Avatar n tn I would have this feeling as if the food is stuck in my throat and it would start to make me cough and gag as if i were choking. I don't know what could be wrong. On my right side of my neck it feels like there is a little lump but i been having that for a few years. Do you think that small lump on my right side of the neck could be causing me to have difficultly swallowing. I have also notice that there would be like a small red bump in the back of my throat but it would come and go.

Avatar n tn Magnesium deficiency symptoms include throat problems (such as problems swallowing, tightness in throat, lump in throat or gagging), dizziness, tinnitus. Increase magnesium in the diet or supplement. Do not take magnesium supplements if you have kidney or heart problems.
Avatar n tn I was left with a lump in my throat and problems swallowing. The antibiotics cleared up the infection but the problem swallowing would still be there. It was bad most days with the occasional good day. No problem swallowing when drinking water... Could eat OK but food did get stuck.. Based on the information in this Website. I told my Doctor I thought I had acid coming up from my stomach.
Avatar f tn Lump in throat. Sometimes I as well get the feeling of a necklace around my throat, on a few occassions it turned out to be (even though I have other GI problems) stress or what is soetimes called hysterical throat.
Avatar n tn One day my friends and I went out to eat. I was drinking cranberry drink and it felt like my throat was getting smaller. I told my friends, and they thought I was playing. Now my throat feels like there's a lump or something stuck in the back left side of my throat. I have gargled with listerine and it went away for a while and then came back. I've gargaled with warm salt and water. same thing. What could this be? Is it caused by stress? Is it an disease?
Avatar n tn I feel a tightness in my neck and throat, almost as though my throat is swollen. There is a lump there all the time. So far all my test results have been normal and they can`t find my problem. The only medication I`m on now is Ziac for blood pressure. Please could you give me any information that could help me find an answer I would really appreciate any help. Thank You, Bob P.S.
Avatar n tn For the past week, I have been experiencing a "lump in the throat" feeling that will not go away. At first, it was only when I swallowed, but now it is a constant thing. It is not painful, and it feels like a tightening feeling with something I can't seem to swallow. Two months ago, because my doctor was concerned with my high heart rate, I was diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis, and my levels were then in the "hyper" range.
Avatar n tn In January I choked on some food and from that moment on I have had continued problems with daily heartburn (pain in chest and between shoulder blades at times), burning in the back of my throat, lump in throat, and generally feeling like I had something small (the size of a piece of rice) stuck in my throat. An xray was taken of my throat (normal) and a barium swallow was done. The diagnosis was esophagitis and I was told to take OTC Prilosec daily.
Avatar n tn I now am experiencing a feeling of a lump in my throat when I swallow and the front of my neck seems swollen or enlarged. It is very difficult to swallow if my head is even slightly titled up. What could be causing this?
Avatar n tn Hello, The medical term for that feeling (which some people call "a hair struck or a lump in the throat") is globus sensation. At times, it is associated with difficulties swallowing. They are probably related to psychological problems. The most common cause is gastro esophageal reflux disease - GERD. Other causes may be irritation due to post nasal drip, allergy and infections(like sinusitis or sore throat). Diagnosis is confirmed by fibroptic laryngoscopy.
Avatar f tn I have has a lump sensation in my throat for 2 months now. This came with a sudden onset. Doctor says it could be anxiety related seeng that I have severe anxiety or some problems that come along wit reflux. I have been prescribed adivan for my anxiety but as well im too scared to take it. The only relief i have is wen i first wake up. The minute i eat or ecome stressed the feeling returns. To describe this, it is a feeling like your throat is real tight or may have been karate chopped.
Avatar n tn If you are having problems with acid reflux, the sensation could be globus. It's a 'feeling' of something in the throat - like a lump. If this is the reason, you need to work with your doc to try to bring the reflux under control.

Avatar n tn I`m a 45 year old man, have always been in good health until this last year. I`m getting heartburn, a lump in my throat, and chest and neck pains almost every day. I`ve been to several doctors and specialists, have had stress test, endoscopy, x-rays on my esophagus. Have taken prilosec, prevesid, propulsid with relief for a while but then they stop working. I feel a tightness in my neck and throat, almost as though my throat is swollen. There is a lump there all the time.
Avatar f tn For about a week now I have had a lump in the throat sensation. I definitely suffer from anxiety. I have never been diagnosed but I know I have it. This 'lump sensation' has gone from moving around and feeling big to feeling reasonably small and only on one side. I recently had a cold with coughing, running nose, coughing up phelgm. I've noticed the past couple days I'll have a slight crackle in my right ear, and it kind of effects the lump. My worry (surprise!
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor last week complaining of extreme fatigue and weight gain. The doctor ran a TSH and it was 4.08. Even though that came up normal she has ordered an antibody and t4 but only after I requested. I also found out that my TSH was 3.8 last year and she didn't do anything about it even though I was complaining then. I am currently waiting for the results on those tests but I have a feeling I am going to have to refer myself out to an endo.
Avatar m tn If the lump in the throat is caused by acid (very possible given what you describe), consider taking a course of antacids (I recommend Gaviscon for starters, Pepcid Complete if that doesn't work, and finally Prilosec OTC if that doesn't work after a few days each) to see whether this helps take the feeling away. If it does then you've essentially traced it down to it being acid. If it doesn't after 2 weeks, then you may wish to go see a doc just to be safe.
