4340011 tn?1353122086 Kidney function needs to be re-assessed as you had a problem in recent past. Polycythemia vera can also affect your kidney function. You also need to get liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar m tn He used Atenlol and various other tablets suggested by ESI for blood pressure and NeurokindG (Gabapentin and Mecobalamin Tablets) for his disc problem. Avatar n tn my bun is 63 and my creatine is 8.02 and im 60 yrs. old.
Avatar f tn Make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss this problem with him. If he has not prescribed for you to increase the medication, then it really is not wise to increase it without his supervision. It may be that this could be a side effect from increasing the dose. You doctor will be able to advise you with regard to this. If you are having a problem with trying to pee, take a urine sample with you when you see your doctor.
1326572 tn?1275500911 My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
Avatar f tn s important to point out that both galliprant and gabapentin will both be having an adverse effect on kidney function. Sadly, these are difficult choices we have to make as owners, and by veterinarians too. Trying to deal with one health concern often means we give medications that will cause problems for another one, and that's the case here with these two medications.
Avatar f tn First off, it bothers me when people say "abusing pills". Sorry, but you can not abuse an inanimate object. I also hate it when people confuse physical dependence with addiction. They are different in my book. Anyway, I am having a problem with my back hurting in my kidney area.
Avatar n tn You can progress very rapidly to NO kidney function and be on dialysis and having to wait for a kidney transplant. And we all know how that one goes--there is a shortage of transplantable kidneys and they go to the people who have been on the list the longest. So get to a kidney doctor now!
Avatar m tn I am taking nuerotin, Provigil, and copaxone. Last month during a blood test the Dr said my kidneys are working alot harder than they had been 6 months ago. I am currently having weird back pain and not feeling very well. Could the drugs be making my kidneys work to hard? (Along with the gallon of diet coke I drink a day). I searched the net and found some facts on how these drugs affect your kidneys...anyone else had these problems? Thanks.
1218873 tn?1300091216 My consultant asked my GP to over see the swap over to Lyrica. So this is the plan. This means to begin with lowering the gabapentin dose by 300mg every 3 days (I'm on 1800mg at the moment) and then when I'm down to 600mg of gabapentin a day I start to add the pregabalin 75mg to begin with then upping it every 3 days till I reach 300mg a day at the same time still reducing the gabapentin to zero. Hope that makes sense.
Avatar f tn When Dad is in heart failure he needs additional dosages of diaretics. Too much diaretic can effect kidney function and too little will effect heart function. We did see a kidney specialist concerning this, and the primary care physician is in communication with him. Dad also has vascular dementia. I know how hard dealing with memory loss can be for both patient and family. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Avatar m tn and creatinine is very poor test for kidneys function, for example body builders can have high creatinine but everything is fine...it is too dependent on muscles and many with kidneys damage never get it abnormal much better all the other tests by the way hbv damages kidneys too, it can infect kidneys but not replicate there.
Avatar f tn I have had back pain around kidney area for a few months and went to docs. She examined me and said my right kidney was inflammed. I was starting to get some pain right side under ribcage too. Mild dull ache type pain. Also still around side and back. Went back 2 weeks later and she examined again and said kidney had gone down but could still feel it. Sent me for an Ultrasound scan. I went on Wednesday this week.Thursday the surgery called me to make appointmen for a blood test (LFT).
Avatar n tn Two normal kidneys account for 100% of kidney function. A single kidney provides about 50% of kidney function. One can lead a normal life with one kidney as long as the single kidney remains healthy. When kidney function drops to less than 50% of normal, the risk of health problems increases. Serious health problems are more frequent when kidney function drops to below 20%. Dialysis or transplant is necessary if kidney function falls to 15% or below.
Avatar n tn His cardiac surgeon was concerned going into surgery about his right kidney because of his kidney function. He has had kidney stones in past and has had problems since with it. I'm hoping this is just due to surgery since it was an 8 hour procedure. Any info about this would be helpful.
1218873 tn?1300091216 ve had experience with Gabapentin and amitryline. Currently I take 900 mg Gapapentin 3X daily. I have been taking it for years and although it made me very sleepy at first, I seem to have become acclimated to, it but it did take awhile. When I first started the Gab. I slowly worked up to 200 mg amitryline, but that was just too much (I was comatose) as I was trying to work at the time. Have you discussed the possibility of taking detrol.
Avatar f tn I know from my own kidney disease (CKD) and my siblings and mother kidney problems that we have PKD. It’s genetic from one parent which means it starts later in in life (30+yrs or older). If both parents carry the gene then problems start in early childhood. My daughters started at age 2 and she is 43 with high BP and other kidney problems. Drugs can cause problems but you usually recover with minimal damage.
Avatar f tn The blood urea nitrogen or BUN test is primarily used, along with the creatinine test, to evaluate kidney function. Those with advanced cirrhosis may have an impact on kidney function as their liver function progressively fails. This is why the creatinine level is one the the blood tests that make up the MELD score that determines the need for liver transplantation. Typically when a patient experiences Hepatorenal Syndrome as a result of cirrhosis a HIGH creatinine level is seen.
Avatar m tn What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for.
Avatar f tn Pregabalin (Lyrica) is similar to gabapentin (Neurontin) and may be more effective, but usually kidney stones require opiates -- they can be quite painful. best wishes.
Avatar f tn If you are youngish and have excellent kidney function these drugs can clear the body pretty quickly; there is a wide variation in the normal population. The gabapentin is because 600mg is the maximum allowed dose of pregabalin (in Australia), and by taking gabapentin at night I can squeeze a few more hours of lower pain out of the day. Gabapentin's only real side effect has been a little queasiness.
Avatar m tn Kidney function tests are common procedures used to evaluate kidney (renal) function. Refer to the following documents for details of how each test is performed: BUN Creatinine - blood Creatinine clearance Creatinine - urine http://www.umm.edu/ency/article/003435.
