Avatar f tn Post your FT4 and FT3 levels. How much Synthroid are you taking? You may need more Synthroid or some T3 like Cytomel added to your Synthroid. You still sound hypothyroid. Also, has this doctor checked your adrenals with the 24 hour saliva test? Many hypos will have adrenal fatigue, which will also cause us to be tired. I am feeling MUCH better since starting adrenal cream. BTW - Why are you on thyroid hormone? Hashimoto's Disease?
Avatar n tn Hi, if a person has purple fingernails all the time, can that person have a thyroid disorder?
Avatar n tn Hello, I just got my thyroid test back and these are my results. They are all in the range but on the low end, should i be concerned. free t4 0.7 range is 0.7 to 2.5 free t3 3.1 range is 2.5 to 6.5 tsh 0.5 range is 0.5 to 3.
Avatar f tn I have these white lines on my fingernails that run parallel to the cuticle. They have areas in the white line that are heavier and make the line look like a spot. They cover the nail in it's entirety. I have taken zinc for year now with no real change. I am concerned about taking too much zinc since it was removed from some dental products. My hypoyroidism is controlled with medication. I do not suffer trauma to my hands. I am 55 yes old and have had these for as long as I can remember.
Avatar n tn Hi, I suppose this isn't a Thyroid question, but I thought it might be a metabolic problem and if you could help. All during my youth, I had these solid white patches under my fingernails in different spots, on and off....Very obvious white spots that aren't normally there.
687079 tn?1230948612 hi today my hands are cold and my fingernails have just the slightest tint of blue to them i am also weak (my thyroid is getting pretty low t4 ) but i get this weakness a lot i checked my bp and it was fine 120/74 heart rate is steady no pain or anything, my lips are not blue - i called the endo and she said low thyroid would not do this so not to worry, i was wondering if anyone else had this? i know we have a lot of symptoms that the docs do not recognize so.....
649848 tn?1534633700 Although our body does change as we get older, a lot of the things we put down to age are actually due to other causes. Because almost every cell in the body requires thyroid hormones, a lot of our body changes can be thyroid related because that's one thing that does, often decline with age - thyroid output.
Avatar f tn do you think they need to increase your thyroid meds? and have they checked you for arthritis? low thyroid can cause many problems as you already know and hairloss is one of them. are you taking a good multivitamin? 53 is not old at all. keep after your dr. about what's going on. i would ask them to check your legs for p.a.d just to be safe. of course that would'nt be the problem with your wrists, still it would'nt hurt to check your legs for that.
2178116 tn?1337609281 d suggest testing prior to supplementing. Also, it would be a good idea to have thyroid antibodies tested (TPOab and TGab) to see if your low thyroid levels are due to Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease. If you have Hashi's, adding iodine can exacerbate the condition. Hashi's is the most prevalent cause of hypo in the developed world. Your labs are "borderline". Whether you should be treated now or not depends on how much your symptoms bother you.
1674823 tn?1307263620 I have been noted to have domed fingernails but not apparently 'clubbed' They have been like this as long as I can remember What might cause domed nails but not clubbed. ???
745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar f tn I am a 50 yr old female and my fingernails are curling over. This started when I had my thyroid remove due to cancer. All my bloodwork, which is done every 6 weeks, comes back normal. I have no heart problems, no ashma or lung problems. I have asked all my doctors but nobody can tell me why this is happening or what can be done about it. What next?
Avatar f tn The thyroid gland is in the front of the neck just below the voice box . It releases hormones that control metabolism. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is inflammation of the thyroid gland, which damages the gland's cells. Autoimmune or Hashimoto's Disease, that's when the immune system attacks the thyroid gland.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 8-9 months ago, have been on levothyroxine (sp?) since. I was doing some more in depth studying about it and it turns out that I've probably had this for the past 2-3 years as most of my symptoms started occuring then. Crazy, eh? One thing that has been problematic, is the appearance of my fingernails, they look diseased.
Avatar m tn If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand. I think I already know the answer but I would appreciate a response. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have dry skin, ingrown fingernails, hair loss and weight gain and need to see if there are vitamins I can take to assist in these problem areas.
Avatar m tn Six months ago she began to have severe headaches followed by difficulty breathing, and chest discomfort. Her fingernails and toenails would turn blue and her hands and feet would be cold. She began to have muscle spasms which first started in her legs but recently her arm muscles have begun to spasm. We have been to seven different doctors and three emergency rooms but no one can find anything that could be causing these symptoms. Thursday she is scheduled to see a neurologist.
Avatar n tn Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
Avatar f tn Your doctor should, IMHO, test other hormones than just your thyroid. If your thyroid is off, you may or may not be fertile, as hormones may interfere with your health. The infections, weight gain etc. may or may not be the thyroid, but other things also need to be checked into as well. There may be something going on - but they have not run the correct tests.
Avatar n tn Four days ago a friend of mine -- who has a problem with my sexual acts -- told me I should stop because I can get HIV if semen gets underneath my fingernails. He told me that underneath the fingernail is mucous membranes that will get infected. I cant find any information about this but it cant be true can it?!?? Short hand -- IF I get semen underneath my fingernails am i at risk for HIV?????
Avatar m tn I was just wondering if anyone had any clue what these symptoms could indicate if it has nothing to do with my thyroid. Losing my fingernails and hair is getting a little scary especially since no one seems to be close to figuring out what is going on. Does anyone have any ideas as to what should be looked at more closely? Perhaps with some educated suggestions I could spark some ideas for my doctor and get her searching down a warmer path? Or at least lift a little frustration off of myself.
Avatar n tn I get hot and flushed and my menstural period has stopped. I have also notice that my fingernails are breaking and peeling. I feel anxious and am constantly worring that there may be more to this, not just my thyroid. I was stupid enough to read too much about it and see that autoimmune diseases are related (don't even know if I have Grave's). This worring is driving me crazy! From what I understand it is most likey my thyroid that is causing me to be so on edge.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had fingernails split down middle? What does 9,430,000 iu - 6.
