Avatar n tn Is it possible for a hiatial hernia to cause problems with my throat and voice. My symptoms are loss of voice when I talk for a little while---I can no longer sing---I can't get any range at all----my voice has grown so low that when I answer the phone people think its my husband answering. If you have any ideas I'd certainly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn Every winter I lose my voice. My throat doesn't get sore anything but it gets real dry. It almost feels like, and this is gonna sound gross but I don't know how else to describe it, there is hardened snot in my throat. When I eat something or drink something warm it kind of breaks up a little and I can cough some of it up but it's not phlegm. It's like a real hardened snot kind if like the consistency of a just moistened corn flake.
Avatar f tn I am not saying that this is the only possible reason you have problems losing your voice, but I would put it at or close to the top of the list. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn for the past month I have had a rraspy voice almost at times losing it . My throat is sore at times and I have a cough with it . I know I should go to my doctor...but I am scared what he might say . Please if you will respond to this question I would appreciate it .
Avatar f tn It feels like it is swelling and I am always without a voice. It feels like my throat is tight day and night for some reason. I do have breathing problems and I do not smoke. I have lost 60 pounds and my doctor is taking me off depression pills slowly. The only thing new in my home is my plants with fresh earth and none of them flower. It is hard enough to breathe but in the last while it is getting even harder. I can not go out in the humid weather or in the cold.
Avatar f tn one of the sideeffects is hoaresness and you can lose your voice. I've been using Advair for a week and a half and I do have to clear my throat more than normal but haven't had any problems with losing my voice.
Avatar m tn A few days ago, while trying to belt out some higher notes, I hurt my voice. My voice is hoarse, and in the hollow of my throat, right between my collar bones, there is a burning sensation. My voice cracks occasionally, and I noticed a loss of one octave spanning across the past five months, and it gets tired really easily. I have put myself on vocal rest, and have been keeping the talking to a minimum. I also noticed that when I sing, my larynx goes up really high. What could this be?
Avatar m tn said i have sinus drip that causes me to cough a lot.Inhaler helped, but now i find i am losing my voice.I had a sore throat for 2 weeks, now my voice is very weak, only whisper, and some flem at back of throat at times. If i talk normal cracky and difficult for 2 weeks now.Sometimes i feel inhaler is causing my voice problems or both? i seem to have had this voice problem, but much less for years but not this bad, especially when i could feel sinus dripping down back of throat.
Avatar f tn I think it has something to do with the jaw, the muscles in the throat and the nerves in the throat which are being vibrated by the vocal chords. I saw an ENT last fall. He said my vocal chords were just fine. He saw something else a little red but could not see any reason why I couldn't talk. I was a little hoarse at that time but had a lot of pain in my throat. I would like to be able to sing as I go through school (getting my Masters in Music Education).
Avatar n tn I had my thyroid removed a week ago today, and I have had zero problems with my voice. I had a bad sore throat for a bit from the breathing tube during surgery, but that was really it. I do local community theatre and was worried about my voice, as well, and the doctor (general surgeon for me) he couldn't guarantee anything, of course. I'm not sure how rare of an effect it is, though. It really can be the luck of the draw, I think.
Avatar f tn What do you mean "some tissue?" Like a goiter, "growth" My sons both had mono & never lost their voice. My youngest son had so many strep throat cases that he finally got his tonsils & adnoids removed at 5 years old. Never lost his voice. Why is he losing his voice?? From "some tissue," his thryoid, or what? What was the doctors explanation on why he has no voice. That would be my question.
Avatar m tn Im 37 years old male, start of 2014 I got really sick, lost 17kg in two weeks and started having non stop throat problems, My local GP is useless! All he has diagnosed me with is anxiety and has given me somac for acid reflux which is not helping. It feels like someone is strangling me all the time, my glands are always swollen and I'm always spitting out a thick white phlem, plus coughing up a green & yellow moucus that is in a clear thick phlem .
Avatar f tn I have problems with my voice and have for about 30 yrs.I got hit in the throat causing a bone that controls one side of my voice box. I don't know about that type of surgery, but if you were put to sleep they insert a tube down your airway and inflat a balloon to hold it in place. If it is not properly deflated before removing, it can also break those bones. That would give you air instead of sound.
Avatar f tn Hi there. I need some help here. I have been having problems with my voice for a while now, and it has gotten worse to the point that I have almost completely lost my voice. If I do try to talk, it is extremely painful, I get a strange choking sensation in my throat, my voice seems to not be working right, and the quality of my voice varies greatly, from somewhat normal to barely audible. I also have difficulty swallowing that is, at times, bad enough that I can barely eat or drink anything.
Avatar m tn It may be laryngitis which is inflammation of the voice box. This can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, mucus coating due to post nasal drip, irritation of the throat and voice box by irritants. Irritants can be anything from dust, smoke, etc. Damage can also be caused if you suffer from acid reflux. You may have damage to the vocal chords by over use, or by straining the vocal chords. If you do sing, then do make sure you do vocal warm ups.
Avatar n tn I had a camera on a tube placed down my throat before and after my surgery to inspect the larynx/voice box to make sure it looked healthy before and after. The other possible complication was damage to the parathyroid glands, which are attached tot the posterior (back) of the thyroid in four places, two on each lobe. If the whole thyroid is removed, there is a higher risk of losing the parathyroid glands, which causes an inability to properly regulate calcium levels.
Avatar f tn I keep losing my voice and I have seen an ENT (vocal chords red and swollen) and asthma doctor. Concluded that I have asthma but very mild put on Symbicort. This has happened about 9 times since last July. Last anywhere from 3-4 weeks. This time I have been fighting it for 4 weeks.
Avatar n tn Both cause some thyroid enlargement, occassional hoarse voice and sore throat - but PPT does the latter two more commonly. Hair loss is due to postpartum and the hyper combo - not likely the tapazole - it will stop usually within 2 months of starting.
Avatar f tn T GO AWAY, I TRED COUGH SYRUPS, GARGLED WITH WARM SALT WATER, SUCKED ON HALLS AND HARD CANDY, STILL NO HELP, ALWAYS HAD TO CLEAR MY THROAT, I MEAN LIKE EVERY 3 MINUTES, LIKE SOMETHING WAS STUCK IN THE BACK OF MY THROAT, I DID THIS TO THE POINT MY THROAT FELT RAW AND SORE, MY VOICE WAS ALMOST GONE AND I KNOW I WAS DAMAGING MY VOCAL CORDS CLEARING MY THROAT SO MUCH, BUT COULDN'T STOP!!! Avatar m tn s never really been an issue. Recently I develoloped serious problems with my voice and throat and I went to a specialist where I had a gastroscopy done as he felt it that my reflux could possibly be causing the problem. I was put on Protium 40 initially but my GP put me on Protium 20 after about three months(mistake on her part possibly) which has controlled it but I still get reflux from time to time. I have been on protium for 6 months approx but my vocal issues still exist.
