Common Questions and Answers about Throat and windpipe

throat

Avatar m tn Sometimes if I smell something strong, it makes me feel like I want to cough, a strange sensation in the throat and windpipe. What can be causing this? Unrelated, I sometimes bring up white 'bits' which look like nuts but aren't...any ideas about this?
Avatar n tn If a foreign body enters the windpipe it causes intense retching and coughing. This is protective mechanism, so that nothing enters the windpipe. Even while eating if we happen to laugh and something goes accidentally into the trachea (windpipe), it causes coughing. That sensation may be there in the throat. So, for something to lodge there it is difficult, but to clear doubts, can always have an X ray taken. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I would like to add that I have Barrets Esphogus and had a EGD done in February. Does a EGD check for throat cancer or just stomach and Esphogus issues? Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be? Could it be throat cancer?
Avatar m tn Recently I have have a terrible long standing sore throat and several hard lumps on the front and side of my throat(windpipe) and lower down on the neck. These dont feel like lymph nodes, they feel like proper lumps. I have had MULTIPLE courses of antibiotics(finished the most recent course two days ago) and no success. It is an 18 month wait to see an ENT and my GP isnt taking this very seriously. I do smoke and socially drink. I am miserable form this.
Avatar m tn It was like I swallowed down my windpipe, and it took a minute or two to clear my throat and get back to normal swallowing and breathing. Since then I've had multiple episodes where I go to swallow food or water, and feel like the same thing is going to happen. Only once did I actually get food stuck in my throat, but I was able to bring it back up immediately and then swallow normally.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for thyroid for many years..the pressure on my windpipe drives me crazy..
Avatar m tn I would follow instructions from Dr.Parks. I personally experienced choking and aspiration. I was tested by an ENT with years of experience as a Dr. The flap that stops food and liquid going into the windpipe was relaxed. I had therapy and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. The age is in question here, because these symptoms are present with a stroke patient. Good Luck with proper diagnosis.
Avatar n tn You know when you swallow a drink and some gets into your windpipe and you are left gasping for air until you cough it out? Well, I get a tickle in my tonsils that causes me to gasp for air and cough like I got liquid in my windpipe. When it happens I have to drink or chew gum to relieve it. Lastnight I woke up gasping for air with the tickle in tonsils. What could possibly be causing this? I don't have a sore throat or a viral infection. I have had this for years.
Avatar n tn I also have this discomfort/pain in my throat during periods of throwing PVC's. My cardiologist said it's the blood coming up and being forced through the vein right in that spot. She said that's why it is painful and feels almost like there's a lump in my throat. I've pain very close attention and I don't have it unless I'm throwing PVC's, so I'm pretty confident that she's correct.
329165 tn?1515471990 Otolaryngologist said that the Botillium would not work as he can not go near the UES area as relaxation can cause food/fluids to go down the windpipe and aspirate food, etc. I still have all my symptoms from prior to the Botillium injection and now I am left with more questions and do not know how to solve the issue. Any help, info would be appreciated at this point.

