Desvenlafaxine and venlafaxine

Common Questions and Answers about Desvenlafaxine and venlafaxine

Avatar n tn Important information about Pristiq= Do not take Pristiq if you are allergic to desvenlafaxine or venlafaxine (Effexor), or if you are also using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate). You must wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAOI before you can take Pristiq. After you stop taking Pristiq, you must wait at least 7 days before you start taking an MAOI.....
Avatar f tn Desvenlafaxine ( Pristiq ) is a novel form of the isolated major active metabolite of venlafaxine, and is categorized as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It works by blocking the transporter "reuptake" proteins for key neurotransmitters affecting mood, thereby leaving more active neurotransmitters in the synapse. The neurotransmitters affected are serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
Avatar n tn I've been on Effexor XR for over 10 yrs and currently taking 150mg/day. My doc wants to put me on Pristiq as it has less side effects than Effexor (which I hate esp the sweats) and has told me to just stop the Effexor and start taking 100mg of Pristiq the next day. Is this the most effective way to transition to Pristiq? I am terrified of Effexor withdrawals, they are excruciating, but the doc said that I shouldn't get any because the meds are basically the same thing.
Avatar m tn 1 Im looking into a SNRI type of drug which is a primary option for generalized anxiety disorder •Cymbalta (duloxetine) •Effexor (venlafaxine) •Fetzima (levomilnacipran) •Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) family doc put me on 25mcg then 3 days later the endo put me on 75mcg everyone says that was a huge jump
Avatar f tn Pristiq is nothing but an active metabolite of Effexor (venlafaxine being Effexor and desvenlafaxine being Pristiq). Honestly, it should be about as effective as Effexor is. The only reason it was created is because Effexor's patent (if it hasn't already) and soon will be a generic, cheap drug. The pharmaceutical companies always come up with a new drug to push over the old ones whenever this happens because they don't make even a quarter of the money off of the generic drugs.
Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are not the dance thing. Sane family. Venlafaxine vs desvenlafaxine. Pristiq had added benefit of norepinehprine uptake inhibitor or something. Weird that everyone is getting prescribed 50mg when the added benefits dont kick in until 100-150mg. Before swapping drug altogether (depending on non mental side effects) try upping dose first maybe.
20867265 tn?1552029940 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar n tn * Venlafaxine (Effexor) - The first and most commonly used SNRI. The reuptake effects of venlafaxine are dose dependent. * Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) * Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve)Duloxetine is contraindicated in patients with heavy alcohol use or chronic liver disease. Give Lexapro some time to work and maybe one day it will be like a miracle day and it will start do wonders. Otherwise talk to your doctor about trying the drugs i suggested you above.
324184 tn?1308079803 pdf Discontinuation symptoms have been reported when switching patients from other antidepressants, Including Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) to PRISTIQ (Desvenlafaxine) . Tapering of the initial drug may be necessary to decease symptoms. Cymbalta has a coating that resists dissolving until reaching the G.I. tract where the pH exceeds 5.5 (duodenum).
Avatar f tn It is a metabolite of venlafaxine (Effexor). It is said to have less side effects than Effexor and better absorbed according to my doctor, but clinical trials and any reserach I have done do not state that. It seems that they are prety much the same. The drug company, Wyeth, developed Pristiq because it's patent on Effexor XR will be expiring soon, meaning that a cheaper generic will be available, so they are pushing Pristiq now as the "new and better" alternative.
Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same. Funny thing is you know why Weith pharm released Pristiq? (a drug much like Effexor) Because the 7 year patent on Effexor was close to an end and Weith didn't want to lose market share. In comes Pristiq (Name brand only for another 7 years) It's all about the money.
242516 tn?1368227505 A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study:
Avatar m tn I agree because when was on Effexor XR my theraputic dosage was 300MGs a day. Pristiq is (Desvenlafaxine) and Effexor is (Venlafaxine) that just goes to show you how much alike the two drugs are. In fact at the molecular level the two drugs are 99% exactly the same active compound. You might ask why the makers of Effexor would release a drug so much like Effexor.
