Your problem isn't diabetes its alcohol. According to the manufacturer or Effexor® (venlafaxine hydrochloride), drinking alcohol while using Effexor is not recommended since they both work on the same part of the brain. Alcohol negates Effexor.

I had been taking Venlafaxine ER 150mg capsules (2 each am) for about 10 years. Recently, my dr. switched me to Venlafaxine 75 mg tablets (3 per day). Ever since, I have had hives and can't get rid of them. Recently went to dermatologist and after testing, found out I am allergic to cows milk and egg whites. I have eliminated both from my diet, but still have hives, with new breakout areas every day. I am beginning to suspect the cause of my hives is the Venlafaxine 75mg tablets.

Every time I try a medication that has a reuptake effect on norepeneprhine I get this mild burning sensation on the left side of my chest. So far I have had this happen with Atomoxetine, Venlafaxine, Bupropion and now Nortrypytiline. It isn't anxiety, a panic attack or heartburn, just a dull, moderately uncomfortable, burning sensation. I'm fine with all the SSRI's and medications like Rexulti. It's just the ones that affect NE.

She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. This is the first time I have posted a comment/question on here but I often come here to read posts. I was recently put on 150mg of Venlafaxine once daily in combination with 1mg Lorazepam as needed. I am responding quickly to the Venlafaxine ER and have only had a few bumps throughout the day that required half of the 1mg Lorazepam. My problem is sleeping? I'm so worried about the addictive qualities of Lorazepam that I am hesitant to take it to help me sleep.

Trust me, all the name brand antidepressant meds are just as expensive. The active ingredient in Effexor is Venlafaxine, which is avalible in a Generic, but it is not in the XR form. The XR is short for "extended release." Only the Effexor has this time release form of Venlafaxine delivery. I have found this time release form to be much more effective than the generic Venlafaxine which has no such delivery system.
