m wondering whether that bipolar disorder diagnosis is correct. Might be, might not be -- bipolar is a fad diagnosis right now, way over-diagnosed, because there are "new" types of it that aren't true bipolar but are just describing the symptoms some get from suffering depression. These categories are usually devised by pharmaceutical companies to sell more drugs.

I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!

I have bipolar 2 disorder. I have done fine on Lamictal at 200mg for years. after a while we had to add Klonpin for anxiety and up it. I am now on 3 mg. I went through a long depression and decided to take Cymbalta, After about 2 months I had no sexual fuction (female), headaches, constipation, excessive sweating. I weaned off. Ive been taking Venlafaxine 225mg for 3 and a half months it isnt eleviating low mood at all. Instead it is making me angry and slightly erraqtic finding it hard to settle or sleep. I told my doctor all he said was keep taking it. The anger inside me bursts out without thinking like never before and im straining relationships. This is the first time I have posted a comment/question on here but I often come here to read posts. I was recently put on 150mg of Venlafaxine once daily in combination with 1mg Lorazepam as needed. I am responding quickly to the Venlafaxine ER and have only had a few bumps throughout the day that required half of the 1mg Lorazepam. My problem is sleeping? I'm so worried about the addictive qualities of Lorazepam that I am hesitant to take it to help me sleep.

Trust me, all the name brand antidepressant meds are just as expensive. The active ingredient in Effexor is Venlafaxine, which is avalible in a Generic, but it is not in the XR form. The XR is short for "extended release." Only the Effexor has this time release form of Venlafaxine delivery. I have found this time release form to be much more effective than the generic Venlafaxine which has no such delivery system.
