Methadone and fibromyalgia

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and fibromyalgia

methadose

Hi, A combination of Lyrica and Methadone has been found to be effective in controlling Fibromyalgia pain. Methadone may be administered alone without a combination because it is a potent analgesic. It is a narcotic analgesic similar to Morphine. However it is not used commonly for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. It has some serious side effects. Risk of serious side effects may occur even if patient has used other narcotic medications and if the drug is used improperly.
I took methadone for 3 years for Fibromyalgia. Luckly I am a VA vet so they mailed me 20mg a day in one months supply for $8. It stopped working so well. I went off of it cold turkey (some people don't recommend that) and had very mild agitation, little sleep and wierd dreams for about 5 days. After that I was off of it. I switched to Lyrica. seems to work better than methadone. If you have not taken methadone as suscribed then you might have to taper off of it.
Please give me your opinionon methadone for pain control of Rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia.
I live in WI and do not have any answers for you. Keep looking. Methadone is being prescribed more and more for chronic pain. There are some great articles written by well know and respected PM Physicians regarding the use of methadone in pain management. It has less side effects and has a much lower rate of abuse. When I have a moment I will see if I can find those articles. Maybe if you took it to your physician they would understand the benefits.
I'm now on methadone and would MUCH rather be on methadone than oxys. Oxys are SO dangerous and the side effects are disturbing. It works VERY well, but the more you take, the more you need, and then you're in a downward spiral and addicted to pain killers. At least with methadone, there aren't any serious health risks (if taken properly) and it doesn't make you feel high and useless (oxys made me feel this way) anyway, I think oxys should be banned...
My doc has recently taken me off methadone and he says I have fibromyalgia. I have severe back pain only. I haven't slept since the detox. It was a 5 week detox and 1 week since I took my last dose. It has been horrible. I do not recommend Methadone unless you'll be on it forever. I regret ever trying it. It has made me different. I am dealing with depression, sleep problems. daytime fatigue and very high blood pressure. My doctor has not given me any replacement medicine.
I first wanted to thank everyone for there help and support. I've been on Methadone for 1 1/2, started tapering 2 mo. ago. I am having a hard time with being on methadone, I feel like I traded 1 demon for another, and I just want off of it! I am having a really lousy day today, I have absolutely no energy, I am extremely nauseated and everything hurts all over. People tell me that I shouldn't be feeling so crappy on just tapering 2mg/2wk. But I truly feel like hell. I just want off this crap.
With opiates, you build up a tolerance and soon the perks wont work. Whereas methadone you don’t build a tolerance for it and it helps with pain. I’m going to have pain for the rest of my life and I am only 25, already had surgery, which helped with the nerve pain but now i just have chronic pain and aches. My doctor even said that I wouldn’t be fully pain-free. What’s wrong with being on methadone instead of opiates especially if it helps with pain?
I always think if I can sleep through the bad times I can make it but the only sleep I can get is if I take xanax or somas. Was out of xanax and broke down and took somas. I had not been taking them. So now I have let myself down. I swear, I hate this stuff!! I hate it so much. The last time I had bad reactions to methadone I went a good while without pain meds or xanax but this time, I have been in such pain I took the pain meds the doc. gave me for my shoulder.
Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that there are LOTs of differences in these medications. Tradmodol is a narcotic-like pain reliever that is indicated for treatment of chronic pain. Methadone is a very long acting narcotic pain reliever that is often used for maintenance therapy for persons who have been addicted to morphine or heroin. It is also used for chronic pain. Both drugs cause habituation, and both have the potential for addiction.
I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
you will experience some rebound pain when you come off the pain meds this is normal i have an an auto immune disorder as a result of liver disease, the pain is somwhat comparable to fibro.
Im in the same boat, i have fibromyalgia, and a ruptured disc in my back that i have to have surgery on in the near future, and i just got off methadone 40 days ago and i was going through serious wd,s AND back pain, my dr. gave me lyrica which helps alot. dont take the trams because your swithing one addicting drug for another and eventually u will have to withdraw from that too.
I have been on methadone for the past five years not for and addiction problem though. I have a pain disorder called fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with it 5 years ago. I was feeling better when I first started. I was able to function almost like a normal person. After my dose went up after time to 90 mgs my doctor advised me to switch to suboxene. I was very apprehensive of withdrawls. My doctor tapperd me off.
I was just prescribed Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain and take 100mgs of methadone daily for pain as well. Hopefully i can come off the methadone soon. My question is, has anyone heard of lyrica causing withdrawal symptoms when taken w/methadone? I was given Tramadol(Ultram) w/ methadone and thought I was going to die with the interaction it caused!!!
I am having terrible pain with Fibromyalgia that goes along with hep c for some. And also mild depression on the scare of a disease that could kill me after the drug use did not!
Failed to do that several times due to blood pressure rising and a convulsion. Needless to say I am totally away from anyone in the drug using world. I do have fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease, My Rheumatologist is hard to get in to see quickly but I am wondering if savella she gave me could cause serotonin syndrome? All I take is is lisinopril savella and the methadone. Could methadone contribute to serotonin with the milnacipran? the savella seems to be helping my fibro.
For four months I was on Oxycontin, methadone and percocet 50 mgs a day for the methadone. I took my last pill lasy Sunday morning because I just couldn't take the sweats it gave me.I was put on a newdrug that was a morphine type but the 3 days I thought I was going to die. My husband took me to the emergency room, to be told I was withdrawling. I was given 2 weeks worth of Clonidine patches and sent home. I haven't not slept going on 75 hours. PLEASE how long before I will fall asleep????