No runny nose, but sometimes when I cough I bring up mucus but not all the time.. Seem I got nasal drip, please tell me how to cure it for good . I take allegra but that is not helping.
Avatar f tn t realise there was still a piece of meat (chicken) in my mouth. I inhaled it, and it got sucked into my throat. Is it possible that, although I didn't really have to cough, it still went to my lungs? Or can it go to your stomach, even if I was inhaling so my windpipe was open? And if it did went to my lungs, how long would it take to get symptoms of the pneumonia I would get? It has now been 2 days. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn You are probably experiencing sleep apnea. The muscles in the throat relax during sleep and if there is enough pressure around the throat this may lead to an obstruction of the respiratory pathway. This causes snoring or even pauses in breathing. This form of sleep apnea is called obstructive sleep apnea. People may experience this occationally, for example if they have an infection in the throat such as a cold.
700966 tn?1228661931 Steve, I had this very symptom and didnt eat for a week, felt as something was stuck in my throat. I went to the ear nose and throat Dr. and he ran a scope to see if something was wronge.Needless to say I just walked out with a script for XANAX. Nothing more than my anxiety. It can cause all kinds of symptoms. But I agree with Remar you need to get checked out ! Better safe than sorry :-) Hope you feel better really soon!!!! Keep us updated!
Avatar m tn I have a strange tickle in my throat .It seem like lint,or dust hits my throat and causes me to constantly cough.I have vomit on a full stomach if I have to constantly cough. This is so embarrassing picking my daughter up from school, work,or out in public. My doctor has given me allergy pills and nasal spray none of these seem to work.I read all of the above comments and I seem to have the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn well my throat still feels scratchy and today i was having water and it kinda went the wrong way so i coughed and my throat and middle chest hurt a lot. do y think it might be a cold ? 10 mins on my throat stil hurts (but not my chest) i don't smoke or drink, i exercise (this pain is unrelated to exercise) . what do y think?
Avatar m tn t have constant burning in my throat and windpipe. Only have occasional heartburn and not often enough for it to be a concern. Could my throat symptoms still point to GERD as being what is wrong with me? The sensation is not painful but is annoying and sometimes makes breathing seem difficult even though I am getting enough oxygen into my system.
Avatar f tn Top left of throat permanently sore (poss vocal fold?) and throat generally is tickly but no infection there. Had chest infection which is now clear. Blue asthma inhaler caused coughing and laryngospasms so was stopped. Steroids helped the original chest problems but don’t help the “new” post-chest infection cough so were stopped. Been prescribed omeprazole twice a day, but again, no help.
Avatar f tn i can just be setting at my computer typing away and suddenly something rises up into my throat and i go to spit it out and it is this chunk that looks a little like cottage cheese and smells like feces.it is also white in color just like cottage cheese.i have had my gallbladder and appendix removed so i know it isn't either of those..i am at a loss and worried about what this could be.It has been happening now for about a year and seems to happen more often lately.
Avatar m tn t seem out of breath from the wheezing and it seems to stop if I clear my throat. Is it possible to just have wheezing from on drip and in throat and not have it be asthma? I am very concerned about all this. I will be starting allergy drops this week .
Avatar f tn 5 cm-had wrapped around the windpipe, squeezing and mis-aligning it. After op left vocal chord not working and still got hoarse voice and breathing problems. Do you think it will all improve or am in trouble? I'm a secondary teacher an can't see how I can do my job the way I am at the moment.
617254 tn?1240421622 I will assume you had anterior fusion? When they go in the front, they actually move the windpipe and esophagus to the side to get to the spine. It's no wonder our throats hurt. I had trouble swallowing for a long time. Take very small bites of soft foods, yoghurt, mashed potatos, milkshakes, jello. You get the idea. If your pills just won't go down, crush them if you can, stir into applesauce, and take them that way. And also avoid hot foods and drinks.
Avatar m tn m 16 years old and I get the sensation that when I inhale, my windpipe will tighten up and will not be able to breathe, like my windpipe would just close, I am very stressed and worried by this and I don't know how long it's going to last. This happens usually when I'm sitting down or walking, I don't smoke or anything like that, I don't have trouble swallowing or talking. My throat has been tight for the whole month and I was scheduled for an appointment to the ENT doctor.
Avatar f tn You might have a goiter (general swelling/inflammation of the thyroid), or you might have thyroid nodules (small overgrowths of thyroid tissue, similar to cysts). If you have either (most of us with thyroid disease have one or both), it could impact your breathing by constricting your windpipe. You should tell your doctor about this, and he should order a thyroid ultrasound so that he can see the physical charactistics of your thyroid.
Avatar f tn Its not round and doesnt really have a shape - its just along the right side of my windpipe and a bit towards the back (inwards, where my artery is) The pain in my neck was increasing, getting more intense and much more frequent. It does not hurt to touch, but if I lean forward and come back up - I get a weird sensation in my neck. If I cough or sneeze, I may get a slight dull pain, perhaps a sharp one - it really varies.
Avatar m tn I have a small lump on one side of my Uvula. My ear, nose, and throat specailist believes it is a wart or papiloma and wants to remove and biopsy it in a horrifically expensive operation. If left alone, would the lump eventually go away? Would I still have the HPV virus if I have the operation? Would I still have the HPV virus if it goes away?
