Doxycycline and headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline and headaches

I know of a nurse that was on antibiotics and suffered from it and now after one week I'm starting to hurt all over. Could there be a relation?
I've been taking doxycycline for my acne for 9 months and I've been very impressed with the results. However, lately I've been getting chronic headaches (for the past week). Should I stop taking it immediately? Also, is there a way I can slowly wein my way off?
I am a 20 year old male who was prescribed 200mg of doxycycline twice a day to treat confluent and reticulated papillomatosis, and after 3 days, I started developing headaches. I stopped taking it after a week, but my headache persisted. I feel a constant pressure in the back and top of my head and my neck that is not throbbing but more like something pressing continually.
I had itchy skin and severe red eye, terrible joint pain and MASSIVE headaches when I first started the Doxy. It got better as I continued taking it. What is the dosage that you are taking? Are you taking any probiotics like acidolphilis with it?
Fast forward, I was recently treated with doxy and I got MAJOR headaches. They made me feel nauseous and my ears would ring terribly. I hated it, BUT, keep in mind what Jackie says about Herxing. If you feel worse during treatment - it's a GOOD thing. You have to just learn to cope with the increased symptoms and continually remind yourself that it's the antibiotic killing off the bacteria.
Hello, I was interested in the discussion about benign intracranial hypertension and doxycycline. I was put on doxy 2 years ago for my skin. I'm a distance runner and also an asthmatic and have a very high pain threshold and discomfort tolerance, but over time I noticed I was struggling more and more with various things - going up hill was a struggle and began to give me that same sensation you can get when flying.
all day. but i keep reading posts (non pregnancy sites) about doxy causing headaches and sadness. i had one last test to get to the bottom of my 3 MCs. me and DH were kayotyped and we are both normal 46 chromosomes. so that is my silver lining at the moment.
As of right now I am experiencing headaches that go on and off throughout the day, and they are the most extreme when I wake up. My headaches are felt sometimes on the left side and sometimes on the right (not one specific side like a couple days before). I am not feeling the sort of heaviness as a couple of days ago, but now I am feeling a burning sensation throughout my legs and arms, feet. This burning sensation only occurs maybe once a day but in these different areas.