because of all pain throughout the years I became addicted to narcotic pain killers and am now in a methadone treatment program. When I dont have the lmethadone I hurt so much worse.I think I have included everything but hey my memory sucks so maybe I am missing something. The only place I have to see a doctor is either the ER or the neighborhood clinic and both places blow me off and say its minor, it will go away.
I HAVE BEEN ON METHADONE NOW FOR 13 YEARS FOR FIBROMYALGIA AND R.A. I STARTED @ 60MGS DAILY. AND GOT AN INCREASE TO 240MGS FROM 60MGS ALL IN 1 MONTH! AND WAS ON THAT DOSAGE LEVEL 4 OVER 3 YEARS! THEN SUDDENLY MY DOCTOR WAS INVOLVED IN A LAWSUIT CONCERNING A WOMAN OVERDOSING DUE TO TAKING METHADONE AND KLOPONINS TOGETHER. WHICH I AM PRESCRIBED TOGETHER AS WELL. SO HE STARTED ACTING DIFFERENTLY AND HE CUT MY METHADONE DOSE IN HALF! WHICH MADE MY PAIN OUT OF CONTROL AGAIN!
I didn't read all of the posts but I did see you mention that methadone is and opiate. And yea it is an opiate, discovered in the search for an opiate that was different in chemical structure to morphine. That's why it became good for dependency and addicts. It had a dual action: while it binds to your opiate receptors, it also blocks the action of other opiates eliminating withdrawal and hindering you from getting a high from taking any other opiates.
I was on methadone about 5 years and took about a year and a half to tapper down from 75 mgs to 3mgs. I was horrified to discover after coming down so slowly to such a tiny amount that I had withdrawal. It has been a week now and I still feel badly. any Ideas?
I am 64 yrs old and was forced to retire from teaching (even volunteering) due to my post interferon tx and/or fibromyalgia and/or polymyalgia rheumatica issues. I write all of the "and/or's" because no doctor has been able to figure it out. I've also had a few spine injections (cervical and lumbar facet blocks) as my old spine has many flaws, but do they cause the head to toe pain? We just don't know.
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IT DOES NOT GET BETTER, IT GETS WORSE AND I HAVE LIVED THAT. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO HAVE IT AND ASKED FOR THE TRUTH. I CAN LIVE WITH THE TRUTH MUCH BETTER THAN A LIE, YOU KNOW,THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE? I KNOW ALOT OF WOMEN THAT WORK BUT IT IS EXTREMELY HARD FOR THEM. WHAT KIND OF MEDS ARE YOU ON????LOVE....
due they have shorter methadone programs, she also said they want cash and you can try to get your ins to reinburse you. i have no experence with these programs. any input would help.
My boyfriend of 9 months who is an accident victim was prescribed Methadone and Opana just got out of rehab himself, but around Thanks Giving, I broke my finger and he was giving me his doses of Methadone... It's now June and I'm still on it. Only him and I know I'm on it, I refuse to tell my doctors or anyone because I'm also a Celiac and Fibromyalgia patient and I don't want to ruin my chances for getting help. I am down to taking a quarter of a tablet a day.
Has any one here been on antidepressants while on methadone? Alot of drugs for fibro and arthritis are blocked by the methadone, so I am hoping the antidepressants could do their job while I treat for hep c. I am on 120 MG at this time, coming down from 160 in a year. Feedback welcome!
I take it for chronic pain, Fibromyalgia and OA pain. I am very short tempered and seem to over react to things i normally wouldnt over react to. I only noticed my severe personality change when last month the doctor tried putting me on a different medication which i only took for 2 weeks (Nuaycta) and had to stop due to chest and breathing issues. Is it possible that the Methadone im on is having a profound effect on my personality?
