324184 tn?1308079803 My partner has just stopped taking Cymbalta (60 mg after 3 + years) and started taking Pristiq (50 mg). She has been on it for 6 days and she has had diarrhea and vomiting for 3 out of those 6 days. Has anyone experienced these types of side effects on Pristiq? I know everyone is different and we're hoping that her body will adjust to it and start working. I'm also wondering if she is sick due to abruptly stopping the Cymbalta (her dr.
Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are not the dance thing. Sane family. Venlafaxine vs desvenlafaxine. Pristiq had added benefit of norepinehprine uptake inhibitor or something. Weird that everyone is getting prescribed 50mg when the added benefits dont kick in until 100-150mg. Before swapping drug altogether (depending on non mental side effects) try upping dose first maybe.
929549 tn?1266444620 The symptoms you describe are not only withdrawal symptoms, they are also side effects of venlafaxine. There is a newer medication that is very similar to venlafaxine called Pristiq that you may tolerate better. Please make an appointment with your physician to discuss your treatment options.
Avatar f tn I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
309783 tn?1271961829 Says it Effexor, but purified and doseage doesn't need to be adjusted back and forth. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad with Pristiq. Back to your originalquestion--Trust your "guts" . If uncomfortable tell him if he doesn't agree, get another opinion if thats possible. Blessings. By all means keep talking. My MD told me if I even feel the least bit depressed, get up do something-talk to someone. Thanks for this site.
Avatar n tn My doc wants to put me on Pristiq as it has less side effects than Effexor (which I hate esp the sweats) and has told me to just stop the Effexor and start taking 100mg of Pristiq the next day. Is this the most effective way to transition to Pristiq? I am terrified of Effexor withdrawals, they are excruciating, but the doc said that I shouldn't get any because the meds are basically the same thing. Can you verify what he's saying?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone I went to my doctor and she took me off the zoloft and put me on pristiq to help with my panic and anxiety. Has it helped anyone? Also she told me to not taper off the zoloft and it's safe to just start the pristiq.
Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq and/or Effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than Effexor. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Is there a valid study available that has been conducted that confirms Pristiq causes a false positive for PCP? If so, how can I get a copy of this information?
Avatar m tn I was taking savella 50 mgs twice daily and blood pressure shot up to 180/100 so got off and went on Pristiq 50 mgs and blood pressure shot up to 179/93.Dr put me on blood pressure medicine.I am not convinced that I have high blood preesure.Has anyone had this probelm?
Avatar n tn When Norephinepherine depletion in the brain is a key contributor to your severe depression, Effexor and Pristiq can work wonders to getting you productive and back in remission. There is a reason Effexor XR makes 3.5 Billion a year in sales per year.... Because it flat out WORKS many times for people that fail on SSRI's. Sorry, but I must defend Effexor XR. Yes it can be a heavy hitter, but when the depression gets real bad it can often be just the ticket to remission.
Avatar n tn Croman123, I looked up your medication and very briefly here's what it said: ******************* ...."Pristiq is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine), which helps to improve certain mood problems.... ..."Pristiq is used to treat major depressive disorder. ...
Avatar f tn Did he have these night time problems before the addition of Prozac? I am guessing he did not for the reason given below. Get him off the Prozac (but do so slowly). The Prozac blocks the liver pathways for the stim meds and will make things worse. This is a quote from Dr. Charles Parker. I will private message you the site as I can't post it here.
Avatar n tn Research shows that, not suprisingly, those of us with acne and rosacea are more prone to depression and anxiety. I was prescribed Venlafaxine (Effexor) to help me deal with the anxiety and social phobia I felt due to my acne. It has really helped me, and not increased my acne. Acne is not mentioned as a potential side effect of Effexor in the leaflet enclosed with the pills. DO NOT stop taking Effexor suddenly because serious withdrawal symptoms may occur.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
Avatar m tn 1 Im looking into a SNRI type of drug which is a primary option for generalized anxiety disorder •Cymbalta (duloxetine) •Effexor (venlafaxine) •Fetzima (levomilnacipran) •Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) family doc put me on 25mcg then 3 days later the endo put me on 75mcg everyone says that was a huge jump
Avatar f tn Effexor and Pristiq are 99% the same drug in terms of active chemical. Pristiq being Desvenlafaxine and Effexor being Venlafaxine. In fact if you look at the molecular chart for the two drugs they even bind the same. Funny thing is you know why Weith pharm released Pristiq? (a drug much like Effexor) Because the 7 year patent on Effexor was close to an end and Weith didn't want to lose market share. In comes Pristiq (Name brand only for another 7 years) It's all about the money.
