1253197 tn?1331212710 *Insufficient reliability *Ordinal scale *Bimodal distribution (peaks at 2-3 and 6) *Heavy weight on ambulation *Susceptible to non-MS noise *Poor assessment of cognition *Poor assessment of upper extremity *Limited reproducibility I kind of like this comment from George Ebers in his critique of MS trials and what they measure (from http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/340/jun03_1/c2693.
1339332 tn?1329857966 Well, I knew that SOME of the 6.6 pound "loss" on the scale was artificial since I hadn't been able to eat substantial amounts for a few days. But I really did think SOME of it was "REAL" and would be lasting. I'm disappointed with the regain after only a couple of days of very light, "regular" eating: light meals, no snacks in between. Drinking a lot of water, trying to stay hydrated so that I'm not getting excited over water loss.
Avatar m tn I think the scale on the weight tracker should be changed, and possibly let the user decide. For instance, I'm about 10 lbs above where the blue tracker line wants me to be at, but because of the graph layout I can obviously see todays weight, but the blue line is not shown. Minimally the graph axis should be set so you can always see your weight, and the blue line, for TODAY.
Avatar f tn This event happened prior to development/use of the Glasgow Coma Scale and I am trying to determine an estimated GCS score and would appreciate other opinions. ____________________________________________________________________ In 1973 pt (age 18) was huffing aerosol deodorant (halogenated hydrocarbons) through a filter made of toilet paper. After inhalation of 2 cans, pt became disoriented followed by agitation and collapse.
Avatar f tn help i want to be able to track my weight but i dont know how to put it on the scale thanks
455058 tn?1310571251 My scale at home is wrong. I way more than I thought I did. At least I lost 6 lbs last month.
1657318 tn?1312176383 You could be gaining lean muscle weight from your exercising. Muscle does weight more than fat so the scale may not reflect what is happening to your body. Suggest you continue what you have been doing and measure your body to determine weight loss/toning, not a scale. Thank you for your question.
140437 tn?1215113342 I absolutly disagree. My parents went and had there BMI done and my father's body fat % is probably ~15% and my mother ~30-40 % and they told my father he needed to loose weight. So tell me about that. And for your info i was giving and example. It is absolutly not any kind of an indicater of body fat %. Getting your body fat% read is an accurate indication of your % of body fat. Do more research http://www.ironbodies.com/modules/bmi-indicator/ http://www.healthcentral.
Avatar n tn You are working out now after a long haul of nothing. So you are gaining muscle weight. Muscle weighs more then fat. So where the scale may say you lost only 3 pounds, you lost more fat and gained more muscle. Scales are horrible mean creature and should all be burned. lol You shouldnt be using the scale as your advice line to how well you are doing...the BEST course is the measuring tape. Find out how many inches you are losing. Did you lose 1 inch? 2 inches? and so on. You are doing well.
Avatar n tn The March of Dimes website has a good chart on weight gain during pregnancy. You might want to google it and compare what you have gained to the averages they provide. But remember, a lot of this is just averages, women come in above and below that number.
6918915 tn?1395936471 I don't think it is allot Ady all I have lost 9 lbs and I am 16 weeks they aren't worried maybe they just want to make sure you eat healthy and keep it in check I know alot of doctors that belive thIs factor in fact we have one in the hospital i work at they just want healthy I know alot of ppl that easy unhealthy and have complications not everyone us the same but I would take it to keep myself in check not negative necessarily I won't buy maternity pants cause o want to make sure I don't gain
Avatar m tn what dose for what weight category. I'm hoping my weight falls within one of those categories and not too high. My doctor wants me start treatment now, but I want to get my weight in line prior to treating so I give myself the best shot.
4654179 tn?1382646814 We had issues getting to birth weight after we went home. I called WIC and asked to use their scale before going in. They said that if I needed help they will tell me how to help gain weight without adding formula. I would call them and ask. I just hope they aren't part of this government shut down thing.
10389360 tn?1410827568 You can't use a BMI chart while you are pregnant because you naturally are going to gain weight while pregnant, so it is not your "true" weight. If you want to get a more accurate BMI result, use your pre-pregnancy weight, although BMI is a terrible way to measure normalcy - obesity since everyone is built different.
Avatar f tn It calculates your body mass index based on your starting weight and height and plots your current weight on a chart which shows what the healthy range is for your body. I find it useful because I don't have to do the math myself. I check it about once every 1 or 2 weeks. It's right on target with what my doctor told me to gain so I trust it. Just keep in mind that your weight gain is not necessarily linear either.