Then asked if the symptoms like headaches and tiredness and normal for me so I said no they aren't I never get headaches so it went down to come back in a couple of days if it's still the same and even if I was to have blood tests done and they came back positive they wouldn't do anything about it yet as it's too early apparently which is ridiculous. The earlier you treat it the better right? So I left knowing nothing new.
The dentist prescribed me doxycycline, when I started taking the medication I started having episodes of headaches, nausea, dizzy spells, and when I was up to day 10 of taking the doxy. my vision changed I started to see double. I was so nervous I went straight to the dentist he did nothing for me and then went to UMDNJ. I had an emergency LP and had an opening presure of 17. Then was told to see a neurologist, to get a new pair of glasses, and never take tetracyclines again.
I visited a doctor who suspected an allergy and prescribed me with Loratadine for relief of allergy symptons, Promethazine at night for Itch, Ibuprofen for pain relief and doxycycline for not sure?? He also prescribed a steroid creme to treat the rashes, and this has little effect. Having been on this medication for the last week, and new areas of scratching developing I am nearly at the end of my tether as to what this may be.
constant and loud tinnitus; fog brain; lightheadedness, dizziness, and swooning; headaches; and an overall pressure or tight feeling in my head. I feel depressed and only want to sit when having these symptoms. I look forward to going to bed at night to escape living with this. Recently, I've begun to get up with a stiff neck. Some days it will wear off and some days it stays with me. I started these symptoms when I was in my mid 40's. It started with dizziness.
Over time the symptoms have increased to include headaches, memory loss, loss of concentration, and most recently migraine like symptoms of dizziness and nausia. i stumbled and fell recently and could not regain my balance so i finally put all these symptoms together for a trip to the doctor. She did an eeg and a ct scan to check for epileptic seizures. the results were startling to me. I have not had any significant problems with sinus or allergy suffering.
Now 2 of the 3 doctors told me that the headaches were stress-induced and that it was possible that the pressure from the cyst could be causing the headaches. As for the third doctor he was about 50/50 on both possibilities. He thought that it wasn't likely that the cyst was causing the headaches, yet it was very possible. Now I'm getting sick. My throat is sore and scratchy, I'm coughing up a lot of phlegm (taking mucinex since last night).
Whislt I'm aware that what I've developed could be sinus-related, I'm also - as I'm sure you'll have guessed by now - concerned about aneurysms and tumours. That said, my headaches always come on and get worse as the days go on and are never an issue whilst asleep or upon awaking. Neither do they get worse when I bend over or sneeze etc. No signs of papilloedema either. No other 'red flag' issues present. My own Doc isn't that concerned but I can't help but worry!
My most significant symptom was severe headaches with painful neck and shoulder muscles. This past year my headaches were more severe, frequent and prolonged than ever. I treated them with aspirin, and Zomig as a last resort. Again, this summer I presented with Lyme disease symptoms. Doctor said from the test results she could not tell if it was a new infection, or the old flaring up. Went on doxycycline for thirty days.
I have severe sinus pressure and headaches for the past 2 months. Also I have numbness in my left cheek and half of my tongue is numb. I had a CT scan that showed infected sinuses. Took augmenten for 10 days, still feel terrible. Doctor started me on doxycycline for another 10 days. Anyone else have the numbness.
For the past 6 or 7 months I have been on 500 mg of Zithromax a day and 500mg of Flagyl once a day and 200 mg of Difulcan a week;I am also on Acetozolamide for headaches and eye pain; on and off I have seen improvement in many areas, but it is still an ongoing battle; It seems like I am having problems with seizure like symptoms; which my doctor feels it is from the use of some of the medication; almost a week ago; he removed me from all antibiotics on a "wait and see" approach and I h
a couple weeks after the encounter I came down with testicular aching and severe headaches that would come and go and vary in severeness as well as severe muscle twitching in my calves and hamstrings and muscle aches and pains as well, I had a fever also. Since the onset of these symtpoms the muscle twitching and headaches are an everyday thing and vary in severeness. I was tested for chlamydia, ghonnore, hsv, ebv,Hep,Hiv at 11 week mark and all neg.
the infectious disease specialist probably was not a good place to start. have you had a full work up by your regular doctor?
i was prescribed actually 3 rounds of doxycycline for it, and flonase, and also sudafed. i have polyps that have formed in each side of my nasal cavity. MISERABLE! Dr. also thinks some ofit is allergy-related. But in the last week or so, i have had the weird tingly sensations on my scalp/head. sort of like when you get cold chills but just in random spots on my head. doesn'thurt, just odd.
) I've taken doxycycline (100mg for 14 days), Levaquin (500mg for 11 days), and just took Zithromax (1g yesterday.) One thing that's really bothering me, is I've been getting this weird feeling in my urethra, like a feather tickling me. He said it could be the "prostate cleaning itself out." I asked my doc if it could be trichomonas, but he said men would rarely ever have any recognizable symptoms. Tested negative for herpes (HerpesSelect at 8 weeks, is this reliable?
I was treated twice with doxycycline (2 mos.) for the Lymes but the treatment did not work and the doctors suspected that I may not have Lupus but had Lymes the entire time. In July 2009, a year later, I was tested and the IGM Lymes test was again positive. The neurologist confirmed I have Lymes Disease but told me that it should have showed up on the IGG test and not the IGM test because of the length of time I have had Lymes. Now I have numerous questions. 1.
Ive been getting bad headaches after being on doxycycline for acne for a week. Should I wait and see if my body adjusts to it or should I stop taking it.

After blood work I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease took 30 days of doxycycline. It helped temp. but my fatigue is still really bad with body aches and daily headaches. I've seen an Infectious Disease doc who found nothing abnormal except I'd had CMV and Mono sometime in my past. Found out Lyme test was false positive. He recommended I see a neurologist for headaches and rheumatologist for possible autoimmune disorder. Ever since 2007 my immune system is weak.
The headache increases along with a feeling of fatigue and I have contant post nasal drip and some infrequent frontal sinus pain (and a history of sinusitis). Perhaps important...?
they are mainly green in color, but sometime a little yellow and bloody. they smell and taste so bad!!! i also suffer from chronic headaches since the surgery. everyone is right on telling you that you need to find a doc that will help you with the pain if you choose to do the surgery. after my surgery, i was sooooo sick and in soooooo much pain. i had the worst headaches for three days. all i can remember is passing out alot from the pain, and that i was praying to die. now thats just sad.
and all he does is prescribe me doxycycline and send me on my way and it does nothing for my symptoms. The ongoing symptoms make it hard to let it go and that is why I am on this site now. I just need some insight from an expert on this topic 1. Are my symptoms consistent with periperal neuropathy? 2. Is it possible to not have seroconverted through 6 months? 3. Can I be 100% that I am in fact HIV neg? 4. Are rapid tests just as reliable as ELISA blood drawn?
