Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
977832 tn?1248281938 I am an eighteen year old female, and have been wondering for some time whether or not I am at slight risk for a heart condition. My fingernails are mounded/crested, especially my thumbnails, and I've been told this is often a symptom for heart disease (however, I also chewed my nails quite a bit as a child, so this might have added to it). I am also frequently cold, particularly in my extremities (hands and feet), and wonder if I have poor circulation.
Avatar n tn One and a half month ago, I overexercised (went running a lot more than I was used to) and when I finished, my fingernails were purple/blue. Since then, they have remained purple. A week after that I started developing many other symptoms which I'm quite sure have to do something with that. I went through several tests including EKG, echocardiogram, xray, spirometry, CT scan and blood work. All came back normal. My fingernails had never changed their colour before that incident.
Avatar n tn I really run much more than what I was used. When I finished, my fingernails were purple. Since then, they have stayed that way. A week after that, I started having many other symptoms (headaches, wooziness, etc). I was told by my doctors that it was raynauds, but now I have found out that raynaud causes attacks and then fingernails come back to normal. Mine are purple all the time, but occasionally my right thumb and left index turn very blue, although they return to purple when I press them.
1674823 tn?1307263620 I have been noted to have domed fingernails but not apparently 'clubbed' They have been like this as long as I can remember What might cause domed nails but not clubbed. ???
745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar n tn When you have overt symptoms you should be seen by a provider as soon as possible so that a culture can be done. Looking around on the tubes for answers while you have symptoms won't get you anywhere. Get seen ASAP. You're wasting your time here until that happens. We can't diagnose you. You also left off any information about why you are posting on a herpes forum. Why do you believe this is herpes? Were you having sex with a partner who has herpes? What is your own herpes status?

370143 tn?1206679669 None of your symptoms are attributable to asthma. If your asthma is as mild as you say, even the respiratory symptoms of shortness of breath and your "bluish-purple fingernails" are very unlikely to be caused by asthma. What you describe suggests a problem with your lungs and/or your heart, resulting in shortness of breath, and fatigue. The nail blueness and your headaches could be due to a lack of oxygen.
Avatar m tn I had cuticle breaks around my fingernails. and no other wound on my hand (that I am aware of). The guy obviously had sex before coming there (don t know how long before) ; what if he didn't wash his hands after sex and there was semen residue on his hand? Am I somehow at risk ? through indirect contact shortly after the handshake? (touching face, rubbing my eyes, smoking so touching lips with my fingers, phone etc.) Am I overreacting this? Is there any chance this could lead to anything?
Avatar n tn Purple fingernails all the time mean Raynaud's? Mine turned purple a month ago, just after overexercising and since then they remained purple, is this normal? Also, the coloration doesn't seem to change with temperature, does it still mean it is Raynaud's?
560684 tn?1306712545 but recently i have been seeing other symptoms; like moderate pitting of the finger nails (this has been going on for the past 3 months), weaking of fingernails along with peeling of nails and itching of the pubic area - past 2 weeks(without any signs of pubic lice - but when i scratch the 'root' of the hairs have these small while things - almost like some sort of internal moist dandruff...the skin is fine though).
Avatar f tn based on my research online, the only instances I can find a brown lines on the hands and fingernails occurred in people who have parasitic infections. After contact, I am now getting the brown lines in (not under) my fingernails without injury. Also peeling between the fingers. Avatar m tn If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand. I think I already know the answer but I would appreciate a response. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Half and hour after the exercise I noticed that my fingernails were blue and probably my lips were a little blue too. It lasted for some hours, but my fingernails never returned to their original colour. They are somewhat purple now. Only my thumb in my right hand gets very blue sometimes. This had never happened to me before that day. I never had any kind of respiratory problems.
Avatar m tn Those symptoms have nothing to do with a STD.

Avatar n tn t seem to remember if I had the small microcuts near my fingernails - **** I should have thought about that then. Anyways right about two weeks after the first event(possible exposure) I started to have neck pain and slightly feverish - I initially attributed that to my gym workout (crunches) but not before having a full blown panic attack and an entire day or two lost in nervousness and thinking of worst case scenarios.
Avatar n tn Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
Avatar m tn So for a while now I have had thin red lines near the tips of my fingernails under the nail accompanied by a little lack of color beneath the lines. This is most prominent in my thumbs. The color in my fingernails seems to be slightly darker than normal and maybe a little purple tinged. When I extend my fingers, the color leaves the front half of them. I have no idea what this is and my doctor didn't seem to know either.
Avatar n tn Four days ago a friend of mine -- who has a problem with my sexual acts -- told me I should stop because I can get HIV if semen gets underneath my fingernails. He told me that underneath the fingernail is mucous membranes that will get infected. I cant find any information about this but it cant be true can it?!?? Short hand -- IF I get semen underneath my fingernails am i at risk for HIV?????
