However, since I have not spoken with you personally or examined you, I would recommend seeing a physician.
