Gabapentin vs gaba

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin vs gaba

neurontin

I am not familiar with any of the other medications for these types of symptoms - the GABApentin is the first one I have taken. It is my understanding that the GABApentin is the one with the fewest side effects...but of course everyone is different, so that may not be the case for everyone who tries it.
Hi...sorry the Topamax didn't work..... What is GABA?...do u mean GABApentin?...if so, I took that a few yrs ago and I had side effects that affected my IBS....and from what others reported it works great at first, but wears off or u get accustomed to it.... Not sure what the HTP-5 is....interested in hearing about it.
Monday I will get better next step answers but wondering how GABApentin has worked for others.. I am Leary about trying more medicine... But desperate for the squeeze of death to go away!!! Cheers to all!!
I have a prescription for 100mg of GABApentin to take 3x a day. Does anyone know how much to take for cold turkey opiate withdrawal? And should I let the GABApentin build up in my body before I stop taking the hydro? From what I've read GABApentin works like a neurotransmitter reuptake accelerator/inhibitor and needs to build up in the system for a few days before it works to its full potential.
That could help quite a lot because it works on GABA the neurotransmitter that benzos work on.It is not addicting like the benzos but helps in withdrawals without being a benzo. There are some situations where people have a type of withdrawal after being on it for a long time..but that is really rare I think I was understating it when I used the word "discomfort"...I did not mean to underestimate your pain.. As I have said before...
In the cases of pain not relieved by opiates, anti-seizure (Keppra, Tegritol, etc.) or GABA (GABApentin, preGABAlin, etc) medication are used to alter the way nerves conduct the impulses. What the drugs attempt to do is raise the voltage threshold (gating potential) required for specific ion channels in the nerve to conduct. This can reduce the "electrical storm" that causes seizures and reduce the signals getting through that cause neuropathic pain. Hope that is not overload.
Lyrica was the replacement for the older medicine -- Gabin -- which is only a GABA analogue copy called GABApentin that contains the synthetic and more expensive form of GABA(Gamma-Aminobutyric acid) which is just a natural body vitamin. So why not save some money and avoid all those synthetic drug side effects by just take ordinary natural form of GABA instead? This, of course, will only help to manage your pain but will not cure your condition.
But for my own personal records, I also keep track of the number of days off subs at 82 days. THEN, I went off GABApentin....nerve damage med, and that clock is at 33 days. It, too, affects GABA receptors in the brain, affects sleep, and is being "touted" by some as a way to ease w/d from opiates. I chose......for myself......to be clean of ALL meds for the first time in a very long time. I'm trying to find out how I am/who I am........w/o even an AD or GABA affecting my brain.
Sooo good to hear from 3 of you! Yes, today is 59 clean. Do you count suboxone w/d days, too? I have 31 of those included in that 59? I was having huge lo blood press issues like 79/59 & dizzy EVERY X upon arising. It's up to 120/82 for 3 days now!! I am only dizzy a little, but oh sooo tired still. & my pain is really bad....the advil and tylenol aren't cutting it at all. (wreck & then 3 yrs later back surgery) I drove for the 1stX since June today & did pretty good.
Am excited to try that. 2. Worse in heat (seasonal), hot showers vs. cold showers, swelling, inflammation on nerves....makes total sense. So does barometric pressure changes. I live in AZ and the monsoons are here. We can have sunny 115 F day, and that afternoon, it changes to a huge rainstorm and 80 F. Also, I am way more active in the summer and at the end of the day...more itchy. 3. Pillow change, side sleeping....yup, makes perfect sense...I have had neck/shoulder problems for years.

I had a lot of relief with GABApentin. The neurologist prescribed it to me and I started off with a low dose (100 mg) per day. The maximum benefit, for me, was when I took 300 mg 4 times per day. One in the morning, at lunch, around 6 pm, and right before bed. It took the itching away for a good while (at least 6 months). I'm not sure if I built a tolerance to the drug but, I've read that the most benefit is experienced at some point and then it tapers off.
In the last couple weeks it has greatly increased on my right side going deep in my pelvis to my waist. The last few days going up my ribs and one night across my chest feeling like I couldnt breathe well. My difficulty swallowing has increased. Sleep apnea has increased. I have no taste. My heart rate last few months is 99 or up. Because of the medical problems the last few years I do have GABA, baclofen and pain meds that just do not touch this.
(At 17, Mitzi' teeth are not the strongest) OR, the anesthesia tube down her throat (if that method was done vs IV), could of broken one of her teeth or at the very least, loosened it. I do hope her jaw wasn't affected (just a guess) that's what the crunching sound you hear. She may now be coming down wrong on her existing teeth? I hope your vet has as least visually looked in her mouth manually.
I was also diagnosed with Brachioradial Pruritius. My doctor prescribed GABApentin 100 mg 3xdaily along with a twice daily application of Fluocinonide Cream 0.05% and the horrible itching went from a scale of 10 to around 1 or 2 within a few days. It still itches a bit but it's nothing like the nightmare itching before I began the GABApentin and Fluocinonide. Please give it a try folks. It has made a miracle difference in my life.
This is still just his opinion I still have no diagnosis unless you count that as a diagnosis. Just had a full spinal MRI will see him soon. On GABApentin 3 times a day for the burning and parathesias that I get. Believe I am getting worse and it scares me. Want an answer (I think) Limbo Lander, Udkas.
