Taking cymbalta for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Taking cymbalta for ocd

Avatar m tn I am in agreement about the effexor, did I ever have a hard time geeting off of it. I stayed without meds for awhile but I realized that wasn't too smart. Currently I have been taking Lexapro, hardly any side effects. Also Cymbalta is a good one. These are mood stabilizers and something is better than nothing but I am in agreement about the effexor....
712802 tn?1274649085 Combining Cymbalta and Abilify is not a problem. I was on both for about 2 years, before changing Cymbalta for another antidepressant. Yes, Abilify can, but only definitely, cause a movement disorder called akathisia. It causes a restless feeling which could cause you to need to pace, or cross and uncross your legs... something like that. I did get akathisia but opted to stay on Abilify because it helped me so much.
Avatar f tn Has anybody ever tried cymbalta or savella and does it help ,quickly sigh....I have been on 3ml of ativan a day for 3 years (too long) in hopes that I would be able to find a SSRI to help so I could wean off as it doesnt do much anymore and makes me cold brrr....With fibro it makes one more sensitive to meds and I find the SSRI's make my fibro worse.
Avatar f tn I found this forum while searching for reasons people take Wellbutrin. I took it at first as a booster to cymbalta for OCD anxiety. I've never had depression, but when I get put on an ssri I get so depressed I develop suicidal thoughts, especially on amitriptelene sp?
Avatar m tn d also want it out of my system before I took other drugs -- that's another reason it's an odd drug for an eleven year old. Cymbalta is also pretty serious stuff for anyone, let alone someone that young, and acts quite differently than Luvox as it also targets norepinephrine, which can make it very stimulating for some. I wouldn't see this doc again, and I'd find a psychiatrist who knows how to treat children. Also look into Cymbalta's liver toxicity.
Avatar m tn I have minor OCD with some anxiety. I take Cymbalta and a little klonipin for it and the combination has worked great. I found the klonipin works well for anxiety. When I first started it I had to keep upping the dosage then I stayed at the same dose for a while and then without really paying attention to what I was doing I've lowered the dose I'm taking to a low maintenance dose....and that I can always up if I feel more anxious. It's worked well for me. Just a thought.
3161914 tn?1344106218 i know there has been a lot of focus on the involvement of excess glutamate in the brain in relation to ocd and depression. So far i've tried 3 different anti depressants which have had negative results. I am not sold yet on the serotonin theory. I appreciate the reply.
Avatar f tn 3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg. The first week I took 30mg Cymbalta then 2nd week and since, no Cymbalta and only Pristiq (still taking buspar & Xanax prn) I feel I'm noticing small improvements in the past cpl weeks but not back to normal. Today is a rough day with anxiety/adrenaline/agitation. I so want outta this hole and praying it works for me. Anyone else have success switching to Pristiq? Would like to hear how long it took for ppl to notice a difference.
1749731 tn?1362100113 I then switched to Cymbalta which worked really well for me. My OCD symptoms were pretty mild on Cymbalta. Moving to more recent times. I started TTC in November 2010. In May 2011 I decided I would stop the cymbalta and deal with OCD in fear that medicine would harm my soon to be baby. Everything was going pretty good off the meds. By July 2011 I was diagnosed with infertility. Big blow to the chest, yup! That is about the time that the OCD really started taking off.
Avatar m tn They work for both OCD and anxiety as well. As I said, I take Wellbutrin and it has worked well for me. I also have klonopin to take as needed but I only need it at night to sleep. You did not mention your son taking a benzodiazepine. In the past I have taken Prozac which also worked well for me. I cannot say which one was better other than the Wellbutrin has less side effects in the long run. However, all of these medications usually increase anxiety when you first start taking them.
Avatar f tn Since I was first prescribed these meds for post-pardom depression 4 years ago, I have been on 9 different medicines trying to find "the right one" for me. Turns out, I don't need any. I only had post-pardom depression and have OCD (which I can control on my own with the aid of Ativan on rare occassions of severe attacks of anxiety). So, About 1 1/2 months ago I finally made it through the hell that Cymbalta was causing me.
1487057 tn?1288161345 I have heard that the anti depressant Cymbalta works well to combat both and im considering taking that even tho its only an anti depressant and not a mood stabiliser.. Will it bring on mania???
2079692 tn?1332062663 Hi I am taking some Homeopathic medicine, not very significant results yet. Basically I also have severe health anxiety.
Avatar m tn Citalopram is used to treat the symptoms of major depression, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and OCD. If this medication worked for you for a long time and you like it why would you want to change medicine? There is another class of drug you could try if you really want to try something else and it's the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) they a class of antidepressant drugs used in the treatment of major depression and other mood disorders.
Avatar f tn Why is that, because AD throw you into mania most probably and thus the viscious circle. For example I was dx OCD 6 years ago and I took anafranil (tricyclics) and I kept oscillating between hypomania and depression. So your friend saying she can combine anafranil with prozac is the worse thing she can do (in my view of course not being a pdoc).
