In some people, tenofovir can increase creatinine and transaminases. These are enzymes related to the kidneys and liver. High levels can indicate damage to these organs.
Tenofovir can reduce bone mineral density (see fact sheet 557). Calcium or vitamin D supplements may be helpful. This is especially true for people with osteopenia or osteoporosis.
Levels of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis, see Fact Sheet 556) increase in some people taking nucleoside analog drugs.

I had just finished cleaning out my locker, I was a member of the CFD for 26 yrs, and had just gotten finished with my 3rd of 5 surgeries. To say I was depressed is an understatement. First thing i would do is go to another Cardologesr, for asecond opione, you could a another blockage, and by the way abllod clot to the heart is a heart attack.are yuo on blood thinnr, yuo also might have a valve problem, have yuo had a echo carogram? and please f this happens againe befrore you get to ee a DR. go to the emergency room.
any drug has sides but you have to be mart to understand who develops sides, on the contraru you are taking drugs that make damage in your situation, Lyvomin is a useless drug and has no indication on hbv
vitamin B can have sides and in the wrong dose can make liver damage and death...i guess tenofovir cannot kill, so what do you think vitamin B is a killing drug?
You are correct that Truvada is a combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine, and is generally prescribed for patients with HIV. Being a HBV forum, most of us know very little about Truvada except that it is prescribed off-label for HBV by some doctors, and that it is recommended for HBV patients who develop resistance to Tenofovir.
checking tenofovir trials on hbv only (no hiv coinfection) kidney problems are in less than 1% patients and i haven't found tx discontinuation because of kidney problems.
hbv has no mutations at all under tenofovir tx and i think we can find data from some patients using tenofovir for more than 3 years even if not on trial about this.
entecavir mono has only 1.2% resistance but has several hbv mutations anyway altough only 1.2% has resistance to entecavir.

For the first 39 months of use of entecavir/tenofovir there is not significant difference in HCC development for tenofovir vs entecavir for non-cirrhotic...as probably expected since pre-malignancy was probably already developed in those HCC cases. For Cirrhotic tenofovir maybe seems to be just slightly better option.
For non-cirrhotic usage of interferon in the past reduced chances of HCC by 29% in this study.
the liver repairs itself, hbv makes no damage on most and about 10-20% can get cirrhosis after a life time
you need to check fibroscan, hbsag quantity in iu/ml, hbeag, ast/alt, hbvdna and then consider if sequential treatment of tenofovir and peginterferon add on might work in your case, this treatmnet takes 3-5years of tenofovir and then another 2 years tenofovir+peginterferon, 50% clear first year and 90% lower hbsag by first year.

sue_th, I have been there and I have my little boy, he is very healthy with no HBV. Are you on any anitiviral treatment. For pregnancy, they advice Tenofovir.

Unfortunately, the reports by these financial advisors/reporters frequently lack the necessary precision. In this case the difference would be critical. I am not sure at this point what to trust, since in some presentations the company actually seemingly used simple Tenofovir, not TDF as a comparison drug.
Taf is just the same as tenofovir, with a different way of action, it gets absorbed slowly, so one could minimise the dose relative to tenofovir to spare the kidneys and bones. Nothing to be highly optimistic about these so far useless antiviral drugs.
Instead of targetting the culprit of hbv viral persistence, the cccDNA, the researchers are just focussing on something irrelevant. May be their aim is not to find a cure but to only keep us poor chronic hbvers on their antivirals for ever.
hiv use of tenofovir is not to be considered because hiv damages kidneys too, on hbv trials kidney toxicity is no issue since only 1% developped toxicity and lowering tenofovir dose resolve this and tenofovir is still very active on hbv.unfortunately there is no research on optimal dose of tenofovir on hbv without sides (tenofovir is produced by gilead and they wanted to push use of hespera and probably hiden tenofovir from 2001...