Avatar n tn 50mg one day, 25mg the next, 50mg the next, and so on. Then go to 25mg every day and then 25mg every OTHER day? Or should I just take a week off of work and work through the withdrawal cold turkey like a drug addict would coming off an addiction? Help...
603543 tn?1255298050 This doctor should have mentioned Venlafaxine if you couldn't afford Effexor XR and still wanted to take an Effexor like drug. As for the Celexa.... You honestly don't know yet. It may work for you as good as the Effexor did. IMO, I say if it isn't broke than don't switch it. Which is why if Effexor is working for you that it is best to stay with it or a drug like Venlafaxine which is Effexors active ingredient. You get what I'm saying?
20867265 tn?1552029940 Since Effexor/Venlafaxine has such a bad reputation for withdrawal symptoms, he didn't see the need to wean me off of it because he figured that the mood stabilizers would balance out any rapid cycling caused by the antidepressants (antidepressants, especially SNRIs like Effexor/Venlafaxine or Pristiq/Desvenlafaxine have a tendency to cause rapid cycling in Bipolar Disorder patients). However, this turned out not to be the case.
Avatar f tn Not to mention the weird rushes of dizziness and shooting sensations through my hands and arms. I was hoping I could start a generic drug that may lessen the effexor withdrawal symptoms. Although, I cant afford even a doctors visit at this point. I will get insurance through work come Nov. 1.
Avatar n tn * Venlafaxine (Effexor) - The first and most commonly used SNRI. The reuptake effects of venlafaxine are dose dependent. * Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) * Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve)Duloxetine is contraindicated in patients with heavy alcohol use or chronic liver disease. Give Lexapro some time to work and maybe one day it will be like a miracle day and it will start do wonders. Otherwise talk to your doctor about trying the drugs i suggested you above.
962875 tn?1314213636 Watch Out For Interactions with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and tamoxifen (NOLVADEX ) is used commonly in the treatment and sometimes in the prevention of this disease. In 2007, 1.7 million prescriptions were filled for tamoxifen. However, recent evidence suggests that certain other drugs can reduce the anti-cancer effects of tamoxifen, potentially increasing cancer recurrence and reducing survival.
Avatar f tn My doctor now wants me to try Venlafaxine (Pristiq) and after reading some of the comments, I am scared to try this as my burning is bad enough. I need relief now and don't know what to do. Anyone found any relief yet??
Avatar m tn I am pretty sure this is psychological. V is good for about 12 hours and then its gone - you revert back to your unmedicated self. Also this happens in your dream state, and is probably your mind dealing with things that you have not been able to deal with. I think that this is something that a good psychologist could help you with with. I also think that, if it is possible, that you need to get out. Go volunteer somewhere. The need is all over the place.
Avatar m tn Been taking wellbutrin and effexor. I quit effexor cold turkey 2 days ago. I've missed 2 doses several times before over 6 yr period. Never really had major side effects - probably because there's a lot of wellbutrin still in my system. Just been reading a lot of nightmares of people who have suffered from withdraw.I have some of the same withdraw symptoms, but less severe. Does welbutrin really help with effexor withdraw once you've been on welbutrin a long time?
Avatar n tn I am on day two of quitting effexor xr 150 mg cold turkey and i feel like im going insane, i am feeling very dizzy, tired all the time, seeing shadowy things for a second and then they dissappear, irrattic behaviour and insecurity and feeling depressed in terms of anxiety and thinking what am i going to do if...... this happened or that. scared of being alone . and headaches all the time. i dont want to go back on effexor as my friends told me all this bad stuff about it and what it does to you.
Avatar f tn All I have thought about for the last four weeks is this fear and that its come true. I went to my GP and was prescribed pristiq for the depression and frisium for the anxiety. It has definitely helped with my overall mood and even taken a bit of the edge off for the anxiety, so they are doing there job. The thing is I'm still obsessing about it and just cant shake the thought. I can have this anxiety overwhelm me at least once every hour. Its really making me exhausted from worry.
242516 tn?1368227505 A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.
