Common Questions and Answers about Throat problems losing voice

Avatar m tn Now this problem with my throat and losing my voice. Is it really caused by anxiety or is it something else. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hot honey and lemon drink. Hot tea and if your throat is still sore salt gargle. Which is hot water with as much salt as you can, then gargle about three times. It tastes revolting but it always kills my sore throats fast.
Avatar f tn Every winter I lose my voice. My throat doesn't get sore anything but it gets real dry. It almost feels like, and this is gonna sound gross but I don't know how else to describe it, there is hardened snot in my throat. When I eat something or drink something warm it kind of breaks up a little and I can cough some of it up but it's not phlegm. It's like a real hardened snot kind if like the consistency of a just moistened corn flake.
Avatar n tn Is it possible for a hiatial hernia to cause problems with my throat and voice. My symptoms are loss of voice when I talk for a little while---I can no longer sing---I can't get any range at all----my voice has grown so low that when I answer the phone people think its my husband answering. If you have any ideas I'd certainly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn I am not saying that this is the only possible reason you have problems losing your voice, but I would put it at or close to the top of the list. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn one of the sideeffects is hoaresness and you can lose your voice. I've been using Advair for a week and a half and I do have to clear my throat more than normal but haven't had any problems with losing my voice.
Avatar f tn It feels like it is swelling and I am always without a voice. It feels like my throat is tight day and night for some reason. I do have breathing problems and I do not smoke. I have lost 60 pounds and my doctor is taking me off depression pills slowly. The only thing new in my home is my plants with fresh earth and none of them flower. It is hard enough to breathe but in the last while it is getting even harder. I can not go out in the humid weather or in the cold.

I went to Boston ENT. They did a scope up my nose down my throat. said it looked fine and to get a appt. with larangology. He uped my protonix. But i have not had stomach issues it is under control. He also said it could be anxiety, but i have had that all my life and never lost my voice.

Avatar m tn A few days ago, while trying to belt out some higher notes, I hurt my voice. My voice is hoarse, and in the hollow of my throat, right between my collar bones, there is a burning sensation. My voice cracks occasionally, and I noticed a loss of one octave spanning across the past five months, and it gets tired really easily. I have put myself on vocal rest, and have been keeping the talking to a minimum. I also noticed that when I sing, my larynx goes up really high. What could this be?
Avatar n tn For several months I'll be fine and then all the sudden the thick mucous and the sinus infection like symptons occur. There's no pattern. It could be allergy season or not allergy season. I eat the same basic foods and drink the same drinks(milketc) all the time and am just fine then all the sudden out of nowhere will have the thick continuous mucous and will coat my vocal cords causing me to lose my singing voice or even my speaking.
Avatar n tn A day later I started to lose my voice and could not get rid of the sore throat. I have always had bouts of pharyngitis, though never with voice loss. That is what it feels like, pharyngitis. Could the badly decayed tooth be causing the pharyngitis + the voice loss.?
Avatar f tn What do you mean "some tissue?" Like a goiter, "growth" My sons both had mono & never lost their voice. My youngest son had so many strep throat cases that he finally got his tonsils & adnoids removed at 5 years old. Never lost his voice. Why is he losing his voice?? From "some tissue," his thryoid, or what? What was the doctors explanation on why he has no voice. That would be my question.
Avatar n tn Frequent vocal abuse can cause temporary or permanent changes in vocal function, voice quality, and possible loss of voice. This can be diagnosed by a throat examination. This can lead to disorders like laryngitis, vocal nodules, vocal polyp and sometimes contact ulcers on the vocal cords. But these changes are reversible if the causative factors are dealt with. And sometimes voice therapy is helpful.
Avatar f tn When I get excited like at football games or loud parties my throat seems to tighten up and my voice is altered to very low like laryngitis until I settle down and its over. At night I seem to have to clear my throat alot if I don't constantly drink water. I also notice that my tonsils have cryptic craddles and some times collect food thats eaten and decays causing very bad breath even when I can't see anything in my tonsils.
Avatar f tn I think it has something to do with the jaw, the muscles in the throat and the nerves in the throat which are being vibrated by the vocal chords. I saw an ENT last fall. He said my vocal chords were just fine. He saw something else a little red but could not see any reason why I couldn't talk. I was a little hoarse at that time but had a lot of pain in my throat. I would like to be able to sing as I go through school (getting my Masters in Music Education).
