Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx side effects risk

vioxx

Avatar f tn Occupant, Just because any drug is available over-the-counter, doesn't mean they do not have side effects. And just because side effects are listed doesn't mean you are getting all the information on a drug. Vytorin is derived synthetically from a separate co-marketing agreement with merck and schering, etc. Anything sythetically made (including any over-the-counter medications) involve a risk.
Avatar m tn This group of NSAIDs has the advantage of having fewer gastrointestinal side effects – less abdominal discomfort and less risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, than conventional NSAIDs. There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems.

Avatar m tn Everything from risk of infections, pneumonia, and heart disease as well as increased risk of stomach cancer. I am not allowed to refer you to my blog but I know that Dr.Mercola did a great blog with references on his website so you can read more THERE. What to take instead? What I give everyone including my dad! Good pharma grade digestive enzymes and betaine. Works much better and is totally safe.
Avatar f tn Post surgical ovarian failure, whilst uncommon, is a real risk with these surgeries and I was never advised of this risk before my op so I am very upset. I now have to take birth control, and all because of a benign cyst. I get migraines from the pill and I shouldn't be taking it either. I wish I had just left the cyst there. But given your history, I guess they do have to extra careful. Good luck, and I hope things get better for you.
Avatar n tn You need to know what is being injected into the eye for the macular edema. Likely its macugen which is a steroid. The biggest risk is worsening of glaucoma. Other risks include infection, bleeding, retinal detachment, and increase of floaters. You could ask about laser grid treatment, oral carbonic anhydrase inhibityors (diamox) treatment of macular edema. You could ask about adding a steroid such as FML or Vioxx that is less likely to raise IOP than regular steroids.

I hope it does help someone like me. http://www.nature.com/eye/journal/v16/n1/full/6700038a.html that's site. And as for the dark greasy stool here it is the site http://hab.hrsa.gov/deliverhivaidscare/clinicalguide11/cg-501_diarrhea.htmlI hope it does help in any case since I had tried to find something but couldn't. I hope you all the best who is reading this because you need it.
Avatar m tn A new generation of NSAIDs, known as the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, has recently been approved by the FDA. This group of NSAIDs has the advantage of having fewer gastrointestinal side effects – less abdominal discomfort and less risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, than conventional NSAIDs. There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra.
Avatar f tn do all of these crappy (literally) side effects EVER fade??? ive only been on the combined treatment for a month now....it just seems to b getting worse...the vomitting, crapping, fatigue, body aches, head aches, raw throat and mouth....i just hate to ask my docs for all kinds of meds....just wondering if it gets better closer to the one year marker????
Avatar f tn seek immediate medical attention if you develop any serious symptoms or side effects. and that these side effects may only occur infrequently, BUT SOME MAY BE FATAL. would this statement not really get you thinking.I never had any serious deseases but thought that the hep c would kill me. how irronic. those serious side effects are all that occur in our bodies, for some of us. I never experienced any thing like this before on the treatment.
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?

Avatar m tn I was even prescribed VIOXX in the States for these symptoms.
Avatar f tn Kes I had all of the same side effects you are speaking of when I used tram and yes at 800mg a day you are putting yourself at great risk of seizing .Have you tried tapering off?
Avatar n tn Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. This drug may reduce blood flow to your hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Avoid tobacco use and dress warmly.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about the potential serious side effects of this medication and the risk/reward for me. I am doing exercise rehab and intend to use herbal remedies on a daily basis for the inflammation if I do not use the medication.
120574 tn?1240767840 Can anyone tell me what type of side effects you had with Avastin. Did you take it alone, or with a chemo drug?
Avatar f tn I forgot to add that I have never had a breakout/rash. There is one cut that always appears and goes away with medication. I get it every month, since being diagnosed 4 months ago :( Not too bad, but I have a partner and want to do everything in my power to stop risk of spreading.
Avatar f tn I just want a little clarification. I've had the Nexplanon implant for about...3 months now. I've done my research and read all of the side effects. I haven't had a menstrual cycle since the implant, I have also taken a pregnancy test and came out negative. I know this is mentioned on a lot of side effect lists but I just want to make sure there's nothing I should rush to a doctor to get checked out.
Avatar m tn I was on 375mg put due to the risk of another seizure have dropped down to 300mg. Has anyone else experienced as many side effects and do you think its worth all the side effects to be be ?( stable for now neway) .The doctors seem to think its worth it but then they dont have a load of side effects to deal with.
Avatar f tn This treatment has a high risk of psychiatric side effects, you need to find a doctor who is up to date on the treatment and side effects. Search the archives on this forum, its got lots of good discussions and information. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Trimix is a combination of alprostadil, phentolamine and papaverine. Treatment with Trimix comes with some long term side effects. Mild pain, scarring and fibrosis are the common side effects. I would suggest that you visit a urologist to assess the dose requirements in your case. Best.
