Avatar n tn Is it possible for a hiatial hernia to cause problems with my throat and voice. My symptoms are loss of voice when I talk for a little while---I can no longer sing---I can't get any range at all----my voice has grown so low that when I answer the phone people think its my husband answering. If you have any ideas I'd certainly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Avatar m tn A few days ago, while trying to belt out some higher notes, I hurt my voice. My voice is hoarse, and in the hollow of my throat, right between my collar bones, there is a burning sensation. My voice cracks occasionally, and I noticed a loss of one octave spanning across the past five months, and it gets tired really easily. I have put myself on vocal rest, and have been keeping the talking to a minimum. I also noticed that when I sing, my larynx goes up really high. What could this be?
Avatar f tn I think it has something to do with the jaw, the muscles in the throat and the nerves in the throat which are being vibrated by the vocal chords. I saw an ENT last fall. He said my vocal chords were just fine. He saw something else a little red but could not see any reason why I couldn't talk. I was a little hoarse at that time but had a lot of pain in my throat. I would like to be able to sing as I go through school (getting my Masters in Music Education).
Avatar f tn I have problems with my voice and have for about 30 yrs.I got hit in the throat causing a bone that controls one side of my voice box. I don't know about that type of surgery, but if you were put to sleep they insert a tube down your airway and inflat a balloon to hold it in place. If it is not properly deflated before removing, it can also break those bones. That would give you air instead of sound.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I need some help here. I have been having problems with my voice for a while now, and it has gotten worse to the point that I have almost completely lost my voice. If I do try to talk, it is extremely painful, I get a strange choking sensation in my throat, my voice seems to not be working right, and the quality of my voice varies greatly, from somewhat normal to barely audible. I also have difficulty swallowing that is, at times, bad enough that I can barely eat or drink anything.
Avatar m tn It may be laryngitis which is inflammation of the voice box. This can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, mucus coating due to post nasal drip, irritation of the throat and voice box by irritants. Irritants can be anything from dust, smoke, etc. Damage can also be caused if you suffer from acid reflux. You may have damage to the vocal chords by over use, or by straining the vocal chords. If you do sing, then do make sure you do vocal warm ups.
Avatar m tn Now this problem with my throat and losing my voice. Is it really caused by anxiety or is it something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Avatar m tn s never really been an issue. Recently I develoloped serious problems with my voice and throat and I went to a specialist where I had a gastroscopy done as he felt it that my reflux could possibly be causing the problem. I was put on Protium 40 initially but my GP put me on Protium 20 after about three months(mistake on her part possibly) which has controlled it but I still get reflux from time to time. I have been on protium for 6 months approx but my vocal issues still exist.
Avatar f tn I had this happen a couple of years ago. I developed head tremors and a shaky voice. The head tremors I still get from time to time, but I've not had any problems with a shaky voice. Your voice can be affected by an MS attack.
Avatar n tn It feels like something is wrapped around my throat restricking my throat. I also start to lose my voice late in the day, It seems like the more I talk the worse it gets. I seen an ear, nose and throat Dr. and he scoped my throat. He said that the plate from the fusion is pushing on my throat and has taken up the room that the vocal cords need and that they get inflamed. He feels the plate should be removed for it will cause more problem later.
1253197 tn?1331209110 I have experienced this once before I was diagnosed with MS and I developed a hoarse voice without a sore throat. I am a singer but this happened before all the major carol services/singing and it is still croaky now. I am not unwell, just a bit tired but hey that is fairly normal these days and to be expected with all the family home and additional cooking, housework not to mention Christmas.
Avatar n tn I am glad that you are on an antibiotic , as allergens & irritants can set the perfect stage for an infection that is bacterial to take hold. You said that you have had a horrible chest infection & are constantly clearing your throat? When an infection sets into your sinuses , the postnasal drip from that can make a person feel like there is thick mucus sort of "stuck' in the throat area.
1745395 tn?1342061753 Have any of you had experiences with a throat tickle, or loss of voice/voice that is followed by a cough/throat tickle that doesn't stop for about 2 to 3 minutes? As the voice change occurs the tickle starts and then coughing starts and continues for a bit. Drinking water does not help it, though a warm tea can aide a little bit, then after a bit it goes away.
Avatar f tn I was told by my surgeon that my vocal cord was bruised from pulling during surgery and that the nerve was not cut and when the swelling gones down my cord should start back working it have been 11 months and i still have problems eating and drinking. My voice is weak, hoarse. My ENT doctor performed 2 injections so far this help with choking on food but not my voice. What else can be done?
Avatar f tn It can cause fungal infections, hoarseness, and temporary loss of voice. You may need to have a throat culture done to make sure you do not have a fungal infection. I am not saying that this is the only possible reason you have problems losing your voice, but I would put it at or close to the top of the list. Hope this helps!
567489 tn?1297250714 Because of the quu ality oof my voice (breathy weak croaky raspy etc) and choking swallowing problems, i ihad a videolyrnoscopy (oh and a swallow study). It reveiled a slight spasm on one side and a weakness on the other. I had done extensive voice therapy and speech therapy ,and while it never came back close to normal, now I am safer eatting and can be heard and undersstood.
Avatar n tn I make this annoying noise with my voice because it relievs the pressure in my throat for a few seconds . I am constantly making this noise to relieve the pressure.
Avatar f tn It feels like it is swelling and I am always without a voice. It feels like my throat is tight day and night for some reason. I do have breathing problems and I do not smoke. I have lost 60 pounds and my doctor is taking me off depression pills slowly. The only thing new in my home is my plants with fresh earth and none of them flower. It is hard enough to breathe but in the last while it is getting even harder. I can not go out in the humid weather or in the cold.
Avatar n tn t been able to sing, it is even difficult to talk, and I really have to force my voice to speak.. I did lose my voice for a whole week... I am worried; does this mean I have an infection....Should i go see the doctor, oh and another question...I don't know if this has to do with my voice...I suffer since almost 2 years of noise congestion, I have a lot o f mucus(dry mucus) and I can smell and bad odor when I blow my noise.
228936 tn?1249094248 Hi, I have some reflux problems and swallowing /throat problems that my doctor said could be from long term untreated reflux. Could this make it difficult to sing, ie, making my throat feel irritated while singing? This is a problem because I am a musician and am expected to sing sometimes.
Avatar f tn This problem is common when the connective tissue forms between the scar and the voice box. Sometimes it may take as long as 4-6 monts to fully restore the voice. I guess the old book about thyroid surgery was too optimistic telling that the connective tissue breaks away after 20 days since the forming of the scar.