Avatar f tn I know there are several people here who can't seem to put weight on. I stay sick to my stomach a lot, also. I would think that would make me lose weight. I don't know. I am starting to get very concerned about it. That is probably one of the last things for me to be "worried" about, but I have a fear of being overweight like my mother and sister. I want to be as healthy as I can at the time. Thanks y'all for your support.
Avatar n tn I've been working out for about a month now 5-6 days/week, 1.5-2 hours/day. I weight train for about 45 mins then cardio 60-80mins switching it up between the elliptical & the treadmill. I also keep a daily calorie journal and have been eating around 900 calories/day but thats total not net calories. Net calories total around 400-600/day depending how hard I work out that day. I stick to a strict diet of lean meat, whole wheats, vegetables and fat free dairy products.
Avatar f tn I will see what I weigh Friday, but I check every week and the scale showed I lost. Water weight is a big part of it too.. do what you want, you will anyway.. its not our worry to worry over.
1964726 tn?1368051414 Even on vacations I weigh myself as often as possible. When I got on the scale up here at our cabin I knew there'd be a difference since I weighed myself Friday morning. How do I know that? It's not that I over ate. When I weigh myself at home it's at 4:30 a.m. prior to eating or drinking anything and I'm just getting into the shower. When I weigh myself on weekends or vacation when I'm getting into my shower it's after I've had a couple cups of coffee, about 32 ounces of water and breakfast.
Avatar n tn I take topamax to control seizures and I must say that I am surprised doctors prescribe it for weight loss alone, and that you are willing to put up with the side effects of it just for weight loss when there are other weight loss drugs out there. The "goofiness and loss of words" bothers me tremendously. I have been taking it since April and that hasn't abated any. Unfortunately I did not experience any weight loss or loss of appetite from it like everyone says. I take 200 mg a day.
Avatar n tn I would say that it is a 50/50 chance whether you would lose weight in the long run as the product wasn't designed as a weight loss product. (but I'm not a doctor so your dr. might be able to tell you what to expect).
Avatar n tn I have digenerative disc disease and my neirologist just prescribed topamax, he said it would help with the pain and tingling but could result in weight loss. I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...
1994124 tn?1422577699 Ya know I can't stess enough that everyone is different. Your Dr is using a weight chart which is a world average. But you are unique and it would be impossible to cater to each person. If you are healthy and baby is measuring fine why are you worried? I am 29 weeks today and have gained 6lbs but baby is healthy. Don't stress unless Dr says you should have concerns.
579258 tn?1250652943 Trying to lose weight and change our eating and exercise behaviors can seem like a daunting task at times. However, you CAN succeed by adopting a “can do” attitude, learning how to forgive yourself rather than punishing yourself and never, ever giving up! Since this is a learning process and we are not perfect, bumps in the road are to be expected. From time to time, when we face a derailment and regain some of the weight we fought so hard to lose, we can get disheartened.
Avatar n tn A quick look at a height/weight chart, says you can safely weigh anywhere between 123 and 163, depending on your bone structure. See below: Height Small Frame Medium Frame Large Frame 5'7" 123-136 133-147 143-163 Maybe what you really need is muscle toning rather than weight loss.
746512 tn?1388811180 Hello! At a height of 5'2" and a weight of 85 pounds you have a BMI of 15.5. You are underweight and your weight is not acceptable as you should gain atleast to 100 pounds to achieve a normal BMI. I would suggest you to eat lots of protein in your diet along with salads and carbohydrate you are presently consuming. Eggs, milk, meat should be part of your breakfast and lunch regularly. You can also have beans, legumes, cheese and sprouts which contain proteins.
1265067 tn?1480401758 ) However, looking back on my weight chart the past month, I though it was great that I was losing weight, but then I was starting to be dubious about my digital scales. It felt like I was losing too much weight at times when I did my weekly weigh-ins? Mind was put at rest today when I checked my scales with a couple of 2 litre milk bottles full of water! They are reading accurately thankfully.
489000 tn?1364305827 Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else has run into this problem. The only thing now is that my chart is flagged for weight gain. Oh well....can't win them all.
Avatar n tn Sometimes salt can be the culprit in fast weight gain. And depending on your weight, the norm is said to be 25-35 lbs. I have only known a few girls who have gained the low end with their pg. Most women I know have gained 30+ lbs. It may be a good idea to lay off the sweets or substitute them with healthier alternatives (raisins instead of candy, etc). A good book to check out is What to Eat When You Are Expecting. It offers many healthy (and tasty) recipes that fit well with pregnancy.