Avatar n tn Thanks everybody for their response. I've been taking the Buspar for about eight or nine weeks now. It may be helping but if it is it's marginal. I'm not using the lexapro as needed, just the klonopin, Hopefully the therapy will work long term and a med till I get there. One thing I find most troubling is I don't find a lot of success stories from people via the net with their anxiety.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am currently taking Paxil for my anxiety/depression/ocd... and it has definitely alleviated the symptoms. I know that all meds are different for everyone... so it might not be the right one for you - but it was the first one my doctor put me on, and i have been responding well to it... Usually I am more sensitive to the side effects of medications and the only side effect I have experienced from Paxil is slight dizziness.
Avatar n tn Could someone tell me how Neurontin has helped or hurt them. I have been taking it at night 300mg small dose for sleep and Chronic Pain. I dont want to go to a higher dosage until I research more. My doctor says this is a good helpful medicine. I just want to get more input. Thank you very much for your help. Shelly.
Avatar m tn I am taking Klonopin for anxiety and it seems to have calmed me down a lot but I still experience overly sensitive fingertips which I think is anxiety related. I've read on this forum that klonopin is best for panic attacks which I don't have and valium and librium are more appropriate for anxiety symptoms. Since valium makes me very sleepy I am thinking of trying librium with the hope it eliminates this annoying symptom. I am taking 1mg of klonopin twice per day. Is it ok to switch over?
Avatar n tn I am also taking percocet for the horrible panic episodes that I have because that seems to work as well for me. I think I know why this works for some people. In an article that I read a couple of years ago,(unfortunatly I lost it) they said that the brain produces it's own morphine. Some people's brain are actually deprived of that which is why we need opiates to feel normal and balanced. If I find this article again I will post it.
351317 tn?1204755471 Consider taking L-Tryptophan to create serotonin for snappy, etc., Melatonin for sleep and, last, Tyrosine for your weepy moods(Tyrosine is the precursor of three most essential Neurotransmitters during stressful conditions, and they are Dopamine, Epinephrine and Nor Epinephrine. These are the basis of elevating mood and concentration.
Avatar f tn I was put on Xanax which helped some , but it wasn't until I started taking Prozac at age 35 was I finally free....no more panic attacks and no ocd (well maybe a tiny bit) but it was NOTHING that really bothered me.Prior to The Prozac and xanax , I for over could barely leave my home ...I was a prisoner 2+ years. I was panic attack free from the time I was 35 until last year when I turned 54! I had a full blown panic attack at The Cheese Cake Factory when My Sister and I were out for lunch ...
Avatar m tn Since you have had OCD for a while you know that all of these thoughts are irrational thoughts that just get stuck in our head. I'm a little confused when you say that the therapist said that Paxil is part of the cause of you having this OCD flare up. I am also assuming that you have been on it for a while so it does not really make sense to me. Also you mentioned benzodiazepine and you think this is also contributing to your recent flare up since you have been taking it "Heavily.
522415 tn?1242941355 Just tell your doctor that you have tried butabol compound for pain before and it seemed to help. I have been taking it for 3 years now for my fibromyalgia pain and it has really eased it about 60 percent. I am on disability for it if that tells you how much pain i was in. Anyway just a suggestion. Wish you all the best, God Bless!
Avatar m tn If your taking it for OCD the the general dosage may be only 50Mgs a day. DON'T INCREASE THE DOSAGE BEFORE CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR FIRST. Trust me I learned this one the hard way with a Cymbalta and Eskalith combo and it damn near killed me. I took way too much and got very sick. Last time I ever disregard my P-Docs orders.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia years ago after suffering my whole life (even as an infant) and being repeatedly told I had 'growing pains' (even after years of not even growing!!). I am not on anything specifically for fibromyalgia pain however I find that my medication for my mental illnesses (will list below) have been helpful in managing the pain. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, OCD, Anxiety, ADHD and fibromyalgia + currently I have a shoulder injury.
Avatar f tn I'm a 28 year old woman and I have been taking medication for OCD since I was 11 years old. I've taken all kinds of medications, from Tricyclic to SSRI's to SNRI's. I do drink alcohol pretty much every weekend. Are some medications worse to drink with than others? Specifically, I am about to start taking Cymbalta and want to know the dangers of drinking on it. I have already tried Effexor and was on it for over a year. What are the dangers of drinking on Effexor? Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn I have had ocd for approx. 30 years. My doctors believe it started when my parents divorced when I was 9. However i was not diagnosed until I was 16 because I was embarrased to tell my doctor about the obsessions and compulsions..At that time he put me a seratonin inhibitor. Over the last 20 years I have done well with my ocd.
Avatar m tn I am also on Cymbalta but want to get off of that and get put on a medication that helps more for OCD. I was on Prozac for 11 years and it was great at first, but I felt it pooped out after all of those years. Hope this helps.
