My lips swelled up out-of-the-blue a week ago. I'm thinking it was a sun allergy because I'd just come from a 4-day seaside vacation. And, although I was very good with sunscreen on most of my body, I feel I may have neglected my lips. I'm pretty sure it's not a food allergy as I ate very simply that day (I did have a couple walnuts but I'd been eating walnuts all weekend, and most of my life, and nothing occurred.
The other day my bottom lip was tingling on the right side, but i didn't think anything of it because i had a pimple coming up just below my lip so i thought that was it. The next day the right side of my bottom lip was swollen and was bigger by night time. The next day, today, it is very swollen. I ruled out the pimple because it is just about gone now,but the swollen lip remains. I've never had a problem like this before. Why is this happening?

Some causes of the symptoms you mention, could be lip biting, lip licking, Vit.B2 deficiency, smoking, overexposure to sun and ill fitting dentures. In extreme cases, this could be due to bacterial or fungal skin infection.
You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day and eat a balanced diet. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.

This is crazy my DD went out today, just to the pharmacy. We thought ok first dat out since being in the hospital for ever. That's a good thing. But then when we got back her upper lip was swollen, it was the crasiest of things. Then she drank a cold glass of juice with ice and it went down.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Please let us know.
My face is a little pink too, minor sun burn. And I woke up today with localized swelling on the right side of my bottom lip. There are no visible sores, no white spots but just localized pain on the right side of bottom lip, ice reduced the swelling. Since I had a herpes scare a month ago (I had itching and one lesion on my vulva.... I'm REALLY freaking out and worried that this is oral herpes. Is this a sunburn or oral herpes.
For 4 to 5 yrs I've been having a lip problem. They will get red and swollen 1st then blister then they burst and ooze very painful then peel. Sometimes they will get better and then sometimes they continue to repeat this over and over. It can get better in 10 days or several weeks. It seems to happen in summer mostly and especially when I'm on vacation in the sun. Do I feel like sun is definitely a factor.
At first it happened once every few days but now everymorning I wake up with a swollen lip and it being numb in the area. Feels like the novacaine used by dentists. Its always a specic region of the lip, usually the right or left side. Either upper or lower lip. There is no itching, burning, or pus in the area. Only swollen lip that is numb. I have now notices the lower side of my face getting swollen accomponied with the side of of lip.

You need to drink plenty of water and also keep your lips well moisturized. Apply a medicated lip balm with a sunscreen to avoid damage due to the sun.
Eat a healthy diet and replace it with any deficient vitamins and minerals.
If your lesions still persist, it would be best to see a skin specialist for a confirmed diagnosis and to rule out any other cause of the spot.
Are you allergic to any substances? What symptoms do you have other than the lip lesion? What is your age?
I read an article about sun uv light triggering it and decided to get lip balm w/an spf of 45 (hawaiian tropic) I put that on my lips at least 30 min before i leave the house to get absorbed in and might reapply a few times a day. I now only get cold sores maybe once every 5-6 yrs. Also, if my lip itches, I never scratch it b/c that also triggers a cold sore (trauma to the lip) hope that helps.
Hey, Ive had chapped lips before, even some severe cases, but this is different. My lower lip is just chapped, but my upper lip is something different. It burns and tingles and if you look closely you can see tiny tiny bumps. There are also two large orange (slightly orange, hard to notice) splotches on the upper lip. Ive searched online and cant find anything like what I have.
I was due three days ago and also have a cold sore. This is a fairly common occurance for me. I use compeed cold sore patches on mine. It seals the sore to avoid contaminating anyone else. And also heals so much faster. I put the patch on clean dry lips. Then use my lip liner and a slick of lipstick as normal. My friends, family and colleagues often can't even tell I have a sore despite my lip being swollen-it usually feels much bigger than it looks due to the throbbing pain.

My 28 year old daughter recently noted two thin dark lines midway along the upper vermillion border of her upper lip. Each is ~3/4" in length. They look like lip liner, but are not continuous-each is in the areas where a "milk mustache" might touch the lip border.
She has long been on birth control pills, formerly low dose sequentials, and now for some time, YAZ.
Two days ago I spent the entire day snowboarding in cold, windy conditions. The following day my lower lip felt swollen and tingly/itchy. There are no visible signs of a cold sore yet, though I am concerned it could be developing. Is it possible that I caught Herpes from that woman? Is there something else that this could be? If in fact it I do have Herpes, I'm worried about transmitting it to a girlfriend either via kissing or oral sex. Is this a valid concern? Thanks...

I had the exact same thing with both lips swollen and tiny bumps appeared on both lips (not cold sores) and a severe rash will cause tiny bumps to appear on the inside of both lips. For me, it's an allergic reaction to the sun uv rays and I'm also allergic to most sun blocks that has oxybenzone in it. The sun blocks give the exact same rash on my lips or anywhere else applied on my body.
I am a little worried I got HSV 1 since about 53 hours later my upper lip on the left inside was a little swollen and there appeared to be a red bump (when I woke up that Monday morning my top lip was a little puffy and I thought I had just bit my lip while I was sleeping).
Later on in the day on Monday about 8:00pm the right side of my lip (crack where lips splits to top or bottom of your lips) got what it seems to be like a paper cut.
